mcgeo52 replies on Oct 1, 2019:
@silverotter11, the ones who are up for re-election in tight races don't dare support Trump if the House has produced the evidence against him. And it may not even get to the Senate. Nixon resigned before the House voted. At least two significant newspapers have already called for Trump to resign. One is in St. Louis and the other in Connecticut. Interestingly, the one in Connecticut is a Hearst paper. Then there is Fox News. I am hearing that inside Fox it is currently a "Category 3 shitstorn" with a fight between news and commentators over whether or not to dump Trump. Paul Ryan recently joined the board at Fox and he is firmly in the dumpTrump camp. If Trump loses Fox there is no way he survives a Senate vote. At that point he will probably resign.
No obstruction?

Sure, he is legally obligated to conduct a trial, but that doesn't mean it has to be thorough. He can rush it along to the inevitable acquittal. It's unfortunate our founding fathers never imagined a party being this corrupt across all three branches. So much for checks and balances.

Once the Articles of Impeachment arrive from the House there isn't anything McCornhole can do except vote to convict or acquit. The Rules of the Senate say the trial has to start the next day and Chief Justice Roberts will preside.

@BitFlipper and @silverotter11, it is the job of the House to impeach (i.e., charge with crimes) and of the Senate to hear the case and decide the verdict. The Rules of the Senate require that the trial begin the afternoon of the day following delivery of the Articles of Impeachment by the House. The rules also provide that the trial is presided over by the Chief Justice, not the Majority Leader. McConnell will have no control over the length of the trial or what is heard. On the other hand, Pelosi does have a great deal of say in which articles are included, and each article has to be heard and voted on. BTW, it looks like McCornhole doesn't have anywhere near enough votes to change the rules.

@Happy_Killbot, a small minority of the middle class are moving up. The rest are moving down or barely holding their own. Your statement, " We don't need a strong middle class, we need an expanded upper class," demonstrates a fundamental ignorance of economic reality and math. By definition the upper class is limited a certain top percentile of the population. The number can vary depending on who you talk to, but if it's over 20% tops you are starting to talk about the middle class. The middle class is the engine that drives the economy. The lower class cannot afford to spend enough to do the job. The rich do not spend enough to do the job for two reasons: 1) By definition there are are not enough of them. 2) They spend a far smaller percentage of their income/wealth than the middle class does. In case you still don't get it, let me try to explain. Take 100 people at random and rank them by the amount of money they have. If your sample was truly random a graph of the results would result in a bell curve. Let's call the bottom 20 the lower class, the next 60% the middle class, and the top 20% the upper class. The lower class will spend the absolute minimum because it is all they can afford. Say on average they each spend $5 per day. They contribute $100 per day to the economy. The upper class can afford to spend much more, and does so. Let's say that on average they spend $500 per day. While the have the money to spend more, they still only eat three meals a day. Plus we are talking about an average amount; someone at the 81st percentile is not buying a new jet or a new yacht every year. They contribute $10, 000 per day to the economy. The middle class probably only spends an average of $250 per day. That works out to $30,000 per day that they add to the economy. Total this up and you get: $100 - lower class $45,000 - middle class $10,000 - upper class $55,100 - total That is a fairly functional economy. If you gut the middle class, you end up with far less of that $30,000 per day. Functionally over the last four decades, thanks to Reaganomics, we have distorted the curve. While we have moved (maybe, and this is being very generous) 25% of the middle class (i.e., 15 people) up to where they are spending $500 per day, we have moved 50% (i.e., 30 people) down to where they are spending only $100 per day. Let's look at the total now: $100 - lower class $3,000 - 50% of middle class that has moved down (30x$100) $3,750 - 25% of the middle class that has not moved (15x$250) $7,500 - 25% of the middle class that has moved up (15x$500) $10,000 - upper class $24,350 - total I know that you may argue that the upper class will invest their wealth in business that create jobs. But that argument is patently stupid. The rich invest in order to make ...

@Happy_Killbot, if you are trying to make a capitalist system work in a consumer economy, the ideal distribution works to put sufficient money into the hands of the consumers. If you want a strong economy you need to have a strong middle class. That was what we had prior to Reaganomics. Destroying the middle class has put more money in the hands of the extremely wealthy at the risk of the economy. It's time for the rest of us to fight back against the monied interest.

mcgeo52 replies on Sep 24, 2019:
@IamNobody, nothing goes faster than the speed of light. The speed of light squared is the acceleration to be factored into the classic physics formula, F=MA where Force = Mass times Acceleration. Obviously c squared, which is not c by a factor of two (i.e., c times 2), but rater c times c, is a humongous number. When you multiply it by something as small as the mass of an atom (the m in Einstein's equation, factored in as the M in F+MA), you still have a huge af number for the e (which is the Force in F=MA). In other words, splitting an atom and breaking the atomic bond releases an almost incomprehensible amount of energy.

I don't buy it. The Democrats have run a centrist candidate in every election since McGovern lost in '72. McGovern lost to an incumbent with a strong economy. It was a given he would lose. It's not a legit excuse to not run a progressive candidate. Since McGovern, we have had 11 Presidential elections. Which ones have the Democrats won? • 1976 against Ford. They could have run their most radical progressive against the disgraced Republicans and probably won. • 1992 against GHW Bush and a tanked economy. Again, they could have run their most radical progressive and probably have won. • 1996 they won with an incumbent and a strong economy. • 2008 they won against the party that had tanked the economy. The fact that they did it with a black junior Senator says they could have probably run their most radical progressive and won. • 2012 they won with an incumbent and a strong economy. The Democrats have managed to elect Carter, Clinton and Obama in elections they would have had to try hard to lose. The Republicans did not run to the center with any of their candidates. What has that cost them? As I said, with all due respect to your father, I don't buy it. BTW, all of the post election polls showed that Bernie would have beaten Trump.

