The sign at one of the churches in town says “God loves you whether you like it or not”.
ABSykes comments on Jul 16, 2018:
I get seriously pissed at a business coach of mine with crap like that "It's okay if you don't believe in god, he still believes in you." Even worse though is we'll have big training events and they get up and boast about how great the USA is and how we enjoy the freedoms of speech and religion "so ...

I feel sorry for you. My Dad is like that when he wants to talk about god to me. Like I’m the unfortunate human who’s lost but it’s ok god won’t abandon me. Bleah.

Marionville comments on Jul 16, 2018:
I think it is pretty benign. I don’t object as it is simply meaningless to me. How can something nonexistent do anything, only a person you know can love you so it’s plainly nonsensical. It is harmless compared to signs of hate that racists and nazis daub on the doors and walls of Synagogues...
graceylou replies on Jul 16, 2018:
Usually their signs are pretty harmless but this one just seems unsettling to me. Just made me cringe.

graceylou comments on Jul 16, 2018:
I don't actually really care what hairstyle they choose. But I do have a thing for shaved/bald heads. Still, hairstyle isn't all that important to me.
graceylou replies on Jul 16, 2018:
@Sticks48 Well, I do like shaved/bald heads, facial hair, and older men. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone.

It's telling that they don't see this as ironic or weird. Imagine a man approaching you and saying, "I love you whether you like it or not". And yet somehow this becomes okay when god is the stalker!

Are you allergic to tree nuts? If not may be try nut butters like almond butter or cashew butter (and treats made with these). Obviously not exactly peanuty tasting but somewhat similar. There are nut free and allergy safe candies out there too that are quite delicious.

This destroyed our family. I feel for you.
graceylou replies on Jul 14, 2018:
@Hihi I think my brothers and I can probably work something out, just the three of us, with close consultation with my parents. But my sister in law is being fanatical in rescuing my parents from us for some reason. It's gotten insanely complicated when it shouldn't be. Now my older brother is suspicious of my younger brother (because of his wife), and hearing other sides, I've become suspicious as well. I think my Dad has also been saying untrue things to other people, not because his mind isn't right but because he interprets things his own way. So I'm thinking that I can no longer take his word for anything (he recently accused me of something I did not do, though unrelated to this matter).

We are trying to have a siblings only conversation but my older brother is suspicious that anything he and I say can be misinterpreted and used against us. What I want is simple. I want my parents to choose what they want for their care. I don't care if they are not of the most sound mind and if it's not the best care for them. I completely understand. I deal with it all my life. When I was 32 I had to argue with some random person who wouldn’t believe I was not just 18. Although it seems like a good thing, looking much younger gets you treated unpleasantly sometimes. I had trouble getting taken seriously in my later 20s and my thirties, like I seemed too young to take on a management position or to lead a research project. I also dress the way I look because if I “dress my age” people ask me all the time why I’m “dressed up”. It’s very annoying.

I think just “you look young for your age” is more acceptable although in a professional situation it’s probably best not to say anything unless it affects the professional transaction. “You look good for your age” just doesn’t sit well. I’ve seen too many times kids going to the reptile expo or pet store and get their parents to buy a cute tiny baby snake and they have no clue about any care requirements. They are just impulse buys that almost inevitably end up dying. Many of my snakes (including Dash) are rehomes because people couldn’t or wouldn’t take care of them anymore. They have no idea snakes are a 15-20 year commitment. I try to discourage these kids from getting a snake unless they and their families are committed to its proper long term care.

I work with a new girl who would cry if you try to correct her on mistakes even in the kindest way possible. We just don't really know what to do. I wrote a very neutral note about something that we all need to make sure to be done correctly and addressed it to all staff, and I was told by the manager that I made this girl cry because she felt attacked by my note. Really, I tried to make it as neutral as possible and it can still be taken in a hard way by someone.

