when you felt in the washing machine you have to pull the wool out with carders , then when htey are soft arrange in layers first vertical then horizontal till you have a thick pile pour on boiling water an dwork gently with your hands to get the fibres to slightly felt, sheeps wool has will felt easily because there is no direction in the bracts, but you need the fleece to be of longish fibres not the short bits round the tail -put the matted fibres between two layer s of cloth muslin sandwich is good and sew roughly through all the layers throw in a hot wash with soap powder - Its a rough guide try a sample first to see how you go.
What moral code do you follow now that you are non-religious?
jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
I was always non religious - I like the 'if it harm none do as you will' code - I practise kindness and am non apologetic about my anger which i see as a positive force for change - I was/am a Rogerian person centred therapist and that seems a kind way to be with others - not the theraping, but the underlying sense of being with someone, listening ,with warmth, congruence and empathy

jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
My atheism rarely impacts on my social life even though I live in the hotspot of Northern Ireland . I dont continuosuly put my athieism at the forefront of my life it is absolutely of no consequence to me. Maybe if I had been religious and had a struggle to give it up it would have been different but theism has never been part of my life . When I first came here I was baffled by people asking my partner three questions - (You only need three to find out if someone is protestant or catholic) - No one was in the least bothered to ask me the three questions because I was English and so didn't count .I dont have a belief so church dogma cannot touch me and I certainly would nt proseletyse atheism what would that give me? I believe in nothing except death and taxes. I might be interested in what other peopel believe as an academic exercise but its very uninteresting to be the negative of that, how would you talk about an unbelief?

What is one thing about your spouse or girl/boyfriend that is a source of pride?
jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
We have a word in Ireland that is 'throughother' it describes me, I am a bit scattered - However I do all the laundry, cooking and cleaning in both our flats and and really love my roles - I love gardening too - I only get to see my partner at lunchtime for an hour in the and evening for watching T.V together. Although sometimes we have joint projects, mainly we work at our own stuff alone and it is a good system for us. I have a first in fine and applied art as well, though I have slowed down a lot and cant work with heavy stuff so much now. I think I am proud of my partners beautiful mind he has a unique way of thinking that is so straight and direct - I once invented a mobile that was run on a motor and it couldnt work ii had a design flaw he could see it instantly but he couldnt get me to understand it wouldnt work. in the end he just said "It needs a skyhook"
How to facilitate a close and meaningful relationship with Christian siblings
jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
Time ususlaly helps people usually soften rather than harden especially if oyu have had good relationships in the past - very few of us cope well with change especially in well established patterns so maybe you can reconnect with the things that you were always stronger on - maybe playfulness or whatever your family thing was outside the god question.
Agnostic and atheist are part of entirely different dichotomies. Words have meanings!
jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
I think that this chart is missing the words - 'At This time' - All that matters to me 'at this time is that my entire 70 year old life life has been lived very happily without a god' -I dont need to talk about it I dont need charts around words, just 'no god here.' Its totally simple and also totally personal - I find that there is nothing to say - its about as interesting to me as me saying I havent ever used an umbrella (True but pointless). Everyone on this site hasnt a god, why would i need a diagram for that or an explanation about words 'No God' job done! this site is called Agnostic .com, suits me, atheist also suits me but whichever way you cut it just no god does the trick.

Fear, is it a motivator in your life?
jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
I quite like fear as I imagine it to be the precursor to anger - anger is the only feeling that leads directly to action - Since someone told me this a long time ago- "If someone si standing on your foot fear won't get them off sadness won't get them off happiness won't get them off only anger will get them off. Now when I feel fear I push anger up quicker than I would have before I don't mean rip roaring anger just the only feeling that promotes change
Why do people hate very nice people like atheists?
jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
In Ireland years ago the Protestants were stricter and had to stay in Sunday Best all day reading the bible - if it was a Sunny Sunday at harvest time the Catholics could get out after mass and get in the hay. probably why we have all this hating goign on now still.
Why do people hate very nice people like atheists?
jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
People usually 'hate' on others because they imagining that that person has something that they themselves by rights should really have - (maybe self confidence/whatever ) because it can be very edgy being a believer. I am not always nice but I am always apologetic after a row.
How do you feel about talking openly about athiesm
jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
I have some sympathy with him he sounds fed up with talking about 'what is not' rather than what is 'here and now '- However he probably needs to know that not everyone is in the same space as him and might need to chew on it a bt longer. I think it takes some of us who have been inculcated - longer to reach a god-free zone in our head - I have never had a god so I think its of little or no value to talk, unless someone else has that need
I've been thinking about things, which is always dangerous.

