My first winter in Spokane. I had spent the previous winter months in Thailand, and before that had grown up on the Gulf coast. I lived in barracks that were built for WW II, no insulation, poorly built and outside temps below minus 20. I spent the entire winter cold except for when I was inside at work, underground most of the time.

I had that for a period while i was undergoing treatment for Hep C(1999). They really don't do justice to the amount of pain involved. It was quite possibly the most intense pain you could imagine and not die. This is coming from a guy who has been shot and had an explosive go off within inches of my hand. The pain is so intense that you can't move and need someone else to get the meds for you.

I prefer the figure 8 motion.

I'm great at ad lib doing nothing, but I've had plenty of practice. I have had some very high pressure jobs, and even my vacations were a blitz of activity. I got sick and a trip from the bed to the bathroom wore me out, I learned to slow down out of necessity and found that I could be much more alive mentally if I took the cues from my body. It took years to recover (2 years in treatment + getting over the side effects) and I learned that when I needed to work, do it, when I needed to FO, enjoy the down time.

I keep gloves, masks, and sanitizer in the car so I have them and don't forget them at home. I was on a military base yesterday, the difference between the base and the general population was on the order of a magnitude. While masks were being spotily worn in the general population, on base not only was everyone wearing a mask, I only saw one person that was not wearing it correctly.

On the 20th of May is my last day at work. Retirement here I come. Woohooo.
