With my daughter 2017

I'm a retired software engineer, divorced for 10 years or so, with one grown daughter who lives back in NY. I was raised Jewish, rejected that (the religion not the culture), and lived most of my life as an atheist. I’ve developed a serious Buddhist practice over the last few years and spend a fair amount of time on meditation and Buddhist studies.

I’m pretty liberal and would avoid getting involved with anyone who is into conservative religion or politics. Being a Trump supporter is an absolute deal-breaker for me.

Here it is. Outrageous! Updated: NIH says cancer study also hit by fetal tissue ban By Meredith WadmanDec. 13, 2018 , 11:45 AM *Update, 13 December, 11:45 a.m.: A third laboratory at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is also affected by the agency’s temporary ban on acquiring new human fetal tissue, an agency spokesperson confirmed last night. Initially, NIH said only research projects run by staff scientists at the National Eye Institute (NEI) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) would be affected. The third laboratory is at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), which is pursuing a “project on cancer immunotherapy, which will need tissue by January 31,” the agency said in a statement. “We are determining appropriate next steps to obtain tissue so that the NIAID project can begin and to avoid interruption of the NCI project. NEI does not have an immediate need to procure new fetal tissue (they have frozen stores).” Here is our story from 7 December: U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has ordered scientists employed by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) to stop acquiring new human fetal tissue for experiments, ScienceInsider has learned. The suspension, imposed this past September without a public announcement, came as the government launched a review of all fetal tissue research funded by the federal government. The pause affects two laboratories run by the Bethesda, Maryland–based agency, NIH officials say. In one case, it disrupted a study probing how the virus that causes AIDS initially colonizes human tissues. Gotta love Tuesday ;)
jerry99 comments on Dec 25, 2018:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuesday The name Tuesday derives from the Old English "Tiwesdæg" and literally means "Tiw's Day". Tiw is the Old English form of the Proto-Germanic god Tîwaz, or Týr in Old Norse. Tîwaz derives from the Proto-Indo-European base dei-, deya-, didya-, meaning 'to shine', whence comes also such words as "deity". So we're honoring an ancient Norse god instead of an ancient Christian god. Okay.

Here's a little perspective on the subject: Somewhere between a second and a millennium from now, you will die. Your body and all of its parts will cease functioning and rejoin the Earth as regular, lifeless stuff. The Earth, too, will die, engulfed by an expanding, aging Sun. The Sun will burn off all of its fuel and end up a white dwarf, then burn out and die. The Milky Way will collide with nearby Andromeda, and form a large, elliptical galaxy, which will die by losing all of its stars to intergalactic space. The corpses of those remaining stars will die, decaying into their constituent parts. The universe will age onward until all matter is either stored in black holes or floating as free elementary particles. Those black holes will evaporate, and the universe will die. All that was will be an icy cold nothing, forever. https://gizmodo.com/how-the-universe-ends-1829694851