Should I attend a wedding at church as an atheist?
jacpod comments on Mar 10, 2018:
Should and Ought s are incredibly slippery articles, I go into churches withot feeling that I am betraying my principles -I tend to base myself around the idea of love, and for me going to my daughters wedding would be where I relax my principles but seriously its your call

When did you start to identify as an atheist/agnostic?
jacpod comments on Mar 9, 2018:
I always knew from four years old, that it was a story and not a very good one at that - I was read really good stories and learned to read for myself really easily - I didnt know the word for it till I was fairly old about fourteen I went on a CND rally with my best friend and there were lots of older teens there who pretty much filled us in on everything we needed to know

jacpod comments on Mar 8, 2018:
I think the answer to this is that they are not thinking they are just putting out that which was dinned into them; not everyone is able to change a lifetimes habits - try to find another emotion when this happens like imagining oyu are in a warm bath or coccon and nothing can get to you because you are looking after yourself
Would life be easier if their was a god?
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
No, for me I don't think so, because that god would always be the main focus because of past writings and I think/feel that I want to be at the centre of my own life without deferring to a power that wants / needs, to be higher - I want to make my own mistakes and get my own learning from them, I don't want to give out to an invisible person pulling my strings. It might be easier but would it be more worthwhile?
Your version of a Healthy Relationship?

Is morality based in nature or nurture?
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
I was given one sense of 'right' and 'wrong' by my parents (who were both godless)- I have since modified their version and am probably more intense about living ethically than they would have been. I buy second hand books from charity shops read them and take them back for resale etc. I do what I can to give back something to the community I live in.
Dawkins or Hitchens?
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
I have just looked at a set of the most awful atheist books on facebook and wouldnt read any of them - Why? Why would I? read a whole book about something that has never ever been real to me. I don't need proof that god doesnt exist as no god exists for me right now ,and I am at the centre of my own universe.

Do you feel that letting others know you're an atheist hurts your chances of getting work?
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
Absolutely, Northern Ireland is very divided religion wise and I am English so obviously a heathen. If I wasnt retired now, it would be hard for me to get a job. I went to an interview for a job as a Counsellor/Lecturer in Counsellng. I have a degree in counselling, trained as a TA therapist, trained as a Person Centred Creative Expressive Therapist with Natalie Rogers in California I was joint head of Person Centred Creative Expressive Therapy in England and the panel decided to employ a nurse with no relevant qualifications. Every Interview I went to they changed the goalposts to favour one of their own/known.
Too complicated?
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
I have a fairly simple life - now - I have been here in Northern Ireland for about 25 years - Its a slower pace mainly and I think because I don't really fit in, that it is helpful to me _ I don't have desires for much of what money can buy- I live simply and enjoy what I have - I love my old clothes and love knitting teddy bears and blankets for children - I havent always been simple but now at this point in my life I enjoy it.
If applicable, how did you quit smoking?
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
I was 24 with children of four and five y.o and my husband left me, ending our marriage , to go work with his mates in Germany - I had to pay the mortgage on the house we had bought so got people in to take rooms - it was the hippie era and lots of people came to the house - I was pretty weird then because I didnt know if I could cope and someone handed me a cigarette - It worked- I smoked for nearly a year and hten stopped - just like that - I didnt need it any more I had no after effects no yearnings, no nothing. I havent had one since.
Lots of friends. Or, just a few? What suits you?
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
I am not sure that I am close to anyone, any more, apart from my partner. It hasnt bothered me at all so no big deal - there are people I love the bones of - who live in my sheltered housing scheme. Because my society is on such a mess (Theresa May)(Brexit) I feel that we are as a Country are going to pot . I can't see our future without Europe. Its all too messy and inadequate and underinformed so I have put myself on hte back burner for now.

