Taken in 2015 just before all my hair was shaved off for charity. The girls at work thought it would be a terrific hoot to have me with pink hair, I thought it may as well be a mohawk if we're going all in :-)

So what did everyone do for Labor Day?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 4, 2018:
Piss all, but we don't celebrate labor day in the UK :-)
Have you ever used pick-up lines?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 4, 2018:
Given my history in that department I would have to say no or at least none that worked :-)
I really dislike changing clocks twice a year.
ipdg77 comments on Sep 2, 2018:
It doesn't bother me particularly changing from GMT to BST and back but have always thought just add 1/2 hour to GMT and leave it there :-)
Okay, joined a fantasy football team at work for fun and smack talk. What is the latest advice?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 2, 2018:
Pick the best player available, even if you get more of one position it may be worth stashing for a trade. other than that don't over each to fill a position, TE is notorious for getting under production. Also it's probably worth having a good look at the players available, you may get yourself a sleeper for a later round :-)
Crystal Pepsi is back. What do you think?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 2, 2018:
I only half read the headline and thought it said Crystal Palace is back, wtf? They were in the prem last year same as this :-)

It is the belief of disbelief if there was any doubt in anyone's mind.

You live in Bum Fuck Minnesota? The Americans do have some unusual town names, I thought Bald Knob Arkansas was a good one :-) Skol!
I don't believe in god.
ipdg77 comments on Sep 2, 2018:
I can only speak from a personal stand point but I don't spend/waste time trying to explain why a god doesn't exist. My default is he/she/it doesn't exist therefore the people who do believe can spend time trying to prove the unprovable. As you say, the burden of proof is down to them, I have nothing (literally) to prove :-)
Well I'm stumped! Can anyone explain this?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 2, 2018:

ipdg77 comments on Sep 2, 2018:
It would have to be Egypt. I studied Egyptology for three years then took myself off there to just immerse myself in it for a short while. To be able to touch the past was fantastic :-)
New to this so bit confused

Do you say coo-pahn or q-pahn? Milk or melk? Pillow or pellow?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 2, 2018:
Being on this side of the pond it's Coo-pon, milk is good and Pillow, as the song says 'Two out of three ain't bad' :-)
Did you ever notice about history?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 2, 2018:
It's an oft said phrase 'History is written by the winners' but I suspect that with so many platforms for getting a message out that this will change over time.
Do you make the distinction between being skeptical vs. cynical?
ipdg77 comments on Sep 2, 2018:
I suppose in simple terms my skepticism comes out with an enquiring mind my cynicism comes out with sarcasm :-)

When my ex and I separated she tried to turn the children against me, she was the perpetrator of domestic violence but absolved herself of any wrong doing and instead told the children lies about me. Fortunately at the first opportunity my youngest took the opportunity to see me, after going thru the courts for 6 months as she denied me access, my eldest daughter and I haven't seen each other for 6 years, she's a vulnerable autistic girl, now 15, who my ex took advantage of and covered her child abuse by blaming me.

ipdg77 comments on Aug 31, 2018:
You know what, I'm going to say let's not. Not because I don't want her to but because she seems a genuinely thoughtful and thoroughly nice lady she'll get there on her own merits, but I share the sentiment in hoping she gets there soon :-)

I've seen the word "plausible" thrown around quite a bit here in regards to spiritual/religious ...
ipdg77 comments on Aug 31, 2018:
I just looked up the definition of plausible. The Oxford mini dictionary says 'Seeming reasonable or probable, (of a person) persuasive but deceptive' Maybe the second half of the definition has more resonance for people with regards the supernatural. But essentially I agree with you, no proof = no belief
How did religion affect you personally?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 31, 2018:
I'm not sure that it did other than to be very skeptical about anything said to me, which if it wasn't part of my personality when I was young it is now, so maybe it had a profound effect in a bizarre way :-)
Is anyone else scared to death to start over?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 31, 2018:
I wouldn't phrase it quite that way, for me its about losing the ability to trust and then either not wanting to try and over come that or not being able to, not sure which it is.
For Chelsea and Arsenal fans.
ipdg77 comments on Aug 31, 2018:
The only thing I would be worried about is the Prem game after any European away game, teams always have a problem with this. But as for the opposition no, if Chelsea lose a game it's because they're not concentrating or underestimated the opposition. I would expect Chelsea to probably win 4 and draw 2. :-)
I just realized my previous post read 'what the hell' at the end.
ipdg77 comments on Aug 28, 2018:
You can write any word you like, I swear all the time and nobody gives a toss. And in reference to your previous post, and this one, your posts are perfectly eloquent. In fact there are people who post who can barely spell or string a coherent sentence together but it's not about grammar, it's about joining in and having fun.........enjoy :-)

Anyone else enjoy sipping a good whiskey?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 28, 2018:
I like all whisky. single malts more then blends though. I also like bourbons, some of the honey bourbons are a delight as is Red Stag but if we're talking just whisky then any single malt is usually fine, they're all very different of course but if pushed I'd probably go with Talisker
What is the stupidest thing anybody has ever said to you? Bonus if it's not about religion.

