Taken in 2015 just before all my hair was shaved off for charity. The girls at work thought it would be a terrific hoot to have me with pink hair, I thought it may as well be a mohawk if we're going all in :-)

Why is it that most people here are from the US?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 15, 2018:
I think it's a number of reasons. It's an American site to start with but I think there is more pressure in America re religion and so the push against it is perhaps more visible. But as a percentage of the population I think you'll find more Agnostics and Atheists per head in the UK and around Europe than in the States. I'm sure there are stats available on the belief/non-belief demographics
I was wondering about something else: Are men the only one having one night stand?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 15, 2018:
No it's not just men, women do it too. Well not all men and women but you know what I mean :-)
I have been to the US often on business but id really like to there on a long vacation.
ipdg77 comments on Sep 14, 2018:
Just do one bit at a time. I went there around 8 times bteween 1987 and 1998 and spent nearly 8 months there in total. Drove coast to coast - twice! Set foot in 30 States and learned to fly a plane there. It takes a few trips but plan what you'd like to do each time. I had a brilliant time, met some great people and saw some amazing things. I would really recommend going :-)
I see that we have some "believers" in the group.
ipdg77 comments on Sep 14, 2018:
I don't care if they're here or not. If they're here to open their eyes then groovy, if they're here to try and open mine they can fuck right off.
Employment
ipdg77 comments on Sep 14, 2018:
I quite enjoy my work but don't love it, it's a means to paying the bills. It's the best place for me to be due to pension etc. I don't bring work home either physically or mentally, I leave it all there and so my time is free time and fortunately my mental health is in pretty good nick. If I won the lottery I'd quit tomorrow and do what I would like to do with the winnings
I am 48.
ipdg77 comments on Sep 14, 2018:
I'm 58, the chances of me finding someone else are remote for a number of reasons: 1. I don't do things that would be conducive to meeting someone else 2. I'm not convinced I'm making myself available 3. Without sounding dramatic I've lost the ability to trust someone emotionally 4. I'm not that fanciable (That's not self loathing it's a truth that life has taught me) 5. I have my work and my daughters, not sure I have room or want to make room for someone else. And contrary to the questioner I'm actually less picky in what I find attractive, could be it doesn't matter anymore or that I've gained a bit of wisdom along the way.

Are you very concerned what happens to your body after death?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 13, 2018:
Not really, it's not as if I can do much about it. I suppose the one thing would be is that I don't want a grave, that would mean upkeep for someone and in your face reminders, all the good stuff should be in your heart and head. So scatter my ashes in the compost at a garden project I'm involved in, that'll do :-)

How’s your driving?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 13, 2018:
I drive over the speed limit but not like a maniac, I have my window open unless the rain's coming in and the music up nice and loud, I'm aware of what other drivers are doing around me, I usually have a running commentary of how shit other drivers are, I warn other drivers of a speed trap they're coming up to, I never wash my car (well very rarely) I'm courteous (for the most part), I use all my mirrors, that's about it :-)

For me, in the UK, the remnants of the class system, specifically the notion of deference to a 'higher' social class. So, if for example, the Queen was visiting my place of work tomorrow I would make sure I was out on a call rather than be expected to bow, tug my forelock or do the whole 'Yes Maam' thing.
Life...no body knows what will happen tomorrow.

I might have mentioned this before but it keeps bothering me.
ipdg77 comments on Sep 13, 2018:
The English Premier league has gobs of money in it from the TV, therefore we can attract most of the top players because we'll pay huge wages. This in turn means less places for home grown players, why coach a youngster thru when you can go and buy a ready made replacement. Chelsea are a great example of having tons of young talent and hardly any ever gets to the first team because the manager is under pressure to win now, especially at Chelsea, also their business model is buy lots for less and sell at a profit, but the problem is you let go real talent. De Bruyne and Salah be two examples The bottom line with England is that although the league may be the best or one of the best in the world Southgate only has a pool of about 70 English Premier league players to choose from, not brilliant when you think that the Premier League has in the region of 500+ players. I'm all for our young guys going abroad to get experience and playing time and even have a career abroad if necessary. They can still play for England but they won't be riding the pine in the Prem :-)
Looks like I'm number 1 for now in our fantasy.
ipdg77 comments on Sep 13, 2018:
Takes a few weeks to settle down, and picking up the ones who slipped under the radar during the draft. There's also the problem of the under performing high draft pick, how much time do you give them before giving up on them?

First impressions can be over-looked?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 13, 2018:
For me the first impression counts for a lot but it's my instincts that say the most. Doesn't mean I take any notice of them but they're usually spot on. :-)

ipdg77 comments on Sep 13, 2018:
Without knowing all the specifics playing in the park, and staying active, is a great way to stimulate most if not all the senses. Sensory overload and underload (can't think what the opposite is) can quite often be areas where stress and anxiety build up leading to what a lot people see as 'odd'. Having a place to unload is just as important to having a place to unwind. Sensory issues are a really important area for ASC and it's good to see research in this area :-)

ipdg77 comments on Sep 8, 2018:
From my experience having played both sports and having coached American Football for 20 years is that when each side take the time to learn about the other sport then a mutual respect grows. There used to be the line that American Footballers were pansies because of the pads and rugby players are crazy because they don't wear pads. Both assumptions are totally inaccurate. There is a hard core line that some rugby fans take that American Footballers wouldn't stand a chance playing rugby but the same is true when rugby players take up football, if they have. You cannot switch codes and rely on your physical ability, American Football, and rugby for that matter, are so nuanced it has to have an instinctive element to it when played, that only comes with years of experience. Bottom line is that they are both great sports and should be enjoyed as they are without comparison :-)

ipdg77 comments on Sep 8, 2018:
I don't feel of my depth and I don't feel lonely but I am alone. I have my daughter that I see (11 years old) and a daughter I don't (15 years old), courtesy of my ex, I have friends, good friends, and a brother who I get on well with, I also have colleagues at work I get on well with and my work involves learning disabled adults who rely on me but I have no one I would confide my feelings with, at least not a confidante. I make all decisions by myself and have only my own sense, intelligence, intellect and intuition to problem solve. It is what it is, I make the best of it, I cope because I do, it's just the way I am.

I would say the first proper book I read had the most effect. Not because of it's content or story, it was The Kraken Wakes by John Wyndham, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but because it opened up the idea of reading. I never read anything in my own time and only read what I had to at school to get me by. John Wyndham opened up a universe of wonder.

Same with the guys, there are a lot who seem very comfortable with the slippers and the pipe, fine if that floats your boat, but if I must grow old I intend to grow old disgracefully :-)
