jacpod comments on May 12, 2018:
One flew over the cuckoos nest' because it is a fight back against teh establishment Alice in Wonderland - as it was the book i learned to read with, and still love its quirkiness.
Who Should be Judged?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
the only people I judge are those who hurt me on purpose - and basically I just freeze them out of my life.
Just what you up to this week end?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
Probably walking along the beach ,maybe playing crazy golf, gardening ,apparently we are going to have a good week of sunshine so anything will do if its nice and warm.
What's the worst thing done to humanity in the name of religion?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
Holocaust and Israel?
How best can we comfort our dying atheist friend(s) and family members?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
Maybe you could broach it gently by asking if there is anything else she would like to talk about - it sounds as if you are panicking about something that is natural I don't know of anyone who has those words to hand & being there is enough. It is good to know that someone is there . Believe in yourself - You are enough she will talk if she wants to ,trust yourselves.
Family is the most over-rated institution ever.
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
I dont know if my brother 8 years older than me is dead or alive he would be 78 years old and i havent got his address & to be honest I dont really care, we were never close , both come from the maddest family in London and I think of him very seldomly.
Shouting into the abyss. Is there anyone out there?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssss
Have you ever been voted "Someone most likely to ..."?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
Strangely to me people I knew used to think I would be up for anything; and because they treated me that way out; I became that way out and would do anything and be quite bold but it doesn't really feel like me ; to me!.
What is it with pet names?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
When I first met my partner he used my name in every sentance and I realised its normal from Northern Ireland as where he is from Peoples names are very important - I am used to being called all sorts; love ,darlin, etc so found it quite weird to be addressed so much by my own name
Mom moved to another country .
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
my grandmother went through all the family names to get to mine but was still capacitous just a bit throughother from old age - If she lieve sin another country and isnt used to seeing you so much oyu might just be the one she doesnt remember so well and she may have other strengths that you dont identify because you are so far apart.
Sound or visual?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
if I can see I can learn to lip read, and also read books ,my favourite thing, and I wouldnt have to listen to people moaning- I could do a Gallic shrug and hands in a 'whatever!' gesture. I am pretty good at body language: yes! definitely 'seeing'
Be brave and continue on.
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
Thank you Hippie Chick; I needed that right now - so much I cant change and really really want to. I know exactly what I want so its so tantalising -but I will give it a go .

jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
No! never studied the bible, never had a god, and totally uninterested, which is why I come here.
So everyone who I know is trying to get me to believe in God and I just want to remain an atheist ...
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
Just breathe deeply and find yourself few words to say to yourself so you can buck up a bit I say. I am enough! I do enough! I have enough! But anything that you can think of thats short and sweet and helps you through the insecurity is O.K ,You are allowed to have your own mind. And you are allowed to walk away from people who are hassling you. Give yourself as many permissions as you need to stay OK with yourself.
Is anybody curious about how members came up with their online names?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
Mines just a contraction of my name - my name is pretty rare only four others in england share it .
Follow up on me and my bike ?
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
No we get broader saddles that fit our larger arses. I found when I was cycling in Manchester that there was a spate of people in vans knocking cyclists down on purpose and stealing your bike and just leaving you to pick yourelf up bruised and shaken - maybe a man would deal with that better but its a bit of a turn off so is being on a tandem and everyone in the world shouting 'lazy daisy'! at you
I suppose I could put this post in the Academic category, but this is for sure a cross-category ...
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
I came of age at 21 years old because that was what it was in 1969 in England - To celebrate I did all the things thta were previously illegal.I smoked a cigarette (badly). I bought myself a pint of bitter in a pub - and I put a bet on a horse called Lauravella - I was encouraged by my partner to place another bet on another horse as he said that it was a boring bet just doing one that was a favourite. I didnt want to but I did and that was probably the beginning of the end of our marriage - Lauravella won Ribocco didnt.I havent ever bet since nor smoked and dont drink.
What is your response when people threaten you with religious punishments? (i.e. Hell/Jahannam)
jacpod comments on May 11, 2018:
I usually laugh because they are so earnest and funny and afraid for me na dstart to cry and all that silliness and it seems to always be all about them and their feelings no one ever knocks on my door to ask if I would like them to do something for me - They Just take - they take up my time - they take up my patience they take up my warm feelings for others and i wish they would go somewhere else and get a grip. Its totally all about their neediness.
My first post, here we go! I saw an ad for this place while reading reddit.

Love and hate
jacpod comments on May 10, 2018:
I think that the opposite of Love is Fear but you might be able to separate them if they are not equal If I love 75 per cent and fear 25 per cent? I am an absolute eejit in maths so feel free to mock!