@SKH78 Yes, I've seen several little boys hitting adults or other kids and not get stopped or reprimanded for doing it. My adopted male cousin, as a child, had a macaw as a family pet. My brothers and I were horrified when he hit the bird several times during our visit at their house. We tried to get him to stop but we got reprimanded for yelling at him. It's their family pet and the monster of a toddler could do what he wanted. We did not want to play with him or be around him because he was out of control. He became juvenile delinquent, joined gangs, and now is an adult who cannot hold a job and keep relationships. Not to mention, he is probably involved in delinquent/criminal activities. This child at the airport was probably not more than 2 years old. He was not just hitting; he was beating her mom in the head pretty hard (surprising for such a small child to have that much force). If I were his mother, he would have been dealt more sternly (though I would not use physical punishment). He would know why it's not appropriate and if he were having an episode of some kind due to a disability I would remind him how to control it (I did study to become an educational assistant once). That said, this was a public space where people were watching and the mother might have been in a rush, so she just wanted to get done as fast as possible changing his diaper.

They can get pretty rambunctious yes but they are still better behaved than most dogs that come to my work. I get scratched, bruised, even bitten, and some dogs do not stop barking. Some are shy to the extreme and some have fear aggression. My old Max and my little one Belle were both supposed to be "the only pet" . Nobody wanted to adopt them because they had the "must be an only pet* designation. I adopted them and trained them to get along with my other dogs and my cats.

@SkotlandSkye This sort of thing happened when a local farm animal sanctuary had a blind goat go missing, claimed to have been stolen. The story was shared all over Facebook and other social media, even made it to TV news. Everyone was outraged at the thief who stole this poor blind goat. The farm sanctuary got way way more likes on their FB, their fundraiser dinner sold out when before they hardly sold any tickets. One day, the goat was supposedly returned by this unknown evil thief who liked stealing blind goats I guess. Everyone was sooooooo happy. It was massive news. I'm sure these same people would eat goat meat at restaurants without giving it a second thought. But oh no please don't hurt this poor blind goat. AAARRRGGGHHHH. As for the farm sanctuary, I no longer support them. They claim it wasn't a publicity stunt to get more funds. They are a vegan organization and the dinner was a vegan dinner, but nowhere during this situation did they promote veganism and compassion for ALL farm animals. They could have used the opportunity to educate the public but they simply used this unfortunate incident to get more donations. I know they need money to run but they could have done much more. Personally I think the goat just wandered off and came back on her own; there was absolutely no evidence of theft.

@Arshi Since we are in Canada, the processes might be a little different. With socialized health care, while we have most services covered by the government, we are also at the mercy of the health care system. We almost have no say in how care is to be given and when. My Mom's exams and tests will all be free of charge, including visits to specialists, and I believe medications are also covered to a certain amount in their province (health care is provincial). But at the same time, they also have long wait times for care and services. Whatever we try to do will be a slow process. At this point in time, we need to figure out what is really going on with my mom. Her doctor doesn't seem to think it's an urgent matter. And my mom thinks she's just forgetful. My brother and sister in law are probably in the best position to figure out what we should do since they live in the area and know the health care system there better.

He wouldn't even change light bulbs or batteries; I did those when I visited recently, took only a few minutes. Between me and my younger brother and his wife, we are compiling information and observations to see which is the best direction to follow. My parents and my older brother don't like outsiders meddling in so it would be tough to get them to cooperate. Forcing things could backfire on us who are really trying to help.

I don't think she tells her doctor she is taking all these supplements. The onset of this issue seems to coincide with the overuse of supplements. I had told her to check with her doctor a couple of years ago before taking them. She said her doctor didn't need to know. @seaspot_run Yeah, totally understand. I don't know my parents' doctor at all. But he doesn't seem to be a good one. I asked my mom if she had her bloodwork done recently and she said of course. I asked what did the doctor say. She said he didn't say anything. I don't know if she lied or he really didn't go over it with her. I can't imagine she has no issues since she's on several meds. Seriously, now the policy is you can make a doctor's appointment for one concern/ailment only (say a rash). If you have more than one concern (say a rash and an arthritic wrist), you will have to make two appointments. Older people will have multiple concerns, so this means they will have to go to numerous appointments just to have their issues addressed. It's hard for them to get around as it is. My mom's solution is to just not bother to go. While I was there, I took a call from the referring clinic for an osteoarthritis specialist and since my mom was in the shower to took down the phone number and made sure it was correct. My mom then called the number and the specialist clinic did not have her name down for anything. My mom just said ok, hung up, and said it doesn't matter anyway. I would have fought that receptionist until she found her name but it wasn't my business.
