You need to understand what your sources are saying . Basic journalism. I dealt with several of the publishing groups of the day, Tooley, Hartmant, Hearst, time-life, NYT in my everyday work. We owned a news service that send out daily news consolidations. We very seldom hired new reporters unless someone died, retired or decided to stay home with the baby. We paid the reporters to come in for their interviews if we were interested and typically had them back at least twice. I was a member of the Memphis Regional Postal customer council along with other major publishers as well as the National Postal Customer council where we would spend two days each quarter woerking on the problems of publishers and USPS. We normally stayed at the same hotels and cussed and discussed our respective owning agencies. While you may have read about publishers, I was dealing with publishers and owners. If you can't tell whether the owner of a news group is conservative, liberal or middle of the road by reading their publications, then you lack the investigative qualities that make a good journalist.

One reason I started doing my biweekly shopping on base, EVERYBODY is masked. I know that that is not an option for many, but it is for me. Coming back from my last shopping trip, I decided to stop at Sams, 3/4 of the shoppers had no protection, I just left. DFW area.
glennlab replies on May 25, 2020:
@MissKathleen You can make a quick mask by accorian folding a shop towel (the blue towels that come on a roll like paper towels) stapling the ends with either elastic or ribbon, then fit it just like a regular mask..

I wonder how much of that half million dollar GoFundMe she'll share with those poor stylists she says she's concerned for? She worked the system like a pro. It's despicable.
glennlab replies on May 25, 2020:
@Lauren She got regal treatment at Dallas county, she was in a single cell so she had no contact with general population. She would have crapped her pants if they put her in one of the women's tanks with 50 other people.
Not to be an alarmist .

Considering that she had to falsify 2- 941,(federal witholding and social secuirty tax return) a 940 (federal unemployment return) and a W-3( consolidation return for W-2s for your employees) I think we already know her level of fair play. she has stated that she had no employees, so that was bank fraud.

Additionally, she claims there was a pet grooming business next to her salon that was labeled essential yet her business was...

She wanted the rent from the stylist, the ones that were interviewed by the Dallas Morning News were in no hurry to go back. They wqere renters, not contractors or employees, plus she got her $18000 PPP loan under false pretenses since she no employees.

Memorial Day, and war is always hell.
glennlab comments on May 25, 2020:
The cost of war is paid for in the lives of our youth, and shared with their families. We have reduced the number of deaths, but not the number of casualties. We are just beginning to understand the very real trauma of the survivors. Sorry for your loss.
glennlab replies on May 25, 2020:
@tinkercreek My father died when he was 21. I never realized how hard it was on my grandparents until my grandfather died. We had to take my grandmother to my father's grave where she cried for a good half hour, before we could do my granfather's graveside service. Losing a child has to be the worst pain that a parent can expirience. One that I hope we can limit as much as possible.
Anyone else in this situation? Asking for a friend.

@WonderWartHog99 I could teach a class on the economics of the newspaper industry. to your points: 1. Classified ads have always been the mumber 1 , 2 or 3 most read section of the news paper. 2. The sbuscription price has never covered much more the cost of newsprint and ink, not even the labor to print and deliver it. 3. It was the conservative owners that saddled the newspapers with debts that they could not support. 4. It was the conservative owners that would not invest in the equipment (in the 1990s forward)_to take advantage of the internet for those ad dollars. 5. This is far too complicated an issue to address in a few messages.

@Lightupmylife I have used cayenne pepper in the past, it requires reapplication after rain though. I buy the 16 oz size at Sam's. Since they sniff as they walk, it irratates their nose and eyes, but won't do any permanent damage. It will slow them down, but they roam large areas, so it may take a while for everyone to get the message.

@LucyLoohoo, @TheDoubter Our editor at The United Methodist Reporter and The National Christian Reporter required that staff answer every letter that we received. He started that policy when our circulation was 40,000 and continued it when we were at nearly half a million/week. The administrative assistants would screen the letter and forward them to the person with the best expertise in the area of concern. You were expected to respond in less than a week. Sometimes it developed into some interesting correspondence back and forth.

@LucyLoohoo I sat on an editorial board for 10 years, the writers and editors were definitely liberal, but I was always impressed with their demands that the news be fact checked, true and balanced. I often marveled that the conservative newspapers in the two paper markets almost always were more profitable. I hated reading and answering letter to the editor since you had to answer it without being condesending or mean.
