It's a Texas thing
Moravian comments on Jul 14, 2022:
I have never been to Texas but in my travels around other parts of the USA it is exactly the same. Temperatures are measured in Fahrenheit and buildings are kept to a ridiculously low temperature in summer.
glennlab replies on Jul 14, 2022:
It depends on the time of day you enter the building, they try to cool it way below what will be needed before all the bodies roll in and the temperature goes up. By 2-3 in the afternoon many buildings have become rather warm.

@Redheadedgammy I haven't studied corporate balance sheets in a long time, and the accounting tricks they use to disguise their actual profits. There is no easy way to asses it without looking at each company's 10K. Since I no longer charge for investment advice, I am a little rusty. Reagan declined to repeal the tax in spite of running on that because of the amount of revenue it generated in the 1980s.

Economists have long held a 4-10% net profit is sustainable. But quite simply lets look at the historical averages for that company and anything 5 % above that is excess.

In two years, the convention will be in El Paso. Getting elected to be a delegate is normally not a problem. The only time I had problem was Obama's first election, because we had so many new people involved and I used my pull to get my son a delegate slot and took an alternate slot. I still ended up as a delegate since so many people didn't go. El Paso will be much easier to get a delegate slot since a lot of people won't want to make the trip. https://www.ktsm.com/local/el-paso-news/el-paso-to-host-texas-democratic-convention/

The general sessions and even the caucuses are pretty boring, most of the interesting things that get started are at the receptions and side meetings. These are where the listening tours take place. Operatives simply go from one small group to another hearing what people are talking about and hearing some great ideas and a lot of bad ones, then reporting back to the candidates. The candidates also make their rounds, so we all get a chance for our few minutes of interaction

@BD66 All I'm getting from you is BS, you seem to believe that your way is the only way and use sources that are questionable at best. I spent the early part of my career evaluating investments for clients, determining risks, evaluating ROI,ROC, inherent risk, client objective, value under loss, tax consequences and suitability. This is a complicated process and you don't use resources that have don't have sterling reputations. In order to stay competent, it required extensive reading, understanding of internal and external factors and constant updates. It only took 3 years of the Reagan gambling initiative (tax reform) for me to decide to leave that field. I do not enjoy it anymore and have been retired from my final career for 6 years. You see things in black and white, while I tend to see things in technicolor, there are no easy answers to complex problems, and finances. If you want to write numbers in your posts, use financial shorthand ie 39 T, 50B, 30M rather than posting a 39Q by mistake. WIKI is not a reference, use it as a general map to get to where you want to go. Economics is a science like psychology is a science. It is never settled, it generally takes 40-50 years to determine if the premise is correct, then you must determine whether to toss it or modify it. Unlike other areas of science, economist disagree on almost everything, there are at least 4 sides to every issue, so if you think you have the answers write a book. So far every book and theory in economics has proven at least partially false and most are partially true. If you want a constructive conversation stick to a single topic, stay on topic and bring facts. We will probably disagree, we may agree

“Did not adhere to our guidelines”. So a fucking newspaper can tell a person how they should write an obituary eh? What a travesty that a person cannot tell their truth about a lousy human being! They should look into their own selfishness on this!
glennlab replies on Jul 9, 2022:
@MyTVC15 That depends on whether it was a paid obit or not, paid obits they have very limited editorial control over. Paid obits are normally only checked for length, since that is the billing information, once it goes to print, that genie has escaped the bottle. We once had to replace a local edition to correct a mistake, but the mistake was still out there. A lot depends on their terms of service. Few small newspapers employ enough staff to ensure that they comply with copyright law, much less to edit reader/advertiser submissions.
Of course that means I have to play.

glennlab replies on Jul 6, 2022:
@LucyLoohoo A little background, I was a runner. I was serving in the Air Force (also on the USAF track team) I was stationed in Spokane Wa.One of my jobs was teaching how to avoid freezing injuries. The coach at Spokane falls CC offered me a scholarship to run track for SFCC and I worked out a work schedule so that I could take classes, run track and do my Air Force job. We had both an indoor and outdoor season so that meant running fall winter and spring. I always wore as few clothes as I could get away with depending on the weather. Because of Spokane's location in a long valley and up against the western slope of the Rockies, fronts could blow through with 60-80 mph winds dropping temperatures radically'. On the day in question, I was wearing a nylon mesh tank top jersey, when I left the field house it was in the 60s, I went out to do road work on the hills around SFCC, when I was about 4 miles out a front started to blow through. As I turned around to go back rather than finishing my run, it started snowing, I was running directly into the snow so it was plastering to my front side. As my nipples got erect, the snow packed around them. By the time I got back to the fieldhouse my nipples had frozen. I knew that I needed to thaw them at 103 to 105 in a water bath. I used the whirlpool in the trainers room to thaw. Once I got blood flow back, I realized how bad the burns were. They completely peeled and developed large blisters. It took about two weeks to heal, but now sometimes when I get direct cold on them, it feels like they are being pinched and burned. Really glad I have my hot tub so that I can get them warmed back up quickly. questions?
Knock it off you guys, it's hurricane season right now ya know.

glennlab replies on Jul 6, 2022:
@Redheadedgammy Palm oil has a very strong flavor, but it gives the popcorn the movie theater yellow and was what they used for years. It has a melting point above 90 degrees, so if you get some get it in a wide mouth jar not the bottles. You can get eco friendly if you search. They had what looked like butter sticks that was premixed cocoa butter, palm oil and coconut oil that gave that distinctive smell when you walked in.

glennlab replies on Jul 6, 2022:
@Redheadedgammy very slight chocolatey taste, the last batch of cocoa butter I got was deodorized, so it doesn't have that rich smell. Sometimes I'll add about a teaspoon of palm oil to give it that old movie theater look and smell.

Yellowstone is is high, that the females only spend a few months in Yellowstone, they head out of the park in Sept/Oct then return in June/July.The bulls form herds that stay in the park for the most part. They can be very docile, but can attack with no notice. I would never assume that because they are fenced in that they won't attack if you're in with them. The ranchers that raise them have a very healthy respect for their tempers and will not allow people to even drive across their ranches.