How do people become brainwashed?
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
I remember going to a seminar once and not realising that it was a sort of religious event and they were trying in different ways to get people away from their families saying that relationship wasnt a good thing! they were coming round and choosing people separtaing them from the herd and having chosen and unchosen groups -I'm still hazy about it (so maybe I was brainwashed) no it was a long time ago and I was pretty young at the time.
Where do you stand on education in Liberal Arts?
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
Love it I think its necessary to be a roudned individual -(my take)
My Philosophy about life is that we should be journey oriented and not goal oriented.
jacpod comments on Mar 7, 2018:
My philosophy on life has changed as my society has changed and all is not well; people used to care about each other say 'good morning -good eveing 'watch out for children, now there is too much apathy like the Russians living in a post truth society - My society is not what it could be and I am deeply ashamed of it. (BTW I don't do shoulds and oughts or we's)

Fear. What is it?
jacpod comments on Mar 6, 2018:
I think fear can be positive - like a pop up for a caution - it also promotes some adrenaline so that you have something in you for fight or flight - If there is nothing to really fear its good to give yourself a good shake or run on the spot for a little while and pump your arms because adrenaline is mostly in your arms and legs - giving them a bit of a work out ususally stops the fearfullness' if you frighten yourself with events that may or may not happen I think the remedy is the same just run round the block - laughing helps as well you can start by chortling then it take sover and you can belly laugh after a bit that mostly works too.
Fear of Hell
jacpod comments on Mar 6, 2018:
Truly sorry to hear that -sounds like one of the after effects of coming off the drug, I wasnt ever religious so I really don't know what you are truly going through but I do wish you well , and hope that you get some help. I have a sense form soem of teh other things that I have gone through that its true, time heals, give yourself an easy ride for a bit and when those feelings come try talking back to them soothingly - 'ssshh - all will be well!'
Do you as an individual feel that you make a difference in politics?
jacpod comments on Mar 6, 2018:
I seem to be signing a lot of stuff on facebook - petitions but havent much trust in my community any more - I feel that we are getting royally stuffed and nothing to do about it. My Prime Minister seems totally useless and the cabinet is out of ideas and just blundering around. Brexit was a disaster an uninformed vote . I give up we seem to have entered the post truth society. More facebook posts than you can shake a stick at.
Gardeners, are you getting excited?
jacpod comments on Mar 6, 2018:
You must live somewhere warmer than me - I looked at the weather map today in the newspaper and the only place in the U.K . With a black cloud above it, was Ballycastle where I live 2 minutes from the sea . Also the hurricane shifted all the sand on the beach onto the tennis courts and bowling green, that looked quite funny really but its still seriously freezing up here. I will get excited soon as I can - keen gardener here.

So world Peace Goodwill to all.
If you are atheist, what information led you to this?
jacpod comments on Mar 6, 2018:
None, I never was a, Theist. Didnt grow up in any religion and have never wanted or needed one, It doesnt bother me at all to walk into a church to have a look, there is a lovely little place in Eyam that was the plague village - In 1665 a wandering journeyman was carrying bolts of cloth from London to Derbyshire during the bubonic plague and the fleas were in the roll of material. he stopped at Eyam and the village decided once the plague had taken hold there -to just contain it They had a large stone at the village boundary with a dip in it they filled with vinegar so that they could buy stuff without spreading the plague. 260 out of 350 inhabitants died but their voluntary sacrifice saved the North of England from succumbing. It is kept just as it was and htere are plaques on the houses with the names of who died there.

How do I stop my negative self-talk?
jacpod comments on Mar 6, 2018:
Sweetie, your posts are very well put, and intelligent - I seriously love the way you come accross , gentle and kind - One of the things I like to tell myself every now and then is "What other people think and feel about me is none of my business!" there will always be people out there who feel the need to put us down because they feel threatened in some way by innocence and beauty they cannot find within themselves, but we all have to find our own way out of that mire - Consider that the people who are putting you down are only trying to put themselves up by using that technique. Ignore the pinpricks and see if you can getover them a bit faster each day - shoulder shrugging might work as if youre brushing off the unkindness. 'Nolite bastardes carborundorum'

I think the biggest warty bit is my Dissociative Identity Disorder. I thnk I have a kindliness in me I am not often sharp with people, have a soft probably little girl voice even though I am soon to be seventy. I was a baby boomer - I am a life long Anarchist though not a violent one - In my youth I was a campaigner for C.N.D and went on the first march from London to Aldermaston at 14 yrs old. I was a Saturday girl in a posh shop in Regents street for Horsey elderly women and loved Biba and Mary Quant - I worked full time in laboratories - flour, cheese - beer and cosmetics . I have travelled to Spain France Belgium America Greece Germany China and speak a very little of each language - America frightened me witless it was too big- everything in the U.S was too big. My name is French and I am descended from Huguenots way way back. Was born in South East London of true Cockney family (I am the only one in hteh family not born within the sound of Bow Bells. I have two children a daughter just turnin fifty and a son who is 49.Divorced once separated amicably second time now in long term relationship with Irish man 25+ yrs . I get terribly upset with the state of the world at present and find my society quite hard to cope with - Everything seems so unkind - Donald Trump - Theresa May...... words fail me - people dying from sleeping out in the cold the grenfell tower block fire where nothing seems to be done or not enough - homeless people . I find my government -disgusting and just wrong.

