What do we all have in common as humans?
jacpod comments on Apr 4, 2018:
There is a game that used to be played in personal growth circles where you have a large number of people and call out somethign like 'who is a paren't' come this way and 'who isnt go the other way ' so you divide into groups according to the separating categories and then each group divides again until you are all standing, singly, separately, and then the queston is" what would bring us all back together?" I loved it because it was so good to see the group movement .And the intimate togetherness was apparent even before the groups examination of itself. I think what he have in common is our humanity - when we see someone in danger often your own life chances are risked in order to save them - something kicks in - you dont stand idly by.

As a relaxed agnostic, I am in the "ignorant and apathetic" camp - I don't know, and I don't care.

Now all is changed and I am feeling quite frail even though I go out in all weathers and garden, saw wood, carry big loads of fertiliser around - I dont know what made hte change into unconfident and even though I still do these things I dont feel 'strong' - I dont have to push myself to start but i do have to push myself to finish.
Proof of no god?
jacpod comments on Apr 3, 2018:
there is no 'it' to state anything, there is no, anything, to be stated there is no 'christianity' only people who call themselves christians and worrship their god - there is no body of christianity that speaks in one voice - there is no science that can make something that doesnt exist; exist so that you can square the circle that you have made. I think your choice therefore to remain a sceptic is a good one- as for the proof there are 320,000,000 gods in the world would they all need to be proved to you ? Or are you only talking about the Christian god?

I don't know much about wicca. What is the main thrust of wiccan ideology
jacpod comments on Apr 3, 2018:
I used ot live in Burnley Lancashire where the last witched to be hanged at Lancaster assizes lived - It was said that they were actually not quite the full shilling and were given the opportunity to recant but didnt Two of the accused witches, Anne Whittle (Chattox) and her daughter Anne Redferne. The trials of the Pendle witches in 1612 are among the most famous witch trials in English history, and some of the best recorded of the 17th century. The twelve accused lived in the area surrounding Pendle Hill in Lancashire, and were charged with the murders of ten people by the use of witchcraft. All but two were tried at Lancaster Assizes on 18–19 August 1612, along with the Samlesbury witches and others, in a series of trials that have become known as the Lancashire witch trials. One was tried at York Assizes on 27 July 1612, and another died in prison. Of the eleven who went to trial – nine women and two men – ten were found guilty and executed by hanging; one was found not guilty. The official publication of the proceedings by the clerk to the court, Thomas Potts, in his The Wonderfull Discoverie of Witches in the Countie of Lancaster, and the number of witches hanged together – nine at Lancaster and one at York – make the trials unusual for England at that time. It has been estimated that all the English witch trials between the early 15th and early 18th centuries resulted in fewer than 500 executions; this series of trials accounts for more than two per cent of that total. Six of the Pendle witches came from one of two families, each at the time headed by a woman in her eighties: Elizabeth Southerns (a.k.a. Demdike[a]), her daughter Elizabeth Device, and her grandchildren James and Alizon Device; Anne Whittle (a.k.a. Chattox), and her daughter Anne Redferne. The others accused were Jane Bulcock and her son John Bulcock, Alice Nutter, Katherine Hewitt, Alice Grey, and Jennet Preston. The outbreaks of witchcraft in and around Pendle may demonstrate the extent to which people could make a living by posing as witches. Many of the allegations resulted from accusations that members of the Demdike and Chattox families made against each other, perhaps because they were in competition, both trying to make a living from healing, begging, and extortion.

Incest: Immoral or Moral?
jacpod comments on Apr 2, 2018:
when my mother was a teenager she fell in love with her own brother but didnt know he was her brother my grandmother had given him to her mother to look after as apparently in those days it was often done espcially if there were already another baby on the way . Charlie, the brother had come back to my granny as a teenager because the grandmother had died - No-one told my mother that Charlie was her brother until things started getting out of hand - I imagine family secrets like this one are hard for the family to contain and or deal with and that when the truth does come out its uncomfortable for everyone. I suppose safe sex isnt always safe as it sounds and isnt good for the family gene pool- I really dont think its a christian influence as most people would be concerned about the genetic defects from close alliances.

jacpod comments on Apr 2, 2018:
To be honest theists havent had any good arguments with me They only have a few shots to fire like 'the weeping for me because I am going to die in hellfire and damnation" But I have a stony face for it these days and just dont play my hand - they give up at some point - if I just stare blankly people around will often weigh in to get them to leave me alone as well.

I think I understand what he's getting at though because of the way men are portrayed as both strong and also weak - Women ae too but I think that men do get a tougher message - when I was at school it was never okay for a boy to cry even when caned and girls werent caned in those days .A lot of messages there and even popular songs carry them on as if it isnt enough just to be a human and be yourself. I do think men from a certain time had a bad deal.

Age and culture No, because as long as you are alert and interested in others ,no problem. I think educational background is the widest gap to bridge mainly because going through the systems you get so many different 'languages'. I mean that for instance I have never had any sort of background in mathematics or logic etc and couldnt easily connect to someone of that ilk. In the same way there are many many people who come on a person centred counselling training course and never get it ( In my experience teachers are especially unable to disconnect enough from their teaching style in order to get different skills).

I like the full range pick and mix for whatever I am feeling I have found in art in all its forms that comparisons are unhelpful I think it all depends upon where you are within yourself what you reach for - Its just so great the the full platter of emotions is available. Added bit I lived in communes and we visited each other groups one was Laurieston hall a massive castle of a place in Scotland and a friend of mine living there used the giant bowed sweeping staricase to add a picture she made and posted it up every day of what sort of mood she was in so that people would understand - and either approach her or not depending on thier take on the colours and forms etc.

I'm probably not the right person to ask so feel free to disregard me .I was a person centred therapist of the Carl Rogers variety and for me that is the most respectful approach I have come across because it is the client who is always in control -It is based on warmth congruence and empathy takes longer than other approaches because its at the pace of the client - and there are no homeworks or forms to fill in each week just a relationship - where the therapist is feeding you back to yourself and letting you question for yourself what changes are taking place and how you might cope with them.

i was just wondering if those people who produced those works of art were actually doing it for the greater glory of god or if it werw always a very human endeavour to create something beautiful and different - They might very well have been killed for blasphemy if it had been known that they were nt truly engaged in gods works but their own. Singing in spaces that enhance beautiful sounds is a lovely pastime why would we assume their motives - just becaise teh church had a straglehold on just about every aspect of life didnt mean that people even knew their own true motives for creating beauty as they saw it .
