Morality! Where does it come from ?
godef comments on Jul 29, 2018:
Good question. And I think it's more simply grounded that most people realize. In essence, it's the intellectualism required to understand that the best path for you to reach your highest potential is through understanding and cooperation with our fellow citizens, leading to the elimination of personal conflict that works against this. Religions have co-opted/corrupted this to mean pretty much the same thing, but only in context to their beliefs.

I am curious of people's thoughts of science here. Are you confident in science?
godef comments on Jul 29, 2018:
Science is science. This is absolute. If something less than a valid wants to pose as a science, well, it isn't a science. Certainly, there are some sciences we understand better than others, but remember that science is a process of coming to better understand where we are coming up short.

Did anyone else go through the stages of Atheism?
godef comments on Jul 25, 2018:
Nope. I did of a burst of religiosity from spending the 9th grade in a Catholic school, but I merely opened my mind and began considering there was no God. If anything, I was excited to be figuring it out once and for all.

Does anyone understand Doppelgangers?
godef comments on Jul 19, 2018:
It's metaphorical. In an original Star Trek episode, Kirk is split into two, his good side and his bad, which in reality, isn't prone to happen. The conflict is when the two sides meet and how the conflict is resolved, which can be typically messy. The isn't necessarily an intent to resolve the differences, rather, it's just an examination of where it can go.
Not to offend Americans but i don't like it when they call football Soccer and their own NFL real ...
godef comments on Jul 19, 2018:
American football evolved from "world" football by way of rugby, and a hundred and more years ago, the latter had a variety of varying rules, that may or may not have included rules for running with the ball, depending on the organizations that played it; it was probably at least a bit different back then than it is now. So whether its Association rules, where the name soccer comes from, American rules, Canadien rules, Australian rule, they all have a right to the use of the name. I'll grant the rugby people did have the good sense to adopt a distinct nsme, or it would also still be called football.

Atheism is not "against" the existence of gods, we simply just don't believe they exist; I think your notion of "against" just makes things complicated. To make an analogy, consider someone who doesn't care about baseball, but is not against it; don't read anymore into it.

Why is Atheism still so misunderstood in 2018?
godef comments on Jul 2, 2018:
So long as we are a minority, the word "atheism" is useful merely to label and distinguish us from the religious. So far as having to explain something countless times, you will never get away from this so long as there are propagandists out there driving their agenda.
