Have You Saved Someone's Life?
jacpod comments on Jul 11, 2018:
Possibly; I was living in the lake district and there is a beating the bounds ceremony where the children make rushbearings with flowers in the rushes and take them to the church after walking round the parish with alll the bishops at the front singing the rushbearing song its back to the church for lemonade and gingerbread and school sports that include after all the races, a run up Helvellyn Fell .My partner and I went on ahead up the fell in order to cheer the kids on - a boy who was a severe asthmatic had decided against instructions that he would do it too and he collapsed at the top where we were - I managed to pick him up and bring him down - He was heavy and no one at the ground level noticed for a long time I got stuck at a large gateway with a stile at the bottom and also got stuck holding him even when other rescuers came - I sort of couldn't let go. he survived but it could have been nastier if we hadn't decided to run up the fell first.
Thought is merely electricity in the brain
jacpod comments on Jul 11, 2018:
I'd take out the 'merely' because without paying attention we wouldnt have come up with maths or poetry etc. I love my beautiful electric prompts to paint, wash myself, and all the other wonderful enjoyments that come with those electric impulses to get off my arse and do something fun and enjoyable.
Men/Women, Is sex a requirement for an enjoyable romantic relationship?
jacpod comments on Jul 11, 2018:
My partner and I have a very beautiful committed relationship that hasnt been sexual consensually now,for over 25 years we have a lot of love for each other look out for each other laugh a lot and dont live together though I do all the cooking and most of our cleaning and he does all our finances etc. its a good division of labour and we do laugh a lot though we don't spend huge amounts of time together. Both of us were in abusive families and how we get on is partly to do with that - He is a gentle person thoughtful and kind and i ma the funny fall guy one. We pick each other up when we get depressed it works.
Is love the motivator of empathy or is empathy the motivator of love?
jacpod comments on Jul 11, 2018:
the answer to this for me is it depends as there will be so many more emotions in the mix that attach to love and empathy- I enjoy my self love when it arrives and I guess for me different feelings are rising adn falling constantly some harmoniously some not and how I respond is different each time. and each situations. I think that is what is interesting about being alive and having interesting times.
What is the bible to you?
jacpod comments on Jul 11, 2018:
Historically it seems that it was the spoken word not written down for many centuries but passed on so I guess if I know anyhting about humans at all there were bits added and subtracted from the story - I read somewhere that the Emperor constantine had a very troublesome populace who were believing all sorts of things and arguing a lot so to get them peaceful he got it written down - I think that is probably why it makes very little sense to me and I was much more inot reading Tom sawyer and huck Finn Anne of Green Gables etc much better narrated stories.

jacpod comments on Jul 11, 2018:

I recently made a post that referenced a hideous creature called Alzheimer's Disease.
jacpod comments on Jul 10, 2018:
I make jokes about myself having a 10 second memory- it helps me cope and also informs people that I am not always the sharpest knife in the box any more - It is scary to me that my memory isn't as fluid as it was and joking helps - I live in sheltered accommodation (which actually doesnt provide very much shelter) sometimes I make excuses just for myself but not to my real friends.

jacpod comments on Jul 10, 2018:
I am not humbled! how could I be; a non belief is just that ,simply, its not a cause or a battle just a choice. And I have a right to my choice- making it into a competition is crass.
I’ll be visiting my mother in less than a month.
jacpod comments on Jul 10, 2018:
I have a friend whose mother is part of the We- Free's ultra strong sect - My friend says she just girds herself up on visits for ' la la land where the moon is made of blue cheese ' She says if she is girded enough, it works as she does love her mum. Just simetimes has to use excuses to leave early.

I admit I was kind of a bad girl in high school.
jacpod comments on Jul 10, 2018:
I couldnt stand state school. I was at free school from four to nine years old which was a really good deal there were few of us in the class sometiems 8 0r 9 at most, just one teacher very quiet environment and we could work at anything we wanted as long as we worked at something - The one and only teacher ran the free school because she wanted to teach that way . we were always busy learning but what we learned was in our gift. Going to State primary was such a shock to me that I couldn't speak for the whole of my first day it was so noisy. Grammar school was even worse.I sagged off so much that my teachers were unbelievably surprised that I managed to get any O levels at all - later I went to uni as a matyre student and enjoyed it immensely.
Disillusioned? Why do you feel this way?

"People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life.
jacpod comments on Jul 10, 2018:
I dont think I have ever sought anything; though I could be fooling myself. Life just seems to happen for me whilst I am amusing myself gardening or whatever, stuff just happens i don't have any sense that it wont - something always happens - maybe I have low expectations or am too easily pleased.

jacpod comments on Jul 10, 2018:
I remember someone saying to me once 'when you feel trapped like this stand still look and listen and breathe and be quietly with your self ' I especially like the breathe bit because when everything gets so out of hand breathing becomes shallow too - the hole in the trap will become apparent maybe when you work out how to relax into it ?

