I went to my aunt's funeral today.
glennlab comments on Mar 19, 2020:
I went to a funeral last Monday, it was perhaps the worst funeral I have ever attended. It wasn't because his life was cut short at 32, it wasn't because of the pain of his wife that I've known since she was 16, it wasn't because the step daughter had come to see him as a real father figure and he wouldn't be there. It wasn't even because it was in a catholic church. In the 45 minute service, the priest only spoke one sentence about the deceased and everything else could have been pulled from last Sunday's mass. Sorry for your loss.

How does one become an introvert?
glennlab comments on Mar 18, 2020:
When I am home, I am very much an introvert, I prefer my contact to be one on one or not at all. I don't need a lot of human interaction. When I am in a crowd i can be very much the extrovert and work the crowd. I don't have to be fully engaged with other people and can be happy just having another person in the room or house.

glennlab comments on Mar 18, 2020:
We have always had people that predicted the next great disaster long before it happened. 9/11 was part of military planning scenarios since at least 1964 and programs were in place to stop it until 1992. The problem with deterrent programs is that when they work people wonder why you are spending all that money that is not being used. After Hurricane Alica(1983) there was a huge build up of prepositioned disaster relief aid, but with no major storms hitting major cities that money was being wasted, so when Hurricane Katrina(2005) hit New Orleans nothing was available. Until people get a fuck of a lot smarter about paying for preparation versus response, we will continue to be surprised by crisis that were fully predictable.

glennlab comments on Mar 17, 2020:
At this point in my life, I can't think of a food I wanted to try, but haven't. I'm quite a foodie, so if I really have a desire, I will find a way to get the item. Over the years, I have had many more disappointments than new loves. But I am always on the search for new delights.

There really hasn't been much of a change except that all my traveling has been curtailed. The young girl that comes over to help with my housework just messaged me that her husband woke up with a fever, so we are postponing this week indefinitely. I realized how much I valued the interaction with her when I got really disappointed just seeing her message. I miss the traveling more than anything.

glennlab comments on Mar 16, 2020:
I guess I have been ready for way too long. I keep a box of surgical gloves in my car along with hand sanitizer and wet wipes and a roll of tp. bleach is a modified chlorine compound, which dissolves the protein coating on viruses, vinegar is acetic acid which only affects gram negative bacteria. While they can be combined, there is a 20 second wet time for either . that means you it must remain on the surface for 20 seconds before you wipe it off in order to be effective. I use a 30% vinegar for cleaning in the kitchen, but that is for bacteria.

In an effort to retain our solitary sanity let's post some of our most embarrassing moments.
glennlab comments on Mar 16, 2020:
In my younger days, i was somewhat of an athlete, At a large track meet where there was considerable fanfare as the made the introductions for the lane assignments, I left my warmups on until just before getting into the starting blocks. Normally you just slide your hands between the warmups and your shorts and peel them off, then step out of them. I slid my hands in, peeled off my warmups and had just mooned 20,000 people. My shorts came off with my warmups. I took ribbing for that for several years.
It's almost as if....it doesn't do anything...

amusingly enough, apparently something at the Museum of the Bible is not as presented .
glennlab comments on Mar 15, 2020:
The museum relied on the collectors authentication, not all that out of the ordinary for a loaned collection. In order for the researcher to agree to do the test, the museum had to agree to allow the publication of results no matter what they were. There were a multitude of problems, but as long as there are people that will accept the sellers authentication, there will be fakes on the market for anything of value.
