I lost my little girl (my 15 year old chihuahua) on Monday.

Sorry for your loss. You gave your best care and love. She had a wonderful and loving long life with you. Take your time to grief. And take care of yourself.

I find that there are so many misconceptions out there about what polyamory is.
graceylou comments on Jun 23, 2018:
As much as I would like to just shrug it off, I feel that if we don't correct them they will never have the correct information and will keep living with incorrect perception of others. May be I shouldn't care. But for myself, I value having the correct or accurate information about subjects I talk about. Some people pull thoughts and ideas out of the air and that's good enough.
I will never understand people who are 'polyamorous' or 'ethically non-monogamous'.
graceylou comments on Jun 23, 2018:
Your understanding of polyamory is very much inaccurate. So you are right; you will never understand people who are poly. And, where does it say that we have to be monogamous, exactly? Whether people want to follow the path of polyamory or monogamy, it's none of my business.
If you're interested in watching nature there's nothing better than the BBC series planet Earth.
graceylou comments on Jun 22, 2018:
I own the series. And also The Blue Planet.
My buck moth (Hemileuca maia) caterpillars are halfway grown.
graceylou comments on Jun 22, 2018:
Pretty babies. I have a phobia of moths and butterflies, but no problem with caterpillars.
You get to a age or point where you just don't seem to fit in with people you've known a long time ...
graceylou comments on Jun 22, 2018:
I have never fit in with my family/relatives so that isn't anything new. I recently found some childhood friends halfway around the world on FB. I went to a Christian private school as a young child and these friends were my classmates. After awhile, I had to unfriend most of them because all they talk about is god and religion, and they criticize me on everything that went against their beliefs. I'm a bit more distant these days from my friends since I became vegan. With social media, I can still keep up to date on them yet maintain a little distance. It's the same with family. Physical distance helps to maintain a decent relationship with them at least for me. Occasional face to face is fine and I can leave and have my own space most of the time.
A lot of posts on this site have lamented that they haven't met anyone here yet.
graceylou comments on Jun 22, 2018:
Congrats!! A toast to WEIRDNESS!!! I've "met" some people, but alas I am only here for community. I do wish them the best.

What do you think about sharks?
graceylou comments on Jun 22, 2018:
I love sharks. Have swam with sharks. There are so many species with so many different characteristics and behaviour. We need to respect them and understand them. We also need to protect them. Many are caught as bycatch in the fishing industry. Many are inhumanely mutilated for their fins. Humans kill many many more sharks per day than sharks kill people in a year. I support shark conservation. I have a tattoo of hammerhead sharks on my right arm.
I had a "First" happen in my life today.

graceylou comments on Jun 22, 2018:
I’m already a vegan for 8 years. I don’t necessarily eat low fat or low anything. I eat a balanced plant-based diet. I’m 47 and healthier than ever. I have more energy and endurance than twenty something friends. And I enjoy the heck out of what I’m eating. That said, I’m not vegan for my health.
Koko the gorilla passed away today.

On this site, I was hoping to make friends with a few attractive, educated, freethinking vegetarians...
graceylou comments on Jun 21, 2018:
If you check out the Groups, there is a Vegan/Vegetarian group where you might find some friends with the same interests. I'm vegan, and a dancer (among other things). I would like to say I'm educated, and I'm definitely a whole lot of nutty. Always welcome new friends.
How accurate is this?
graceylou comments on Jun 21, 2018:
I love kittens. Much more than I do puppies, though I’m more of a dog person. My friends would know when I had foster baby kittens because my hands, arms, and legs would have little scratches all over.

