@Sticks48, you ask why none of the democracies copied our system? I would say that our system was never designed as democracy, but rather as a republic. The purpose of the government, in the views of the "founding fathers" was to protect them and their property rights, and not to extend those rights to others. And, yes, property rights included the right to own slaves. We have, over time, evolved into a democratic republic, but the government is still there as much to protect property as to protect human rights. A strong case can be made that it is being used to protect property over human rights. I believe it is time to change that. As for those other countries? They did not start by trying to protect the right to own slaves.

At this point in his term it would be counterproductive and a huge distraction. The House should concentrate on winning more seats in the up coming election and blowing up the republican senate.
mcgeo52 replies on Apr 27, 2019:
One way to blow up the Republican Senate is to hold hearings in the House to educate people as to all of Trump's crimes. Eventually there will be a loud enough call for impeachment that the House should draft and pass the Articles of Impeachment. The Republicans have 22 Senators up for re-election in 2020. They should have to go on the record on the question of voting to convict or acquit Trump. Timing this right will throw the entire Republican Party into disarray during the elections.

Then I started hearing that failure to abide by 6103 could be a serious felony. I eventually found an article that gave the actual 7214 section number. Once you have the Code (26) and the section (7214) it's stupid easy to Google 26 USC 7214 and get the text. If you try it, the best choice is the cornell.edu site. As for the trolling issue, I am really more concerned about what a time sink it will be responding to the stupidity. That is exactly why I say to wait until the Dems control the White House and then have the DoJ start by arresting the Senators who violated 7214( a )(3). What else did Mueller not even look at because of his extremely narrow interpretation of his charter? Then there should be a full hearing on Jeff Epstein and his connections with Trump, especially re: pedophilia. Our country becomes a reflection of what happened to General Motors when they put a bean counter, who knew nothing of cars and car culture, in charge of the company. And we saw how well that worked out for them. Alternatively, we can end up in the situation we are in now, with an entire generation so saddled with debt that they have no freedom to travel, or to take entrepreneurial risk. They barely have time and energy to watch the news, and many of them don't dare protest or rock the boat because they could loose their job. That is not a free society.

@Bobby9, you still haven't said what separation of powers has to do with this isssue. Your answers make it obvious that you have no clue what you are talking about. Separation of powers means that no one branch of the government can assume the powers of either of the other branches. For instance, a judge, as a member of the Judiciary cannot at the same time prosecute a case, since prosecution is an act of the Executive. Congress has the power to set taxes. It delegates the collection of the taxes to the Executive, whose job is to execute the laws passed by Congress. But Congress still has the responsibility and the right to oversee the execution of the law. Separation of powers has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

@Bobby9, using your logic, Congress would have no right to tell the President he could not declare war, or that he could not spend money on any old thing he wants. Congress most certainly can tell the Executive Branch what to do when there is provision for it in the law. It's called checks and balances. You would know that if you passed high school US. @Bobby9, have you read 26 USC 6103? Congress absolutely has the power to obtain tax returns from the Secretary of the Treasury. Your separation of powers argument is blatantly bogus. @Bobby9, exactly what are the separation of powers issues with 26 USC 7214( a)(3): Any officer or employee of the United States acting in connection with any revenue law of the United States... who with intent to defeat the application of any provision of this title fails to perform any of the duties of his office or employment... shall be dismissed from office or discharged from employment and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not more than $10,000, or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both. Are you trying to argue: 1) Mnuchin is neither an officer or employee of the United States? 2) It is not a duty of his office to do what 26 USC6103( f)(1) says the he **shall** do? 3) The law does not apply to him for some other reason? The attorneys I have spoken with say that the black letter of the law is very clear and obviously applies to Mnuchin.

Screw sending a subpoena to the tax firm. The tax code (i.e., 26 USC) says the following: 26 USC 6103 ( f ) **Disclosure to Committees of Congress** ( 1 ) **Committee on Ways and Means, Committee on Finance, and Joint Committee on Taxation** Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Committee on Finance of the Senate, or the chairman of the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure. That's right, boys and girls, "the Secretary ***SHALL*** furnish..." You can measure the wiggle room in that in thousandths of a nanometer. And today (Wednesday, April 3) U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, as the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, officially submitted a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles P. Rettig asking for the individual income returns of Trump for tax years 2013 through 2018.