@Paul4747, I never said that the planes had to hit an exact floor on either tower. I am saying that all three towers were rigged for demolition. Yes, it was an inside job that required the cooperation of the owner of the towers, and the company responsible for the security of the towers. Why would Larry Silverstein want his towers demolished? 1) They were in need of renovation but, because of all of the asbestos used in their construction, that would have been cost prohibitive. 2) They were fully insured, so he would get the money when they came down. They were actually doubly insured against a terrorist attack, and he was paid double. Why would the security company cooperate? 1) Silverstein told them to. 2) The owners of the company were in on the deal for their own reasons. Securacom, as the company was then known, was backed by the Kuwait-American Corp. The managing director at KuwAm, Wirt D. Walker III, was also a principal at Securacom, and Walker and Marvin Bush and are listed in SEC filings as significant shareholders in both companies during that period. In case you don't recognize those two names, Marvin Bush is W's younger brother and Wirt (his nickname for Herbert) Walker was his cousin. Through their holdings in defense contractors, the Bush/Walker family profited immensely from the two wars we were lied into based on 9/11. Call me a cynic, but when the money trail lines up that well with the physical evidence, I know what I am going to believe. Speaking of the money trail, there was also the matter of the $2.3 trillion dollars that Donald Rumsfeld announced on September 10, 2001 was unaccounted for in the Pentagon budget. The team in the Pentagon assigned to investigate the "shortfall" was in the office that took the direct hit on 9/11. Not to worry; there were offsite backup copies of everything. Care to guess where? You win the grand prize if said Tower 7. In short, there was more than enough motive and opportunity for an inside job.

@Paul4747 to use the quote you posted: ' Blast expert Allyn E. Kilsheimer was the first structural engineer to arrive at the Pentagon after the crash and helped coordinate the emergency response. "It was absolutely a plane, and I'll tell you why," says Kilsheimer, CEO of KCE Structural Engineers PC, Washington, D.C. "I saw the marks of the plane wing on the face of the building. I picked up parts of the plane with the airline markings on them. I held in my hand the tail section of the plane, and I found the black box." Kilsheimer's eyewitness account is backed up by photos of plane wreckage inside and outside the building. Kilsheimer adds: "I held parts of uniforms from crew members in my hands, including body parts. Okay?"' 1) "I held in my hand the tail section of the plane." No. The tail section of the plane is bigger than him. No way he held it in his hand. 2) "I found the black box." No again. He was "he first structural engineer to arrive at the Pentagon after the crash." At around 3:40 a.m. on September 14, a paramedic and a firefighter who were searching through the debris of the impact site found two dark boxes, about 1.5 feet (46 cm) by 2 feet (61 cm) long. They called for an FBI agent, who in turn called for someone from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The NTSB employee confirmed that these were the flight recorders ("black boxes") from American Airlines Flight 77. Sorry, but I'm not buying the load of fertilizer you are selling.

@Marcie1974, I have talked with astronauts and have no reason to believe that we did not land on the moon. That did not require any violations of the laws of physics. On the other hand, the magic bullet theory required to explain the Warren Commission's version of JFK's assassination is completely absurd. I was not at all surprised when a Congressional inquiry concluded that the Warren Commission reported was not what happened. Believing that a tower designed to take the impact of a 747 was taken down by a 757 would be a major stretch. To believe that three towers, each designed to take the direct impact of a 747, could be taken down by two 757s is too much. I remember watching the two towers collapse and my initial reaction was, "This looks too much like controlled demolition." Then I watched the way Tower 7 came down and it was undoubtedly a classic demo job. Other than 9/11 there is no case ever of any steel framed skyscraper collapsing due to fire. Nor were there any cases of airplanes evaporating when they hit a building. To answer your question, I examine the evidence and decide whether or not to believe the official story. Believe it or not, the people in charge will lie if it benefits them.

@Paul4747, to quote the article you posted re the Pentagon: "Why wasn't the hole as wide as a 757's 124-ft.-10-in. wingspan? A crashing jet doesn't punch a cartoon-like outline of itself into a reinforced concrete building, says ASCE team member Mete Sozen, a professor of structural engineering at Purdue University. In this case, one wing hit the ground; the other was sheared off by the force of the impact with the Pentagon's load-bearing columns, explains Sozen, who specializes in the behavior of concrete buildings. What was left of the plane flowed into the structure in a state closer to a liquid than a solid mass. "If you expected the entire wing to cut into the building," Sozen tells PM, "it didn't happen."" So, one wing hit the ground??? The pictures of the lawn in front of the hole prove this theory is complete bullshit. Each of the wings either: a) went into the building, or b) were knocked off the fuselage and stayed outside the building, or c) didn't exist. Those are the only three choices other than "they evaporated", which didn't happen. We can rule out "a" since neither wing was found on the lawn. We can also rule out "b" since neither wing was found in the building. To put things in perspective , each wing had an engine attached to it that was larger than an ambulance and smaller than a fire truck. I use those two particular objects a references because they were clearly visible in pictures of the Pentagon lawn. Those engines had parts, made from alloys that would not simply evaporate, as large as that ambulance. Where are they???