Does anyone feel the way I do?
jacpod comments on Jul 8, 2018:
I don't know - I cant get my head round it at all - life/or not or how to live that life is is a personal choice - I am not sure that I would condemn anyone for wanting to steal or cheat because just being alive at this very moment implies choice (To stay and make more choices ) . I remember watching a very old film at the QFT Uni cinema in Belfast it was just called 'M' and it posed many real human choices about how to be human
How did LSD impact your view of religion?

At first I thought you were talking about money in Britain L.S.D is 'old speak', for pounds shillings and pence. I have never in my entore life been religious but have taken L.S.D and really enjoyed it - I was with friends in Greenwich Park London and had some amazing beautiful times.

Collective Identity of Non-theists
jacpod comments on Jul 8, 2018:
I disagree with the notion of being active about something that has never been a a part of my life & is seriously unimportant to me . I am here because no-one is going to be god bothering and I am certainly uninterested in delving into whys and wherefores and fighting over naming all the words for not having a god - so it isn't all smooth sailing - but folks on here are really pleasant on the whole - its a safe site and a kindly one I choose to come here as I feel I have got to know some people and I can have a laugh.

Do you have an issue with people taking a knee?
jacpod comments on Jul 8, 2018:
In the old days of the 1950's it was customary to stand up when the national anthem was played at the end of a film. Sometimes we left just before the final scene ending just to avoid hte crowds and be able to catch a bus home without waiting in the cold. I have no special reverance for our "Royal's', I dont care about them in any way - They don't impact my life and I don't expect to be forced into something that is not part of my culture as a working class woman. Respect is fine but has its limits too.

I dont think I would start from here - Donald trump is some sort of weird and appalling aberation. loving our selves has nothing at all to do with Trump who doesn't seem capable of stringing two coherent sentences together let alone be capable of loving any one other than himself ( for the truth of that one study the wife) Loving yourself is completely in your own power and probably starts with practising not putting yourself down & accepting who you are and how you come and making changes to yourself that you want to make in your own time at your own pace - You are not here to please any one else you are here for yourself.
Trauma produces a disassociation between mind and body - a kindness granted by nature to numb the ...

there was a 1931 film titled 'M' which explored this concept https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M_(1931_film) and after I watched it (Very long almost in real time) I was conflicted and probably still am. I dont think any life is sacred or at least any more sacred than any other and I am still thinking about it - I am glad that we have great people around with great minds but seems to me we are what we are and that is the long and short of it .

jacpod comments on Jul 8, 2018:
I have a partner who is sensitive enough to ask that question and also capable of staying with my rage at my position - we met on a counselling course - I was his tutor and later we became friends then partners we understand each others foibles enough to keep ourselves tuned in to what is necessary and know too when to back off. We live in sheltered accommodation, in separate flats and out of the 26 flats here there are very few people who would know how to handle either of us so accepting the situation was paramount even the scheme co-ordinator is incapable of any empathy so I guess it really is down to our selves to deal with the undealable with .

jacpod comments on Jul 7, 2018:
No, people are allowed their own opinions last time i looked it was a fairly free country nad we dont owe allegiance to anybody it is earned just like every other - I am not in your country so cant really speak about this aspect but I hope that everyone has the freedom to express their views as they wish non violently and to not be penalised for what they think feel or act.

Swear words?
jacpod comments on Jul 4, 2018:
I like "Well! Damn I blast, and sod I sideways!" Havent much of a baldie what it means but its been passed down by generations of my family. the ones that dont have religious words are mostly swear words - My ex when he hurt himself would try to say as many swear words end to end as he could manage in one long breath ending in really silly ones -like piss, poo ,piddle, wee, fart.

jacpod comments on Jul 4, 2018:
I think maybe learning how to like yourself a little better each day might help, just baby steps along the way to the first stages of recovery those of us who have been abused in this way often need a bit of sourness in our lives in order to exist - that doesn't last forever - there is somethign better out there and i can say from some experience it does come but it comes from within and often with anger attached which was about never having /feeling ordinary love without the bells and whistles, just good solid love.

We have one quaker meeting house in n.ireland that I know about - I wonder if it is because most other peope are needing some certainty in an uncertain world- Quakers don't have certainty and I think-, some people really crave it - something to hang on to that is seriously real to them - rather than 'personal musings'.I guess most people really are 'lost' and not liking that feeling very much of not being supported by somethign outside of themselves.

Strangely I have lived in a lot of different places and it is accents that please me more than words - Newcastle-upon-Tyne is delicious- I hang around in shops just to hear people speak I love local dialects and mostly havent a baldie what they are saying .