If you had an unlimited supply of money how would you spend it?
jacpod comments on Mar 6, 2018:
I am seriously awful with money, I can't spend it, I'm not tight, you can get it off me - there is just nothing I want. I love all my 'old ' clothes and constantly mend them - I went to a free school when I was a child and didn't elect to do any maths, so money is adding and subtracting and my poor auld head goes into melt down - I only cope by being given lots of change and holding it out in the shops.
There seems like a lot of wonder about meeting people.
jacpod comments on Mar 6, 2018:
Strangely I feel more connected to people at a distance, in writing, there is such a fondness in me for what people write, I feel all humble,, humanity is here - when my mother and father's sister were of an age they wrote letters to each other and my mother who was manic was very tender in her writing and they had a sweet relationship, later my cousin was in her dying process and she and I wrote tenderly and there is soemthing about the slowness of the process of writing that engages my brain - I don't just fire off - I think about what I am saying.I also don't write unless I am in a good place .
If you were given the option to direct your own TV show, what would it be about?
jacpod comments on Mar 5, 2018:
I'd like to direct a show that allowed people to find the way - with help, to be the very best of themselves; so not competitive, and not chance; but finding out how they really wanted to be for themselves and how they wanted to be seen by others in their world . I'd want people to be very open and honest about - Like a personality makeover that could just be tried to see if it fit - I wouldnt put a time limit on it so some contestants would take a shorter time and others a longer time to reach their target and it would be okay if getting there wasnt the thrill it seemed to be and they decided to stay as they were maybe just a little change by being 'seen'.
What word(s) do you never want to apply to you?
jacpod comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Ignorant - I think though that it has two meanings; here we say 'pig-ignorant' meaning an ignorant boor; The other ignorant is just not knowing e.g. I am ignorant of the facts of how other people might be suffering. I don't mind being the second one.

Did you grow up with religion?
jacpod comments on Mar 5, 2018:
No - I am quite happy with "absence of" all things religious I was never brought up in any faith - I don't feel any lack of anything and I'm quite happy with my life, I think finding out about the religiosity out there in the wide world is interesting - I feel as moral as the next person and don't judge anyone negatively who has a god its just a non subject really that only comes up when soemoen else brings it up but I do like this site and the people on it.
“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books.
jacpod comments on Mar 5, 2018:
During the nazi regime books were banned and burnt I am not sure why I just thought this but there is a practise of outlawing books in case they turn peoples heads and maybe start a revolution.I remember a true story about a book that was banned because men unrequited in love started to fantasise about dying for love and there was an epidemic of suicides that followed will try to source this. For me books are powerful.
Separation of Atheism and agnosticism
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
All I can say is that at any moment in my whole life I have not had a god figuring anywhere in my life. Cut it where you like - no god - It doesnt matter to me how ,You, interpret the words atheist or agnostic, both of them mean to me that I have never had a god and never will have one, unless on reaching 70 in April I go a bit doo-lally. I am not interested in picking over words I could just keep repeating NGY (No god yet)
As an agnostic/atheist, do you feel you actually have better morals than a christian?
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
No I have a morality they have a morality , the fact that we differ is no surprise because we were probably brought up differently - I think we are just people and as long as we keep our 'beliefs' to ourselves apart from places like here, where they are welcome we will thrive.
Unexplained Religious Experiences
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
When I was younger my mother wanted to take me to a spiritualist church as that was her thing, we made a mistake and ended up at a pentecostal church it was amazing - 'hallelujah praise the lord' Given that I have never ever had a religious bone in my body I found it all quite eye opening in that there was something like mass hysteria going on - and didnt realise that people could work themselves up into an altered state. I'm sort of glad I went and found that because it taught me what to avoid.
Are you fulfilled?
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
Yes on the whole and I am 70 and have had a full life; so okay to take it a bit easier now. I am pretty sure someone will pop up for you at some time if that is what you are wanting, it might help to join something, where you have an interest and can meet people casually and dip a toe in the water and be able to take it out again. let it be known the idea of just having fun no strings attached and then you can take your time and still have a bit of fun.
Is it true that there is always an explanation?
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
Probably but most possibly, not one that I wouldnt understand.
Is anyone doing anything cool for St. Patrick's Day?
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
Could nip over the border to Southern Ireland, one last time, while its still free before it becomes a hard border again beacuse of our Brexit problems.