Old age does slow down the mind a bit.
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
This so reminds me of my son who before he could read could bring up from downstairs any album he was asked to get - but he was frightened of the beginning of the jefferson airplane album and always hid it in the pile and denied it was there .
Fellow agnostics, how do you feel about believers joining?
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
There is a capacity to block people but I have only used it twice I find on the whole that this is a respectful site and there are places where people can talk about semantics of atheism and agnosticism that you dont have to visit if you dont want to '
I've got two kids.
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
I trusted my own children to be able to figure out these minefields for themselves they seemed pretty capable and apart from some strange tea time discussions when they came back from school having misunderstood the jargon - they seemed to handle everything pretty well. I think I wanted to know that they were robust enough to counter anything they imagined to be outrageous to then = we lived in a commune and they got many different ideas from listening to other people speaking who lived with us..
What are your theories about why the 3 major religions all started in the same place in the middle ...
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
Is it possible that it was because they had 'writing'
Is it ok to be an athist but still use religious books for social guidance?
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
I imagine you will do what you need to do in order to find your own way through to what your belief/non belief system actually is. It has to be your decision how you work this one out because its your learning not ours - I have never had a god and never had a bible or any other religious books or paraphernalia, so you have to work at it for yourself - There are no rules - you have to decide what is ok for you - if you take advice then it wont be whatever you might figure out for yourself - You're on a journey to find out; so work out for yourself what is O.k. for you -(in this moment) as journeys have a habit of taking you to other places to make other decisions. good luck!
What's the nicest thing you've ever done for another person?
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
When I lived in the lake district, Ambleside, the school children had their sports day and then ran up Helvellyn ,the local fell. One boy was told not to go as he had asthma but he went anyway and my partner and i had already climbed the fell in advance to cheer on the stragglers from the top. The asthmatic one sort of 'fitted' ,and I carried him down. He was pretty big and when people came running to help I was near the bottom but there was a gate to be crossed - people by this time had realised that we needed help and I couldn't let go of him - I Think I was in some sort of altered state like in a battleground situation - All was well in the end wehn lots of people were around and the local doctor etc.
Unicorns and other invisible entities:
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
I have a plague of unicorns in my bed every night! and every night I have to push them all out so I can get into bed - its those crazy unicorns behind every thing thats going wrong with the world - I bet its the unicorn breath making Trump so orange.
This is my favorite painting that I've done. I'm a sketcher by heart, so finished work is rare.

If Jesus Christ was really God, what should he have said?
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
you should have said what I posted when I was asked to stand in for you for a day;Go forth and please yourself! do whatever you like! - I'm not the one in control of your wants and needs you silly people - have a ball don't take it all too seriously life is too short! Now Play!
President Trump, Dr.
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
'a trump' in english means 'a fart ' that is how I will always think of him with those ridiculous fake tans and white rings round his eyes - weirdo hairdo! How could anyone respect that?
Your experiences on agnostics
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
No just a camaradarie and a shared sense of humour and the ridiculous - Sometimes there are posts I just pass by if they are too wordy or nit picky but on the whole I really enjoy being here (even when I am fed up with people defining me in words - agnostic atheist etc. I just say 'I am godless I have no god - I dont want to quibble about labels!'
Saw this quote and thought I would share it.
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
I respect people with religion, it isnt hurting me - if it did I would disrespect them - I don't have to buy into it and not everyone feels the need to proseletyse. I have a laugh with very many people who I know are religious doesn't stop them having humanity and doesn't stop me either. If they come accross strong and crusading I will cross them off my list but so far that hasnt happened.
Hey Everyone!

Atheists are good or bad persons?
jacpod comments on May 9, 2018:
A mixture just like everyone else Darwin had a hard time because his wife was extremely religious and his evolutionary science would likely have upset her - he delayed origin of the species for her sake .
You are God for the day. What commandments would you make?

Humanism is practically a religion-esque ideology. Prove me wrong!
jacpod comments on May 8, 2018:
Why would I. if you think youre right ?. Why do you want to be proven wrong? if you have a point of view you can state it. if you want to argue over 'terms' I am not interested. there is a place here for people to argue over word usage!
Has religion deprived society of being able to cope with death? True or false?
jacpod comments on May 8, 2018:
I dont kno was I have always been atheist but I am not scaared of dying and pretty sure death is going to be the end of me.
Religion is the opium of the masses.
jacpod comments on May 8, 2018:
I think so because there is the dependence on a glorious hereafter and if you are dead you wouldn't get to know if it were true or not so it seems a bit like having money in the bank when you die without a will.
Why did you choose atheism?
jacpod comments on May 8, 2018:
I never came to it I never was religious in any shape or form and neither were my rellies.
Would we really want Pence instead of trumpie.

Do u think Christianity is bad ? What's your opinion on it
jacpod comments on May 8, 2018:
No I have met some amazing nuns and priests and vicars who all seem like really reasonable people. I dont agree with most of their beliefs but why should that matter to me - I don't have to live with them and I am not part of their flock. I did a course in Person Centred Therapy, Later became a Lecturer in teh same College . there were on my course of just over twenty, a vicar a deaconess 2 priests and 2 nuns - The only ones who outed themselves were the vicar and the priests they were just ordinary and enjoyed the course. they were fun people apart from the nuns and the deaconess who didn't even try to engage in the course but sat in a corner praying - We mostly had a lot of fun and I enjoyed it immmensely.
How do you deal with Door-knockers?
jacpod comments on May 8, 2018:
I used to let them in on account of while they were with me they were not bothering anyone esle but now I live in sheltered accommodation and its probabaly better that they dont takeup 26 peoples time.
What kind of snob are you?
jacpod comments on May 8, 2018:
I'm not a snob about anything (that I know about) I doit really have opinions about stuff like you mention I dont put down songs I odnt like I just dont listen to them I dont really care what I eat - I like peanut butter and marmite sarnies - I dont listen to 'experts" I have a first in in fine and applied arts but appreciate anyhting any one wants to have a go at - even if I laugh - I dont put it down as they are trying - I odnt drink alcohol drink instant coffee and practically eat the same food every day - that is healthy enough. I suppose I am saying that I dont really care what is suppposed to be good - its my choice no one elses.