Warrior nation mentality. Anyone else concerned by the jingoism often displayed in this country?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 27, 2018:
It is sometimes difficult to tell, from the UK, what is really the mind set of Americans. We see nearly everything through the lens of the media outlets and so are at the mercy of their agendas. Your words are refreshing as they probably represent the majority of (ex)servicemen in your country. We also have a high regard for our military people but the mood is nearly always somber never jingo-istic, I can think of one exception in recent memory, but I'm not sure why that is. America is portrayed as more gladiatorial in its approach to war, is that accurate? Britain has been fighting wars for 2,000 years, does that make a difference to how we now see war? I don't know but thx for a thought provoking question Marz
I wonder how many people here were born Atheist/Agnostic or were perhaps brought up religiously then...
ipdg77 comments on Aug 27, 2018:
You're not born as anything (in terms of a belief) you get that from the people and the environment they raise you in.
What do the words "mindfulness," "awareness," and "presence" mean to you?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 27, 2018:
The cynical part of me says they're words that have been hi-jacked by people who aren't any one of them. They're used as corporate buzz words for being ethical or at least trying to convince people they are.
What is something positive that came out of your divorce or separation?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 27, 2018:
Aside from the reasons for separating and access issues with the kids the overwhelming positive is that i got 'me' back. With a bit missing perhaps but the me i used to be, or something fairly close :-)
Are Dogs Agnostic?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 27, 2018:
It might be only me but there's an elephant in the room. Of course they're not fucking agnostic, they're dogs, to be an agnostic dog you'd have to establish the idea of a dog god and dog heaven, both of which have been thought of as unlikely by the dog. That's assuming he/she can articulate it in a way we can understand. PS I voted for licking my bum but I am in fact licking my balls, I can't reach any further round :-)

Should secularism be taught in high school as a part of a civics class or social studies.
ipdg77 comments on Aug 19, 2018:
I know it's a good deal different in the UK, there's seems to be a lot more pressure and overt Christianising (probably a made up word) of every facet of life in the US but, and this would also apply to the UK although tricky in church schools, teaching critical thinking and how to think would, I would hope over time envelope the secularism you seek. Getting religious schools or institutions to teach secularism is a bit like turkeys voting for christmas/thanksgiving but you never know, as more and more people question the validity of religions and what they represent maybe we can move forward with something more humanitarian.

For those of you with children, how do you address the issue of your belief system?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 18, 2018:
I'm just honest with them about why I feel the way I do. I give them both sides, I was brought up a Catholic so have a bit of insight, and will let them make up their own minds. I will of course encourage critical thinking and educate them on how to think not what to think. I think they'll be ok :-)

ipdg77 comments on Aug 18, 2018:
My ex did, and continues to justify, some revolting acts against me and the children (the latter are unaware) so forgiveness isn't anywhere on my agenda. If she made sort of attempt at repairing the damage then who knows but damage has been done and what she's taken away can't be given back, so no.......fuck off, not a chance.

How many here use or have used online grocery ordering?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 18, 2018:
All the big supermarkets do it over here but I still go to them to shop. I do have a very helpful youngest daughter who pushes the trolley, scans in the items and essentially does most of it. I'm only there for light conversation and waving my card at the machine. All works rather well actually :-)
I updated my profile.
ipdg77 comments on Aug 18, 2018:
I like honesty of character, I can respect someone I disagree with but just don't tell lies and make up a facade of bullshit to justify deception. Just be honest and genuine. Can I forgive? Not sure, I don't ever forget so.......probably not, it's not a point of principle but if I have been slighted in some way it diminishes how I feel about a person or situation and that can't be undone.
Another rare day that I woke up feeling positive.

Has a song ever changed your mind? What was the song? How did it affect you?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 18, 2018:
I've always played a sort of game with myself whereby when life turns to dog shit, usually as a result of an emotional upset, I make up a soundtrack to go with how I feel and how I'm going to get thru. It's good fun and very therapeutic. When I separated from my wife, there wasn't much emotional drag to be honest but she did try and damage the relationship I had with my daughters as well as trying to nail me financially, so a few songs that went on the 'Album' were She Fucking Hates Me Won't Back Down Long Way Back From Hell So Long As I Can See The Light Ain't No Pleasing You I'm Free :-)
Is it okay for an atheist to sing sacred music?
ipdg77 comments on Aug 18, 2018:
It's ok for an atheist to sing anything they like. Ding Dong Merrily On High hardly makes you a rampaging hypocrite no more than singing Smoke On The Water makes you an arsonist.
