Give me your best quote people.
graceylou comments on Jun 7, 2018:
This might sound strange, but this is the best quote I've heard. It's from a Sherlock Holmes movie called The Case of the Whitechapel Vampire. Are you a friend of the Vampires? The bats? Is there any other kind?
graceylou replies on Jun 7, 2018:
@Sticks48 Honestly I don’t think I have a fave. I just happened to see this movie because I like anything to do with Whitechapel.

That is really creative ! Are you going to do cat walks, as well? I used to take care of a lady's cats that had her house decorated in cat colors and patterns. Everything was black, white, or orange. Even the key she gave me was tiger striped.
graceylou replies on Jun 7, 2018:
No. No walking of cats or dogs. I made the cat suites extra large with at least one window so there is enough space for the cats to roam around. There will be perches/ledges along the windows and the walls for the cats to climb on.

graceylou replies on Jun 7, 2018:
@MARDUK I don't do it either. Cats clean themselves. However there are occasions when some cats might require it. Oh, and I work alongside groomers at my workplace and they do groom cats. It always sounds like they're being mutilated alive.
What’s your creative outlet?
graceylou comments on Jun 7, 2018:
Dance, choreography. Soon I will get my "call to performers" for the festival in September. I've been so busy with other things I'm contemplating not participating this year though I've performed every year since the first year of the festival 8 years ago. But, since it is my only creative outlet ...
graceylou replies on Jun 7, 2018:
@AmiSue I can never resist. I always say I'm not going to do it but hell I still did it. Once I had one week left and decided to participate and choreograph something last minute. I never dance the same thing twice. Well, very rarely.

I would say that would actually be cheaper. You can go to the dollar tree and get lots of frozen veggies.

JackPedigo comments on Jun 6, 2018:
I agree to a point. Vegans are concerned about their health which usually means they look for organics. This is more expensive.
graceylou replies on Jun 7, 2018:
@JackPedigo My point is more that not all vegans eat organic or GMO free or similar. And not all people who eat organic or GMO free etc are vegans. If they choose organics etc then it will be more expensive. If not then it’s possible to go on very low budget as a vegan. That said, a lot of what I buy and available widely at the local stores happen to be GMO free and sometimes organic. I’ve also found some good places to buy organic foods for less and some bulk places that carry organic ingredients. I think the biggest cost for vegans is ready made processed packaged foods. I see so many people relying on them, may be out of necessity, may be because they find it easier. A pint of Ben & Jerry’s non-dairy ice cream is $9 at the store here and never goes on sale while the dairy versions of the same size is about $5. Not that I eat that stuff but some mom might have a kid who wants ice cream and she doesn’t have time to make her own.

graceylou replies on Jun 6, 2018:
@MoonlitLife Oh yes for sure. Vegan eating and life can be expensive but can also be done on a tight budget. It really depends on preferences and life circumstances.

graceylou replies on Jun 6, 2018:
Not all vegans are concerned about their health but yes some would only use organic ingredients and it gets expensive. Many non-vegans also buy organic, non-GMO, gluten free, etc. so it's just as expensive. I don't always buy organic or whatever other special qualities. As long as it doesn't have animal ingredients it's fair game. I don't care about healthy in particular; I just stay away from anything that is empty calories.

Question? Does anyone here do seed beading?
graceylou comments on Jun 6, 2018:
I use some seed beads in jewelry making. I did a lot of bead embroidery and bead weaving in the past.
graceylou replies on Jun 6, 2018:
@Sheannutt I had beadwork parties in the past. I have so many beads I don’t know what to do with them. Also Swarovski crystal beads. I had to sort out like a million damned beads.

graceylou replies on Jun 6, 2018:
I hear ya. I'm a member of several vegan groups on Facebook. People complain a lot about how expensive some plant milks are or something like vegan ice cream. Yet, you can easily make these yourself. I think the more experienced we are, the more we are able to lower the costs of vegan eating/living. It's important to share your knowledge to others who are new to the lifestyle.

Ellatynemouth comments on Jun 6, 2018:
To get all the nutrients you need without taking supplements, I think it is expensive.
graceylou replies on Jun 6, 2018:
I think if you eat a good variety and eat whole foods you can get a good balanced nutrition. B12 is the most commonly mentioned nutrient that vegans can be deficient in. Sometimes iron, and zinc. However, a lot of non-vegans are also deficient and need supplements. It's always best to get bloodwork done by your physician before adding any supplements whether you are vegan or not. If you drink plant milks bought from the store, it's likely fortified with vitamins and minerals. I know a lot of vegans who take no supplements at all (except what is in their plant milks and other supplemented vegan foods eg. nutritional yeast) and have normal bloodwork. In fact, vegans are more likely to be prone to over supplementing. To do it more on a budget, you can get complete supplements to avoid buying individual vitamins and such. Also for iron, you can use the "iron fish" which you buy once and can be reused for years.

It depends on what you count and what you eat. IMO most vegans will live with less medicine and fewer doctors visits; are we only counting the cost of food and preparation? Beans, cornmeal, and chili pepper are inexpensive, but prepared Chinese food is not.

That’s pretty sad that they are practically trained to come to the boats for the tourists’ entertainment. The adults would mostly stay hidden away because boats can mean hunters. @pixiedust I had to help a friend who put on a mascot costume for a store grand opening. I could see how torturous it could be. This costume would be ok for Halloween around here since it’s can get to -30C in late October. The poor kids would wear a thick winter jacket over their cute costumes to go trick or treating.

@Tomaf I’m not half yellow half white. Banana is used somewhat in an insulting way (not really quite a derogatory term) to refer to Asians (of immigrant families) who are very westernized. It was a very big deal where I grew up where there was a large more recent Asian immigrant population. Bananas are seen as not the real thing.

@OldGoat43 Pretty ladies. Foxy is more like a dog than an equine. She would probably live in the house if she didn’t become attached to the herd.

@Wildgreens I will be visiting my parents and staying with them for a few days. They are not vegetarian or vegan. I’m already having anxiety about it. Luckily Asian families aren’t big into heavy amounts of meats. I’m also happy to find out they have been using almond milk. Would make my life easier. We will be having a big celebration at a restaurant. I’m hoping people will order minimal meat dishes. The menu does offer some yummy looking veggie options.
