@Sticks48 Because they aren’t real humans. Some people like me with OCD have trouble with being touched. By people. This is similar to most costumes people wear for dressing up today. Heck, I've dressed up similarly as well for a previous Halloween. I'm sure some people would be offended by some costuming choices for whatever reason. Sexy nun costumes? I'm sure that would ruffle some feather.

@Booklover Mittens was feral. Her feral mom we called Frosty because it was a cold frosty day when we first saw her. Then I found a kitten in the dog house dying of cold, so we took him in. I called him Popsicle. Then we found Frosty had two other kittens and we called them Mittens and Muffs. We managed to trap the kittens but never got the mom; she disappeared. Popsicle and Muffs were adopted by friends. No one was interested in the mostly black cat, so we kept Mittens.

@TheAstroChuck I live about 45 min east of the city in rural Beaver County. I lived in the city about 8 years ago. It just got too crowded over the years so I moved out here where I have almost 20 acres. I had always been more of a loner even in the city. I stayed home mostly or I go places alone. I do have a few friends I might go out with a couple of times a month. I danced more as well back then. After moving out here I’ve become more of a recluse. I have no close neighbours. I only go out when it’s needed mostly for groceries and mail (no mail delivery to my place). I might go to a few events in the city but events in town are too hick for my tastes. I’ve met quite a few people around here and they are nice enough but not people I would hang out with. I still see my friends from the city but since it’s a bit of a drive we rarely get together anymore. My book club seems to be defunct at the moment. There are only 4 members in the book club so it’s a pretty cozy little gathering. All that said, I’m actually good with people. Meaning I have good people skills. Most would say I’m very friendly and personable. I think they would be surprised if you tell them I’m a recluse or a loner.

@ArdentAtheist I have been vegan long enough to have gone through all the good and bad about the lifestyle. I went vegetarian then vegan for the animals and the environment so I didn't know much about nutrition and health when I started out. I don't claim to know everything but feel free to ask me if you have questions. Be mindful though that B12 supplements come in different dosages. Most pharmacies carry only the very low doses like 250-500 mcg. Amazon carries I believe up to 5000 mcg. Generally vegans would take about 2000 mcg per week, but the amount is best determined by a doctor or pharmacist. Too much of any vitamins can be dangerous. I would suggest a lower dosage first until you can talk to a doctor and have your bloodwork done.

graceylou replies on Oct 13, 2018:
Hahaha. I named Colin and Morgan with highbrow names. The other cat from the same colony was fostered by someone else but he ended up with me. The lady named him Rupert. The three names kinda go together well. Breeze came to us on a particularly windy day. She was pregnant and had her kittens about 4-5 days later. I named them Moose, Tiger, Chipmunk, and Mouse. I tend to name littermates with a theme so I remember which litter they came from. They all got adopted but Tiger came back to us because the adopter turned out to be an ass. I named Juliette after a character from the TV show Grimm, and the kittens she came with also were named after characters in the show. They are Nicky, Monroe, Griffin, and Renard. Nicky and Renard never got adopted so they live with me. Turtle got her name from being a Torbie (Tortie/tabby mix). She was pregnant when I trapped her, and she had 5 babies I named after cities: Sydney, Salem, London, Paris, and Phoenix. I kept Sydney and Salem because of their health issues. I lost Sydney last year at age 4. Salem is doing well, with his health issue under control.

That is so great that you have adopted those cats. There is one feral cat at the Feline Sanctuary were I volunteer that will hiss and growl if you get close to her. And if you get within her reach "look out!"
graceylou replies on Oct 13, 2018:
Yeah, originally I just planned on sort of fostering them but I realize nobody would want them as house cats. Adult ferals are very difficult to socialize. Most people want cuddly kitties to pet and snuggle with. These guys may rip your face off if you try to hug them. I've invested so much money out of pocket to feed, vet, and fix these guys I'm not risking letting them live outside with predators and traffic.

They've been with me 5-6 years now. They're used to all the routines. They have this room, which is THEIR room, and during the day they also get my bedroom until I go to bed. If I let them out in gen pop with my other critters, they would be scared and hide all day long. In these rooms, they can hang out and relax. They feel safe. I'm impressed that they all get along so well having come from different places. They've become their own colony.
Well.

@PolyWolf I started with Pimsleur, which I liked but it's not an app. It's mostly aural/oral for conversational purposes. I'm now playing around with Mondly. I don't know, I just found it randomly and decided to try it out. But I think I want to continue with Pimsleur later because I really liked it. The Pimsleur is Egyptian Arabic though, which is more useful for me.

Except for Turtle, everyone else came from other properties. Rupert, Colin, and Morgan came from one colony and they got to me from sort of a rescue effort. Juliette and Breeze are sisters and they came from a friend’s property. Turtle is the only one that I trapped on my property myself. She was pregnant and I didn’t want a colony of ferals on my property. All the girls came to me either pregnant or with kittens. They are all fixed now (the boys too). Some of the kittens live here but others have been adopted out.

graceylou replies on Oct 13, 2018:
They have lived here 5-6 years now so this is home to them. The black and white cat, Morgan, is the most people friendly and can be petted just not picked up. Rupert, the grey tabby, after all these years now would let me pet him for a bit. He was originally one of the most fearful. Turtle and Colin sometimes would let you pet them. Juliette and Breeze will not let you touch them. But otherwise they are calm and relaxed and no one wants to run away or escape.
Still hilarious.

That's interesting. Were they strays? Stray dogs are not a major issue around here. But farmers let their dogs roam free. Occasionally, some would pass by my place or they get on the roads just hanging out so we all have to be careful driving rural roads. All my dogs are indoors though I live on farmland, and they have a fenced area to go out to. No way would I let them roam free and chance having them hurt by people or wild animals or getting hit by a car on the highway. Most people around here let their cats and dogs roam free but when they run into the highways and get hit, the owners get mad at motorists for not being careful enough.

They won't walk him. It's all farms out here and he's a farm dog. He stays outside on a chain. He used to be free roaming but he went to another farm and killed their chickens, so now he's chained up. I presume it's a long chain that allows him a bit of movement around his farm.

@LetzGetReal Considering I live with 56 pets, 53 of which live in my house (only 3 equines live outdoors but have shelters), I do KEEP a lot of the animals I take in. I’ve taken in or rescued others but I found adoptive home for them. Some just are not adoptable and have nowhere else to go. And some have been too far gone to save, like a coyote that was shot in the leg and left to die on my property.