Co Dependancy?
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
Yes and even though its a sop - time really does heal; every day the pain is a little less extreme; until one day you wake up and miss her and feel quite a lot better - a good thing to do is immerse yourself in the next learning opportunity that comes your way, try a new skill and keep as busy as you can.
What is the most uplifting thing happening in the world right now? What is the most tragic thing?
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
Israel /Palestine most tragic (for me, being English and responsible) Most uplifting is the school children in the U.S demonstrating for their lives, and so much wisdom shown by them- (I won't even mention the T word )
Does anyone else have abandonment issues?
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
My parents were mentally unwell and abusive and as a small child I always thought that the fairies might come and take me away,as I thought that I was a changeling child and somewhere my true parents were grieving for me. I think leaving home at 15 y.o and my subsequent lifestlye, being in the communes movement and then getting ,yself into uni - becoming a lecturer in person centred counselling helped me heal a lot . I still have wobbles nad probably always will but at least I am swimming not drowning .

Do you believe in karma? reincarnation??
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
No - I think as its soemthing we say after the event like "Ah so they got their comeuppance at last" that its not valid to count it in some people just seem to be able to squeeze past all the problematic bits - When I am dead I am counting on staying dead I don't want to go thorugh this drama another time.
Why do we support Israel, to the point of insanity?
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I havent a baldie, I wish I did, it seems that they don't have any compassion for the rest of the non jewish world. no concept of live and let live - and 'love your neighbour as yourself' was the specific commandment to them from Mount Sinai? No? I must say I havent a religious bone in my body and I don't care what any body believes in - but the state of Israel really gets to me.
We had a now-not-a-member get pretty mean with their adversity to meds.
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I wouldn't be here without meds.
Mental illness brings so many emotions into the mix. What do you feel?
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I was five and a half stone at one point and my therapist gave me a dogs chance and said she wouldnt report me if I started to put some weight on - I think it was realising that someone actually cared that helped me put on some weight - I loved her and didnt want to let her down and then realised that I had actually done it for myself that I really did exist in the world
I was having a conversation with my niece last night about a parasitic friend that my sister can't...
jacpod comments on Mar 4, 2018:
Good on you for catching yourself on, I had toxic mentally unwell parents and seem to have been in a better position than my brother who went very strange and isolated himself - I always thought that I didnt fit in anywhere -everybody I knew called me 'that strange child' but I found someoen like me with a similar story and like a three legged race we seem to stumble around but at least there is some love and less craziness now (now I am 70)
How many of you are able to maintain good friendships with people of differing opinions and politics...
jacpod comments on Mar 3, 2018:
I may well be the only 'out' atheist in Northern Ireland - only joking but it seems that way sometimes - I can cope up to a certain level and then, if it starts to get too much I sort of run away - Like saying "Oh! is that the time I really must dash! Dinner to cook!" I don't feel the need to be cutting because at the end of the day it only really matters to me what I think of myself. I have friends here though and they tease me by saying things like "And what does our wee atheist think of that then?" Other countries, Other customs - No one in England where I am from has ever asked me about my religion.
Fear, is it a motivator in your life?
jacpod comments on Mar 3, 2018:
I knew someone once who was a photographer in war zones - he literally had no fear - seriously it was missing in him, consequently he never knew if he was in some way using or harming the people he was capturing on film - So I am thinking maybe fear is a necessary feeling to keep us grounded - I think that growing up I feared being hurt by others now I am old I mostly fear hurting others
How much do you admit to being guilty?
jacpod comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Probably depends what I did - I have never formally been charged by the police so I guess we are into the small stuff. If I have done somethign bad on someone I do admit my stupidity apologise and try to make amends. But if its a silly row between me and one other I may well flounce off - As I write that I feel a bit silly being seventy and still flouncing off. But I don't hold a grudge.
What's the next fun thing you plan to do?
jacpod comments on Mar 3, 2018:
