creative51 comments on Jan 12, 2019:
Its main con is that it still costs too much.
glennlab replies on Jan 12, 2019:
@creative51 Federal subsidies and educational programs would help it get started, right now the processing facilities are non existent. The fiber/ seed market is dominated by China and it will be very hard to compete with them. That leaves CBD which must be better spaced and hand harvested much like pot. There is going to be a learning curve, but i believe it can be done. The commercial process requires large amounts of liquid CO2 and liquid nitrogen, if those facilities are not already they too will have to be built.

@creative51 It will probably take 5 years or more for domestic production to ramp up. The infrastructure is non existent, thhe marketing and distribution system will have to be grown from scratch and the charlatans will descend like buzzards on he unsuspecting. No farmer wants to plant a crop with no processor established, processors need wholesalers and so on. Right now it is going to take deep pockets to make it work, but it will work.

glennlab replies on Jan 12, 2019:
@Closeted markup and greed at some level in the system. I can double my total costs/bottle and still sell cheaper than some wholesale prices. I also know what a 10,000 bottle run costs, so there is no reason for the price to be as high as it is. That was the reason i got into the production side, small quantity, high quality, still low priced. I'll never get rich, but that was not my motivation.
Go figure. Lol

glennlab replies on Jan 12, 2019:
@Closeted I buy wholesale, most of the brands are label runs, that is they contract with a manufacturer to fill bottles and put their label on, much like canned vegetables. Almost all of the CBD isolate crystal available for manufacturing is from Austria, where it is made as a by product of industrial hemp production. Large batch production by its nature achieves sameness and an averagable product. That is overall the product will have the right amount of CBD but individual bottles may not. The brands do not have reps at the production facilities and are simply distributors. I would neither recommend or condemn any particular brand.
I'll try to remember.

Once the Federal firewall on banks comes down, you should see a drop in prices, right now you have to process credit cards through an offshore bank that takes as much as 15% off each charge, no US credit card processor will touch it unless you lie about what product you are selling. Paypal routinely seizes funds and won't release them for 6-12 months. You get stuck in a no man's land. I won't sell on line, I won't do mail orders and I won't take credit cards. This is still a face to face business and you have to depend on who you are doing business with to be honest.

Congress has not removed the authority of the POTUS to preemptively launch nuclear weapons. The only thing that would stop it is a mutiny of the Joint Chiefs of staff to intercede with Strategic Command to preclude the launch of the ICBMs and SLBMs, the heavy bombers could launch but could be recalled. So the fate of the US rests in the hands of 6 professional soldiers.

glennlab replies on Jan 11, 2019:
@RavenCT The problem in the Houston/Dallas markets was the huge number of northern immigrants that did not understand that just because it grew in Michigan, didn't mean it would grow in Texas, so stores would stock when the demand came in even if it was the wrong time of the year. Daffodils and Tulips need to go into the refrigerator 45 days prior to planting in early December Mine are already coming up where I forgot to dump the planter. They won't bloom this year, but they need to fully sprout so I can compost them properly.

Some of the stores in the south are run by out of region buyers, that order stock without regard to the best time to actually plant. I would like to think I am a knowledgeable plant and I have gotten so frustrated when bulbs with a 45 day chilling requirement don't arrive until too late to refrigerate, much less plant on time. They can be used for forcing once, then composting.

@Charity I was sexually liberated at a very early age. From my early teens, we had open and frank discussions. My mother was raised in a sexually repressive family with no discussion of sex except that it was dirty and got pregnant at 15 and was determined that that was not going to happen on her watch. i learned to ask questions of my partner, which lead to some awkward conversations until I learned to finesse the questions. The one thing that was impressed on me was that you should do what you BOTH enjoy no matter what other people think. That nothing was out of bounds as long as you both wanted to do it, if only in the heat of the moment. and that there was nothing dirty about sex. I met many women with your background that found freedom once they left the fold. I hope you find your groove, and that you don't think you are lacking something as long as you enjoy what you are doing.

@KKGator I almost cut and pasted the whole article, but that about sums it up. I'm enough of a political wonk that I subscribe, that and the NYT. I miss the old days when I got complementary exchange subscriptions to newspapers and magazines, but my postman hated me.

As atheist and agnostics what in your opinion is the odds of there being a afterlife ?
glennlab comments on Jan 9, 2019:
If you believe in an afterlife, you need to redefine yourself from pure atheist to something else. As an atheist, when you're dead, you're dead. Any other belief, you are something else.
