That is one of the many reasons why I decided never to have children.
Are you asocial or a social butterfly?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 8, 2018:
I'm definitely not asocial, but I don't think I'd describe myself as a 'social butterfly', mainly because those folks have an aplomb that I lack. They're a lot more smooth than I am. ?
So what are some things that you probably really don't want to do naked.
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 8, 2018:

memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 8, 2018:
Ask for things. Don't expect other people to know what you want. Sure, some things are common sense, such as picking up things that folks could trip over but the rest of it is that utterly infuriating expectation of telepathy that I see time and again. HUMANS CANNOT READ MINDS. Full stop. You want something and it doesn't occur to the other person? Communicate it. That's how you change what's shown in the article. The writer is just putting the onus for her happiness on other people.

So, is anyone else glad that Moffat is done being the head writter of Doctor Who?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 7, 2018:
Dun matter to me. I'm curious to see what Chibnall does with it, just as I was curious about all the other ones before him. Ragging on showrunners is old hat--they've been doing it with every single one of them since Verity Lambert left.

Why Won't Congress Stop Herr Trump?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 7, 2018:
Because he's just a rubber-stamp for their greedy, inhumane ideas.
Does anyone else feel this way?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 7, 2018:
I hearya, I feel like a shitty citizen, too. It's a constant fight between wanting to stay informed and wanting to stay *sane.*. We yell and scream at officials and are told point blank that they don't care. We vote and those votes are ignored. What else is there to do short of open rebellion?
Do you care or worry or get embarrassed if your pets see you naked?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 7, 2018:
Nope, but I don't even care if humans see me sans clothing. Live theatre teaches one really quickly that there's literally no time for modesty. It became a habit.

Which toy(s) would sum up your childhood?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 7, 2018:
I was born in 74, so I had things like Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, LEGOs, etc, but also Barbie dolls, Cabbage Patch dolls, and about a hundred Star Wars toys. I had a wee Fisher Price record player and also the cassette player. When I look back on it, it's interesting the kind of technological advances I saw in my childhood. My favorite toy, though, was an electronics kit. Just a 'breadboard', a tonne of wires and diodes/transistors/etc, light bulbs, switches, dials, and instructions. I will say this about my parents, they weren't at all sexist when it came to kids' toys.

Could you stay isolated for five days in total isolation as an asocial experiment?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 6, 2018:
Nope. I've seen studies done about this already. They started hallucinating.
How has atheism or agnosticism made you a better person?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 6, 2018:
I dunno if it's made me a better person, but it's made me a truer and happier person which, in turn, has made me treat others better. I guess it's in how one looks at it.

Which abuse affects you most deeply; why, and how are you coping?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 6, 2018:
I've experienced a lot of mental and some physical abuse and I have to say the mental affected me a lot more. There were many times when I wished they'd just hit me, instead.

memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 5, 2018:
I hate competition, but I won't stop other people doing it. Why, yes, it pretty much is because I lose 99 percent of the time and am sick of it. Instead of being sore, I'll let other people have the space I would have used.
"We accept the love we think we deserve".
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 5, 2018:
The way I see the quote, it looks like more of that 'you can't love anyone if you don't love yourself' bullshit. If you have low self-worth, you won't think you deserve proper love from other people and thus will attract and accept abuse. Oysh. ?. More victim blaming.

Do you think that over the years, social media has improved your communication/people skills or ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 5, 2018:
I think it's improved. I have to be careful about wording in order to get my point across in a completely different manner than I did with creative or academic or business writing. It's added another writing skill. People who think it's somehow *inferior* to letters or in-person probably just need to develop this skill better.

Why is it easier to accept someone is gay than it is to accept someone isn't interested in sex?
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 3, 2018:
Meh, it doesn't bother me if someone is asexual. However, I don't think my getting into a romantic relationship with one would be healthy for me or for them. There'd be too much incompatibility and too many needs not met for both parties. It's like any other incompatible trait. Not good or bad, just doesn't fit.
I'm monitoring a vicious FB debate over dress codes in our society.
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 3, 2018:
This has been an argument for as long as there have been dress codes and I say now as I said then, even in highschool: pick your battles. There are better hills to die on than what you can and can't wear to school. ?

Do you feel that the current trend in universities being/having a "safe space" is detrimental or ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Jun 3, 2018:
Depends on what it is. If it's a place where one can, for example, discuss being LGBTQ or atheist or what have you without fear of abuse, then it's good. Far too often, the public sphere fails in that regard. If it's one of those adult daycare kind of places where people can hide from the big, bad world with their crayons and puppies, then, no. We don't need that kind of thing anywhere. All it does is cause regression into childhood. This is probably the one thing wherein I agree with conservatives-- universities should not be sanitised like this. It's where you go to be challenged, not coddled.

memorylikeasieve comments on May 31, 2018:
Referring to women as 'females' is incel/MRA/etc talk. Also, in my mind it sounds like the Ferengi from Star Trek, every time. I don't care, though, if I'm addressed as 'dude,' 'cat,' 'dawg,' etc, and I don't object to being addressed in a group as 'guys.'. To me, 'dude' is so agendered that it's used for inanimate objects. As to the third question, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. Sex workers?

Are you the same person you were ten years ago? Five years ago? No. And yet you're still you. Continuity of experience, in my estimation, is what matters. A change in senses doesn't mean you become someone or something else, just ask someone who's gone deaf or blind, or developed synaesthesia. Even the brain can change--the person whose brain it is is still, in their experience, the same person. Transhumanism is a ways off, though, so we still have loads of time to philosophise about it.
