Are you your own best friend ? How do you treat yourself as a person ?
ipdg77 comments on Feb 25, 2018:
Good question, I probably am although I'm lucky to have a couple of people who really would do anything for me and I for them. Like they say a friend will help you move, a good friend will help you move a body. As for the other bit, I've never thought about it but I suspect better now than I did when I was younger :-)

ipdg77 comments on Feb 25, 2018:

ipdg77 comments on Feb 24, 2018:
It's just the sheep mentality with the whole praying bullshit. It doesn't work and it's totally meaningless. I guess as a gesture of support it's sort of ok but doesn't actually help medically at all, ever.

1. I spent a summer working on a summer camp in upstate New York, I'm from the UK so it was on a student exchange. I met Dr Who's granddaughter, went to the NY Giants training camp, saw Motley Crue & Whitesnake at Madison Sq Garden, was one of 13 that got into a Honda Civic to drive to the local bar and then drove coast to coast twice (Drivaway inc) Fabulous time :-) 2. I was also a stand in Santa for the stand in Santa at my daughters pre-school. All kids went 'wow' when I walked in, my daughter said 'That's my dad!?' 3. I work for the local Electoral Office so am one of the polling station staff on election days, it's just really good fun to be involved in that kind of national day.

ipdg77 comments on Feb 24, 2018:
I'm not sure but one way would be, after I die, I heard a voice say 'Well you got one bit wrong didn't you?', but then to prove he really is the man he would then say 'No matter, the kettles on, make yourself at home'. That might do it :-)

Dating the religious.
ipdg77 comments on Feb 24, 2018:
I suppose it really depends on how she deals with her faith, I.e. privately, trying to convert all the time or sticking some god thing at the forefront all the time and how you deal with her having any kind of faith. If you can have an 'each to their own' attitude you should hopefully be able to spend time on the things that matter about you and her developing a relationship. If it really doesn't bother you, you should always be able to bat it away with 'I'm still dealing with certain aspects of religion' or 'I haven't had much luck with it, you clearly have' that kind of thing. It could well be seen as a cop out but maybe faith/non faith really doesn't matter very much with both of you.

I will say this, I'm a place you get water from, not a virgin and I can be submissive it depends what you're after. The women I am drawn to are the ones that are interested, pretty straight forward really, most women aren't though. You busy? :-) Not Tim

ipdg77 comments on Feb 23, 2018:
Religious or otherwise I have respect for anybody that performs an act of kindness for no return or with no caveats involved. I like to think I do all manner of 'nice' things during the course of the day from making someone a cuppa to maybe donating time/money etc but for me it's an end unto itself and I don't keep score. I'm also aware of god believing people who do the same and if they choose to give their god some credit then fine. If it motivates them in the first place is that good or bad? I don't know, it doesn't bother me whether they make the coffee or god does. But it maybe asks the question that we get thrown at us about morals, we get our morals from within us, they get them from an external force, does that not make ours more genuine and human?

ipdg77 comments on Feb 23, 2018:
Christopher Hitchens describes a miracle as 'The suspension of the laws of physics - in your favour', Surviving your accident may have been down to your own inner will or physical wellbeing to be able to survive, good medical intervention and luck that you didn't actually shred anything vital. The odds of you surviving may have been very long but long shots win.......as you did :-)
Has a faith healer ever wanted to try to heal you?
ipdg77 comments on Feb 23, 2018:
I had a friend many years ago who was heavily into spiritualism and faith healing and having been privy to a lot of 'sessions' I am convinced that the odds of faith healing working run at less than 50% because it's chance and you're dealing with something with less than a 50/50 chance of getting better on it's own. Faith may give the recipient succour if they're receptive to it or have a faith to start with but I couldn't see any improved outcome or evidence based success. I suppose it didn't actually do any harm as it wasn't forced on anybody.

