Trump’s troubling response to “lock them up!” chants during his Pennsylvania rally [vox.com]
mcgeo52 comments on May 22, 2019:
**PAY ATTENTION HERE PEOPLE!!!** They were not chanting, "Lock her up!" about Hillary. The were chanting, "Lock them up!" about the FBI and Intelligence Community agents investigating Trump. He is turning his base against law enforcement. This is far more serious and dangerous than, "Lock her up!"

mcgeo52 comments on May 19, 2019:
Start impeachment hearings. That gives the House greater subpoena power since they are basically sitting as a grand jury. It also gives them the platform, through hearings, to expose tRump's crimes. And, the more they expose, the guiltier he acts. Don't pass the Articles of Impeachment until it is obvious the country is demanding it. With any luck, that will be at just the right time to throw the entire Republican Party into total chaos for the 2020 elections. If the Republicans were half as smart as they think they are, they would get rid of tRump ASAP rather than have him drag them all down next year.

I think I see now how the party will defeat Bernie.
mcgeo52 comments on May 18, 2019:
The DNC knows that if it comes down to Bernie vs. Biden that Bernie wins. On the other hand, if there are enough other people splitting the votes, neither Bernie nor Biden gets the nomination on the first ballot. After the first ballot the super delegates get to vote. In other words, the total number of delegates that are progressive enough that they will not vote for Biden has to be greater than the delegates who will vote for Biden plus the super delegates. Don't be surprised to see Biden offer one of the top centrist candidates (looking at you Beto and Mayor Pete) the VP slot to lock in their delegates on the second ballot. The DNC refuses to admit that running a centrist candidate is what cost them the 2016 election. Those who refuse to learn from their mistakes will keep making them. The problem is that our country can't afford to wait for the DNC to graduate from kindergarten.

If you're concerned about your calcium intake: [onegreenplanet.org]
mcgeo52 comments on May 14, 2019:
There is another side to the calcium issue that most people are unaware of. A high protein diet can cause calcium deficiency. Your body cannot use protein directly; it has to break it down into amino acids. Doing so requires acid. Your body uses calcium to buffer the acid. If you don't have enough calcium in your diet, your body will pull it from your bones. Since your body uses calcium from the dairy based products to buffer the conversion of protein to amino acids, plant based sources of calcium have a much higher net availble calcium than dairy based sources.

mcgeo52 comments on Apr 24, 2019:
We need to learn from history. There are people who point to the impeachment of Clinton and how that backfired on the Republicans. The House passed the Articles of Impeachment in December 1998. The Senate acquitted in February 1999. The Republicans lost seats to the Democrats in the 2000 House contests, but still maintained control of the House. In the Senate the Republicans ended up with 50 seats plus the Vice Presidency, effectively giving them the majority. If holding impeachment hearings results in gaining control of the White House and both houses of Congress, why not impeach? However, the real lesson from history is a comparison between the Clinton and Nixon impeachments. In the case of Clinton, the hearings did not really sway public opinion because there was really nothing there other than lying under oath. On the other hand, the hearings in the Nixon case swung public opinion from 19% against impeachment to 57% in favor of resignation or impeachment. Those hearings revealed the crimes of Nixon and exposed him as a crook. The Democrats took 49 seats from the House and a super majority in the '74 elections, while in the Senate the Democrats gained 3 seats for a total of 60. They gained control of the White House in the '76 election. My take away? 1) Hearings in Trump's case would reveal SUBSTANTIALLY more than what was revealed about Nixon, and probably result in a majority of the country demanding his removal from office. 2) The Democrats have nothing to lose by holding hearings as far as any possible blowback. 3) Impeachment hearings in the House need to begin ASAP.

Is there any way that religion can be proved to be man made?
mcgeo52 comments on Apr 20, 2019:
It depends on the religion. I consider Scientology a religion (and a very toxic one at that). It was created by L. Ron Hubbard. Buddhism was created by Buddha. Those two, and quite a few others, including Pastafarianism and Mormonism, are easily proven to be man made. It gets more difficult to "prove" the origins of other religions because they have been lost over time. We can make arguments based on logic and circumstantial evidence, but true believers can argue that is not proof.
So.

Between what is in the Mueller report, which absolutely does not exonerate him, and his tax returns, which Congress will have soon, and the various other investigations at the state and federal level, it's just a matter of time. It is also a matter of timing. I would not put it past Nancy Pelosi at this point to drag this out so that it does the most damage to the Republicans next year, just before the election.

Has he proposed taking away any of our Constitutional rights? How many of his Executive Orders have been ruled in violation of the Constitution and overturned by the courts? Have any of our rights disappeared? Thanks to the courts that damage has been limited. Has he proposed higher taxes? He signed the Republican tax bill that has raised taxes on most of the middle class. Has he caused the economy to fail? Not yet, but his policies promoting greater wealth inequality will lead to that. Has he started any new wars? Do you mean other than the one on women and children legally seeking asylum in this country? Have minorities suffered more under his leadership than previous Administrations [sic]? If you call having someone beat you up or kill you and then having fearless leader call them a “fine person” suffering, I would have to give you a yes on that one. Did he run guns into Mexico? No, you must be confusing him with the last Republican administration; they are the ones who started that program. Did he direct the IRS to target Leftist [sic] nonprofit groups? Not that we know of, but if you look at the FACTS the previous administration did not direct the IRS to target groups based on political philosophy, either. Did he spy on journalists? Not that we know of. However, his administration was involved in the cover-up of the murder and dismemberment of a journalist. And he also banned journalist from the White House for doing their job. And then there are the points you conveniently left out: • He is doing his best to destroy the environment and our planet. If you expect me to believe that you honestly disagree with this, find a mine that has the restrictions lifted regarding what it can dump in the water; go less than a half mile downstream from that mine; get 16 ounces of water out of that stream; drink it; repeat this for 30 days. • His ignorance of economics and trade made it necessary for him to provide $12 billion in subsidies to Midwest farmers who lost markets due to his tariffs. There were additional thousands of manufacturing jobs lost, also. • At his direction, thousands of babies and young children have been forcibly taken from their families. The lack of any record keeping that would help reunite the families is prima facie evidence there was no plan to do so. The technical term for this is kidnapping. • He has unilaterally pulled our country out of treaties and agreements. This has not only injured our relationships with long term allies, it has also allowed Putin to resume the nuclear arms race. The left was nowhere near as humiliated by Hillary’s loss as the country has been by the spoiled brat trying to play President.