Do u think Christianity is bad ? What's your opinion on it
jacpod comments on May 7, 2018:
I don't really think anything is 'bad' - just not for me - I would stay away from a whole pile of stuff that doesnt have any interest for me - People do whatever they need in order to get through the day - It isn't really any of my business to judge them for it - I have never had a god and never felt the need for one, bit not judging any one elses need.

Belfast: What's it like to live there?
jacpod comments on May 7, 2018:
I live in Northern Ireland 'Ballycastle '- I think a couple of years in Belfast would be entertaining at the very least - The countryside is nice - when I lived in England and 'the troubles' were on between catholics and protestants on BBC T.V it always seemed like it was night time and people were clashing dustbin lids together so I had a very weird idea of what it was like here - When I came to live here I found it was very beautiful. You could drive past fields for hours. I am four minutes from the sea and Rathlin Island. there are forests and its not very populated. And you can always go to Southern Ireland or Dublin to see amazing scenery .
So after a very long and challenging period of time of unemployment, I was finally offered a ...

jacpod comments on May 6, 2018:

What is it with pet names?
jacpod comments on May 6, 2018:
I dont think I mind either way as long as I like the name - I have changed my own name quite a few times so its quite nice for me but when youre in a long term relationship somehow I find that I dont get called by name very much at all whereas when we were dating umpty nine million years ago he always called me by my name.

jacpod comments on May 5, 2018:
I find it strange when I greet people politely and they respond negatively - I wonder what they heard about me - there are a few people in my housing scheme that I have given up talking to because they are pretty ignorant and it doesn't cost me a thought - 26 people are a lot to try to get on with and if they don't like me I don't want to be around them either.

Separated by a common language! Is this Brits and Yanks? Or males and females? Perhaps both?
jacpod comments on May 5, 2018:
I rather think we are all every one of us separated by our different takes on the spoken language' even given the different words; because you have to know someone a long time before you get the intensity of what they are telling you - Some people are always hyper when conversing and overegging the pudding others are calm when they are just about to go to pieces - So I think its universal and communication comes with a lot of time for understanding especailly drama kings and queens
This is a bit of a bragging post.

jacpod comments on May 5, 2018:
I understand; I am seventy, dont know what that is in dog years - but getting on anyway. And in some ways I totally agree the hurties/achies are everpresent - I can still do what I like but pay for it in backaches etc. I remember less and spend more time forgetting what I have come into a room for than I used to.-However with the ageing process comes some advantages in that its like seeing the same movie over and over but with different characters so fewer surprises - when I was younger some events really knocked me for six now it flows over me and i get over things very easily, people dont really expect too much of me and I dont tell them about my armfuls of qualifications because its easier just being 'an auld doll' -so -pluses and minuses

I was already a plasterer before I went to uni and also filmmaker and head of the workers co-operative in Liverpool - I think the maths floored me more that anything else I have said elsewhere I went to a free school and never was interested in Maths but you have to have some grasp on it I sailed though everything except the hated maths.

Would blocking somebody here be the same as shunning in a religious sense?
jacpod comments on May 3, 2018:
I have blocked someone who was so persistent they were getting totally on my case and I didnt imagine that they tried to understand at all just kept repeating - Someone else did exactly the same thing and I offered for him to block me I think and hope he has because it was way petty we were not on the same page at all .
Does anybody else have unique, interesting or strange hobbies?
jacpod comments on May 3, 2018:
I like encouraging people in artistic endeavours I have a first in fine and applied art and have made a lot of quirky scultures in a varety of materials but find a love now not particulary teaching but showing what is possible its interesting to sort of sculpt people to be more open and adventurous with colours textures and materials - It s not my job just a hobby of being with people who want to share.
What film would you say is under-appreciated?
jacpod comments on May 3, 2018:
My daughter script wrote a film called 'Kicks' it was on general release its about teenage girls in Liverpool ,and their world. Apart from that I loved the film Tom Jones from the book of the same name -very quirky.

Anyone else sensitive to noise?
jacpod comments on May 3, 2018:
Absolutely I have hyperacusis which means i have some hearing loss at the lower levels so when noise does kick in for me - its painfully loud .I find i have to wear ear plugs and ear defenders in my local supermarket as they have the radio on super loud and also people here in N.I are very loud I think it comes from working in the peat bogs, forestry, etc and shouting to each other across long distances.
Why to call yourself "Atheist" instead of "Agnostic."
