glennlab replies on Jan 6, 2021:
@Freedompath He has the use of the aircraft until noon on 1/20, after that the aircraft commander must have new orders from the new president, theoretically Biden could order him to turn around and return without ever dropping Trump off. I believe that is the reason trump planned to arrive 1/19.
More proof that numbers don't lie, they just don't tell the whole story.

I have watched with interest as the attitudes have changed as the deaths take more of my friends and relatives. The deniers are screaming that it is real and we need to do something. Once it became clear to me that it was much worse than anything we had seen in my lifetime I believed we should be willing to make whatever sacrifices were necessary.

It is easy to divide and create new plants, It will have nodules on the roots where it stores food for the dormant season. Dig a full clump, separate by gently pulling apart, trying to keep some nodules on each clump. I have separated a single large clump into as many as 20 smaller clumps. Best to do at the end of winter, since it sprouts in early spring and that single growth is all that it does all year. Very hardy and perinial, I have had it under my magnolia tree in full shade for 35 years. I have no idea of the mother plants age.

glennlab replies on Dec 24, 2020:
I belive they came out of the 60s as part of the renewed interest in social welfare. Prior to the new deal, there were no crop supports or crop insurance. The market stability of the 40s and 50s and the lack of WW II distruction in the US meant that US farmers were out producing the needs of the US. Agriculure represented the largest sector of the economy and to keep it running the USDA stepped in to act as a purchaser of last resort. When its warehouses were full and farmers were dumping 1000s of gallons of milk perday down the drain because it cost more to process it than the wholesale price. THe program first supplied institutions, but that barely dented the supplies, that is when they went whole hog and started shipping directly to communities that made the last mile deliveries. They either went to an existing local gov't facility or rented space with people picking up their allotment with a USDA coupon. short answer no.
Based on the responses I got, I should have posted this here.

Originally the program was started to make civil defense food along the same lines as the military K rations. No bells, no whistles, no regionalizations. Just made to last years and still be edible. Though I can say that even new, that was a stretch.
I made brownies for my coworkers. Can't imagine why no one is eating them.....

@Killtheskyfairy My grandmother was a Calvinist Baptist and believed that unless she saw blood, you had not been punished sufficently. One reason I never spanked my son. Yhe other was he never did anything that would warrant it.

@Beowulfsfriend The former presidents' SS protection is determined each year in the budget package as well as their pensions. It is normally proforma legislation in the gov't spending bill simply cut and pasted from the previous year, but there have been major changes in the past.

My grandmother made us eat the stuff for a week, so that we would know how good we had it. A week was more than enough. We had one of the larger warehouses in town and were on main street, so our store was the distibution point for a lot of the local aid.

@FrayedBear This is what they were giving to Americans, it was a bail out to the farm industry, the government bought all that they could not sell on the open market, then when the markets did not magicly reopen, rather than allow people to recieve money and chose for themselves, they got the excess produce.

They've been served along with Rudy and that weird woman lawyer with a notice to not destroy evidence because a lawsuit is pending. The retractions may be used as well as all the working papers leading to its posting,

@LucyLoohoo Not really, but even Nixon feared the reaction of the judicary over destroying evidence.

@Larimar Last christmas I got myself an electric smoker, I've got it set low enough that it should be ready for lunch tomorrow. I injected it with beef broth and have a catch pan for the drippings. I was amazed at how little wood the electric one takes,I had bought 20 pounds of 2 different types, so my son will inherit it.
