I'm a retired software engineer, divorced for 10 years or so, with one grown daughter who lives back in NY. I was raised Jewish, rejected that (the religion not the culture), and lived most of my life as an atheist. I’ve developed a serious Buddhist practice over the last few years and spend a fair amount of time on meditation and Buddhist studies.

I’m pretty liberal and would avoid getting involved with anyone who is into conservative religion or politics. Being a Trump supporter is an absolute deal-breaker for me.

When I became President Iran was making trouble all over the Middle East, and beyond. Since ending the terrible Iran Nuclear Deal, they are MUCH different, but.... ....a source of potential danger and conflict. They are testing Rockets (last week) and more, and are coming very close to the edge. There economy is now crashing, which is the only thing holding them back. Be careful of Iran. Perhaps Intelligence should go back to school!

They claim it's religion neutral but is clearly intended to bring Christian brain-washing into the public schools: "The American Civil Liberties Union blasted both the attempt to infuse Bible literacy courses in pubic schools and Trump’s support of it. Its concern is that, notwithstanding Fitschen’s self-proclaimed commitment to religious neutrality, in practice the courses could, at least in some states, amount to a form of Christian evangelism. “Yet again, President Trump is exploiting religious divisions to score political points. Public school Bible courses are rarely taught neutrally and objectively as required by the Constitution,” Daniel Mach, director of the ACLU Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief, told Yahoo News in an email. “Instead, these courses usually resemble Sunday school classes that blatantly violate students’ and parents’ First Amendment rights. Religious education is best left to families and faith communities, not public school officials.”

In addition to that, government research has shown that lowering the average temperature in your home by 1 degree can save up to 10% on your heating bills. In other words: putting on a jumper allows you to set the thermostat at a lower temperature and can save you over a $150 per year on your average heating bill. Buddhism arose in an Hindu culture which has lots of gods, but Buddhism itself does not have a creator god. Buddha is considered a human being with all the associated frailties. Buddhist communities in the West generally accommodate people with varying religious backgrounds, often suggesting it be thought of as a practice rather than a religion. OTOH people with strong religious beliefs will probably not be comfortable in Buddhist communities especially if they're inclined to proselytize. So in short, Buddhists generally do not believe in god.