I just secured the username Devil. Not sure if I love it or hate it. 🤷‍♂️
graceylou comments on Jun 19, 2018:
You can wear the name for awhile and see where it takes you. Really, it's just a name, like any name. If you're here for dating, I don't know if the name would work for you or against you. You can change it may be to something like HandsomeDevil or LuckyDevil or similar.
Really just a bit peeved right now.
graceylou comments on Jun 19, 2018:
I totally understand that since I'm also vegan. The killing/death of animals wouldn't be an acceptable subject of a joke/humour for me especially if they know you are vegan. May be let them know you gently how you feel but that you also appreciate them as coworkers. You can always donate the gift card to charity or the food bank (at least here there are places you can donate gift cards to help others).

graceylou comments on Jun 17, 2018:
Not scared of any of them. I have dogs, snakes, and geckos as pets. I don't think there are cockroaches here. Rats are not legal to own as pets in my province but there are wild rats here and there. Some people do haunt my life but they are rather irrelevant.
Imagine being a bride in India and you must kiss this on the head! And not get bit! Some messed up ...
graceylou comments on Jun 17, 2018:
I would kiss it. I love snakes. I don't want to be a bride in India or religious but I would kiss a cobra. If you know how snakes behave there is a way to do this without getting bitten. However, this practice is likely to be more stressful for the snake than for the people. Poor snake.

graceylou comments on Jun 17, 2018:
I guess it really depends on what part of Canada. We are a big country with diverse people. For the most part we are pretty laid back. The economy had taken a hit the last few years but we are bouncing back. If we know more about what you like and what you’re looking for we might be able to direct you to cities or areas that might suit you best. I mean the hustle and bustle of Toronto is nothing likes the backwoods of Yukon. I’m not sure an all inclusive summary of Canada is really possible or accurate.
So, is this like a thing?
graceylou comments on Jun 16, 2018:
YEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Thanks everyone. This was fun. You all are so hilarious and sweet. I’m exhausted now.

What is the wildest thing that you have ever done ?
graceylou comments on Jun 16, 2018:

Yeah, made it yo level 6! Woohoo! I don't even know what that means. Lol
graceylou comments on Jun 15, 2018:
Yay!! Congrats. You get a pat on the back from other members who also don't know what that really means. I'm getting close to level 7 now. Apparently there's a t-shirt when you get to level 8.
What's your superpower?
graceylou comments on Jun 15, 2018:
I take elements from diverse things and combine them into creations that “come alive”. Yes, sort of like Dr. Frankenstein. Oh, and I can make people fall for me...apparently.
Do you like to dance ?

Do you think atheists are more likely to be vegan?

I’m bored waiting for my flight at the airport.
graceylou comments on Jun 12, 2018:
I do have lots of books on my iPad (iBooks, kindle, and kobo apps) but I can’t read with all the noise. I browse stores but can’t buy anything because I only packed a carry on and had no space for anything else. I don’t drink and there are few options for me to eat at the airport. I usually browse the bookstores even if I don’t buy anything. I packed my own snacks that I can actually eat. After the bookstores it’s pretty much just getting online.
What breed of dog do you feel most like?
graceylou comments on Jun 11, 2018:
A standard poodle. Prissy and smart. Kinda aloof and anti-social unless I like you, then you’re my best friend.
When did you last sing to yourself ?
graceylou comments on Jun 11, 2018:
Always.
Do you body shame yourself ? Why would you do that ?
graceylou comments on Jun 11, 2018:
I do. I grew up being told I’m too fat, I’m ugly. There’s always something wrong to be pointed out. I’ve learned to hate parts of myself. I’m doing much better now although now and again I would have a breakdown and I can’t even get out and be in public. I will be visiting my parents for the next few days. I worry my mother would pick something on my person to say something negative about. For me it’s not just “shame”; I’m actually terrified people would notice my imperfect parts and laugh at me.
Maybe my favorite song sung with Bryan Adams. Sung with Tina Turner. [youtu.be] What a duo!

His death comes about 50 years too late, IMO.
graceylou comments on Jun 8, 2018:
As much as I hate wishing death on anyone or anything, I’ve never been a fan of his shows and other celebrity chefs’ for reasons like these. I can’t watch people cooking and eating random creatures in the cruelest unnecessary ways. Saw an article on someone who “milks” starfish for a fluid to be used in cosmetics. Ummmm, why!?!?!?

Another super quick meal idea :-) lots of protein in this one!
graceylou comments on Jun 7, 2018:
That looks so yummy. Would be satisfying on a hot day. But it has tomatoes so I will have to sit on the sidelines again and cry while everyone else get to enjoy it (as I would with any yummy recipes with bananas as well).
Give me your best quote people.
graceylou comments on Jun 7, 2018:
This might sound strange, but this is the best quote I've heard. It's from a Sherlock Holmes movie called The Case of the Whitechapel Vampire. Are you a friend of the Vampires? The bats? Is there any other kind?
What’s your creative outlet?
graceylou comments on Jun 7, 2018:
Dance, choreography. Soon I will get my "call to performers" for the festival in September. I've been so busy with other things I'm contemplating not participating this year though I've performed every year since the first year of the festival 8 years ago. But, since it is my only creative outlet these days, I may have to do it to maintain my sanity.

graceylou comments on Jun 5, 2018:
I love that so many of us have black cats. I think they are just gorgeous. Not all black cats are panthers though. Some may be black lions. Like Cleo here, my former foster cat that was adopted by a friend of a friend.
Have you ever heard/read something that had a huge impact on you and the way you think?
graceylou comments on Jun 5, 2018:
When I was younger I got into books by George Sand, the French female novelist who dressed in men’s clothing and used a male nom de plume. She was smart, strong, influential. She fought for the poor and for women’s rights when women were seen as property. She ran in bohemian circles and had many lovers even until her death in her 70s. Her novels weren’t particularly good in my opinion but they feature strong heroic female characters who did what most other novels of the time would portray with male characters. I actually dressed in my Dad’s hand me downs for some time. My parents still have our family pic with my Dad, my brothers, and I all wearing men’s suits, just my Mom in a dress. Being an only girl with two brothers I was always treated differently and I hated that. I think the novels encouraged me to think that I can do just as well or even better.
Why do you think people are so scared to put up photos on this site or limit it to only one or two?
graceylou comments on Jun 5, 2018:
A lot of people are very guarded when it comes to participating online, not just at this site. Me, I don't really have a lot of hangups. I stay safe but I won't restrict myself too much.
Guys, please reconsider using plastic bags while shopping.
graceylou comments on Jun 5, 2018:
I absolutely hate plastic bags. When I lived in the city the majority of shoppers brought their own reusable bags (a lot of stores charge extra for plastic bags). Now living here in the country, 99.99% don't use reusable bags even though they are available for purchase for 99 cents. The clerks are just so used to filling plastic bags that even if I gave them my bags they might mindlessly start filling the plastic bags and I had to remind them that I brought my own bags. I was so excited one day to see one other person with her reusable bags.
My kitty clock I made the other day, could not get a good picture of it, the glare is bad.

Name up to four kinds of outdoor camping vacations you've either taken or would like to take.
graceylou comments on Jun 5, 2018:
Camping for me was work when I did archaeological excavations. 6-8 weeks in some remote place living in a tent and bathing in the creeks. No civilization. So camping for vacation wasn’t always my choice. However I did enjoy camping with the dogs in Kananaskis country in the foothills of the Rockies not too far from Banff. We stayed in their teepee tent one time and then after that just stayed in our own tent. I would love to do horse trail riding with camping. We liked to camp with the dogs so we couldn’t do this before.

Hi Everyone! Would like to get opinions on using vegan protein supplements.
graceylou comments on Jun 4, 2018:
Most people seem to recommend the Vega brand. It’s not what I use. I’m not into body building either. If you’re on Facebook, there are vegan groups for athletes and body builders you can join. They would have a better idea.

Do you have noise pollution around you?
graceylou comments on Jun 4, 2018:
I live across the highway from the train tracks. After 8 years I’ve pretty much tuned the trains’ noise out. But there are always the occasional asses who would blow the train horns excessively beyond the requirements at 3 am just because they can.