My mum liked people like Deanna Durbin, and some bloke I can't remember but she did like musicals and again I'll quite happily watch On The Town, Singin' In The Rain, Sound Of Music (The lonely goatherd being a masterpiece) etc. When I became musically sentient I like UK 70s Glam Rock, this morphed into rock and I've been a metal head since then, with some other stuff chucked in :-)

ipdg77 comments on Feb 19, 2018:
I think you will find the strength to find your own way. You've started already even if it's really difficult. I didn't have religion forced on me but was taken to church every Sunday, because that's what you did, and had a Catholic upbringing i.e. baptism, confirmation and schooling but was allowed to follow my own way. The Catholic church was very prominent on my dad's side especially, Grandfather was going to be a priest......but he met my Grandmother lol my uncle is still very active in his local church. But ultimately I made my own decisions and came to my own conclusions but I accept I had an environment to do so in. At least you've found this place, it could well be a valuable resource for support, good luck Nyssi :-)
Happily single—or not?
ipdg77 comments on Feb 19, 2018:
Each has there own story. I'm happily single as I was the victim of domestic abuse. There are contact issues around one of my daughters which time, and my absolute stubborness, will resolve, if I have a faith it's in that. The ongoing issue is one of trust and damage to my ability to be able to put my emotional trust in someone, not sure if this resolves or if I will just evolve differently to how i thought i might. I like to think I'm open to the possibility of another relationship but I'm not 100% sure of this. That may all sound a bit heavy but it's the reason I'm single and for the most part enjoying the tranquility.

ipdg77 comments on Feb 19, 2018:
I've been single for long periods of times, not necessarily out of choice at the time but I'm happy in my own company and seem to find things to do. I don't think I've ever been lonely or bored, especially now as being single (separated) again was forced and in hindsight necessary although the cost, not money wise, was high. Will I remain single, probably, not because I'm not attractive to someone (I guess I am) but because I don't ask much and I'm really crap at hooking up with someone :-)

What does "coffee" mean to you?
ipdg77 comments on Feb 18, 2018:
Coffee is for me the perfect companion to a cigarette. That moment of calm during the day when the rest of the world can f*** right off. It is also a community moment of a shared joy with friends or anybody sharing the moment. It's a pity you got a couple of flakes whose upbringing omitted a simple basic human truth. Coffee is an end unto itself. And no you haven't missed something you were just unlucky

Does anyone pay any attention to the match percentage?
ipdg77 comments on Feb 17, 2018:
It doesn't appear to mean anything other than that equated by an algorithm, I'm no more going to meet anybody from this site than be the next Pope high rating or not, but this is more to do with experience of dating sites which this isn't really. As much as I hate to admit it, but it appears to be a truth, I'm not very fanciable for reasons I'm not entirely sure of, it could be looks, it could be attitude, it could be personality or it could be that I don't come across as available as much as I think I do. So for me there's no point in paying attention to it whatever it says :-)

ipdg77 comments on Feb 17, 2018:
My maternal line has Irish in it, many years ago I had a couple of worts on my elbow, my mum rubbed the inside of a broad bean husk on them (passed down from her Irish Grandmother, the cure not the actual broad beans!) and the next time I looked some months later they were gone. Does this mean I lead a charmed life? No, Does it mean I have the luck of the Irish? No. Does it mean I believe all this stuff? No. But it is a nice story and part of my ancestry :-)

ipdg77 comments on Feb 17, 2018:
Now I appreciate there are many caveats to this and I come from and live in a country with very strict gun laws but..........the simple truth is less guns means less shootings, i.e. no guns no shootings. There are simply too many guns floating around which means the likelihood of one falling into the hands of an unscrupulous or unbalanced individual increases many fold. Gun registration would be a good start so every gun is recorded which means taking responsibility for yours. You can own a gun in the UK but the criteria is rigorous and so it should be and people still slip through the net but shootings are less per capita and this can't be coincidence. I'm fairly sure there is a constitutional issue for America to over come as well, but it would certainly help if groups like the NRA were more vocal in there condemnation and were onside with robust controls and responsibility rather than the ;Over my dead body' mantra, They could lead the way, you can still own a gun but you can also show not only some moral leadership but common sense and critical thinking along the way. I get the distinct impression that there is an increasing ground swell of opinion where by something meaningful has to, and probably will be, done.

You can look up the story but the Saints punter coming on for the point after, after the Minneapolis Miracle was an example. That action then lead to a series of matching acts of kindness and generosity between the New Orleans and Minneapolis communities.

I didn't have my first daughter until I was 43 so started late. I was fairly sure when turning 40 that the opportunity had past me by so was surprised and ultimately delighted when I ended up with not one but two. :-)

Taken in 2016 at Download, three days of rock, metal and thrash, fantastic. Don't know who the grumpy cow is behind me, she obviously didn't like the rain!

One of the Indestructibles and a pretty hideous look but my daughter thinks it's a hoot!
