I have read the speaker of the house does not have be a member of the house.
mcgeo52 comments on Nov 17, 2018:
Ideally tRump will be gone before the end of this year, and Pence with him [fn1]. I suspect Ryan will also be gone [fn2]. That means the new speaker will probably be a Republican, but this is where it gets interesting. The Republicans may well not be able to get 218 votes for any one person. The Democrats could actually nominate a moderate Republican that they could work with. With 24 Republicans voting with them, they could choose the next President. I would really it rather be a moderate Republican instead of Hillary. Hillary is far to divisive a figure and our country needs healing, not further division. Besides, a Republican could set about undoing a lot of what tRump has done with much less resistance from McConnell (assuming he is still there, which he may not be [fn3]). Stock up on popcorn, boys and girls, the rest of this year is going to be very interesting. _____ **Footnotes** fn1: * it should be obvious that: • tRump has become toxic for the Republicans; Orange County, California, went completely blue this year. (In related news, meteorologists are saying global warming may be sufficient to thaw Hell out within the next two to three years.) • enough Republican Senators are up for re-election in 2020 that impeachment charges with strong evidence against tRump brought six months before the election will force the Republicans to vote tRump out or be voted out themselves. • with the indictments coming out, even McConnell will realize that the Democrats will be able to remove Pence and tRump before the 2020 election and put their Speaker into the White House. • the only way for the Republicans to prevent the Democrats from taking the White House by impeachment is to dump tRump while the Republicans still control the House. fn2: Ryan was very much aware of the Russian influence in the 2016 election. fn3: So was McConnell.
Well they did screw up the vote and the recount proved it but still not enough for me to come ahead ...

@ of-the-mountain, I think you are confusing tRump, the symptom, with the reality of who controls our country, the disease. "The media" is over 95% controlled by half a dozen corporations, all of which benefit from tRump's policies. If you are not familiar with it, research the Business Plot, an attempted coup in 1933 thwarted by Gen. Smedley Butler, USMC, Ret. The other thing to research, again assuming you are not familiar with it, is the Powell Memo published August 23, 1971. The people who commissioned and implemented it were the heirs (in some cases literally bloodline heirs, in other cases only ideological heirs) of the people behind the Business Plot. One of the objectives set forth in the Powell Memo was control of the media. What I would find beyond belief would be the media telling, showing, or calling out trump and his republican cohorts as Fascists.

I'm with Avenatti. Let's have a real investigation done by the FBI, not the sham that was done to whitewash Kavanaugh. When the FBI reports that Kavanaugh perjured himself in his testimony to the Senate, we need to take to the streets demanding the resignations of Kavanaugh, Grassley, and McConnell.

The most obvious and urgent from a global perspective is greenhouse gases and global warming. Perhaps less obvious, but almost as pressing is the need for fresh water. On a national level in the US, we need universal health care, affordable education, and a livable minimum wage. Having listed those, I have come to the conclusion that the most pressing issue in the U.S. should be the restoration of the fairness doctrine. People are coming from such disparate backgrounds that we can no longer communicate with each other to solve problems.

Life expectancy of a sloth in the wild is 20 to 30 years. footnote 1: This assumes the entire four hours the sloth is awake is used for travel in the most direct line. Trump started with Reagan!
mcgeo52 comments on Oct 13, 2018:
Reagan was the greatest acting president ever. He was the show, but he was not running the show. Trump started way before Reagan. The movement that led tRump started with the defeat of Goldwater, and the right's determination to come back from that loss. It crystalized in the Powell Memo published on August 23, 1971. If you are not familiar with the Powell Memo, look it up and read it. It is the step by step game plan that the oligarchs have used to stage their slow, silent coup to take over this country. The final stage was to, as Grover Norquist said, have a President just smart enough to sign his name on the bills that the Republican congress would pass.
