I'm starting to smell like an old person, what should I do?
memorylikeasieve comments on May 2, 2018:
What's the smell, specifically?
23and Me DNA test results just came in and I was surprised to find that there is no Native blood in ...
memorylikeasieve comments on May 2, 2018:
I did a 23 and Me as well. Turned out I have zero Scandinavian or Russian despite what others thought. I'm mostly 'British/Irish' and some 'largely Western European' which, I think, is genetics-ese for 'I dunno, white?' I'm adopted and it was a closed adoption, as was standard for 1974, so this is the best I've got. :/
A man in Toronto drove a van down a busy sidewalk mowing down as many women as he could.
memorylikeasieve comments on May 2, 2018:
A specific killing of men would probably be 'androcide,' going by the typical use of... erm, is it Latin or Greek... can't remember--ennyhoo, it's better to use 'homicide,' in my opinion, as separation of gender in this case may lead to dehumanisation of one or the other. As to why they do this? They're shitty human beings, that's why. I don't care what their past was like. I hate this kid-glove treatment of abusers and bullies and murderers that other people are propagating. I had a terrible relationship with my mother, I couldn't get a date (much less sex) if my life depended on it, but I'm not going to be so stupid and evil-minded as to blame women for it.
How long...?
memorylikeasieve comments on May 2, 2018:
Far too long. Haven't got a number, as I lost track somewhere along the line. My sex drive dried up and died from neglect a little while ago, which I suppose is for the best.
Should we demand/expect for respect?
memorylikeasieve comments on May 2, 2018:
Demanding respect is the quickest way to ensure you won't get it.
What’s your source for morality?
memorylikeasieve comments on May 1, 2018:
Empathy, mostly. I don't want bad things to happen to most other folks.
Ear infection.
memorylikeasieve comments on May 1, 2018:
Dunno about natural. When I had an ear infection a couple months ago I took ibuprofen to stop the pain. Everything else, the antibiotic took care of.

Would you date a disabled person?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 29, 2018:
If they have a physical disability, only if they don't have to rely on me to care for them--with my narcolepsy it wouldn't be safe for them or me to do so. If they have any other kind, I'd be careful to make sure their illness doesn't latch onto mine--or mine onto theirs--and drag us both down.

What do you think of tarot card readings?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 28, 2018:
Eh, I think it's fun and sometimes can be a good introspection exercise, but that's about it. I collect Tarot decks, too, because I love the art on them.

Oh, for fuck's sake. Your friend needs a good smack with the ol clue-by-four.
How do you handle people who tell you that they will keep praying for you?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 28, 2018:
For me it really depends on why they're saying that. If it's because I'm sick, I usually just smile and say something like 'thanks--I'll shore that up with some NyQuil/pain meds/etc.' or 'thanks--now, if you'll excuse me, I've got doctors to talk to.' They mean well, for the most part, so I'm not gonna make a scene. On the other hand, I've heard them say this because I'm an agnostic, and because I'm gay. In these cases, they sincerely think it'll get their god to /change/ me, and I have no tolerance for that. If they think my lack of belief or my sexuality are things that are fundamentally wrong with me, then there's no reason to mollycoddle them. If I'm in a decent mood, they'll get a 'please don't, you'll be wasting your time,' and if I'm not, I've been known to really give them a piece of my mind. I've wanted to slap a few of them, but thankfully it's never actually come to that.
Snoring. You Guilty? Is it a deal breaker?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 28, 2018:
Not 60+ or straight, but I am hard of hearing, so a snoring partner would only bother me if it was loud. I snore, but only if I'm on my back. I tried a CPAP and it did nothing for my quality of sleep.
Does anyone here deal with fatigue?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 28, 2018:
I do. I have narcolepsy, which leaves me half asleep most of the time and completely asleep at inopportune times during the day. The only thing that puts a dent in it is 100mg of modafinil. ?
How many people have you blocked? I have blocked 2!
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 28, 2018:
One. And only because she is egregiously smug about her own disconnect from reality and I got sick of reading her unhinged blithering. That and I decided to get there first before she blocked me, like she's probably done with half the people on this site, by now.
How important do you think our buying power is?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 28, 2018:
I don't think mine really makes any kind of a difference. Sure, I shop local when I can swing it, but that isn't very often. Too broke to really expect my tiny purchases to even be noticed. Also, I don't boycott.
A research project: What caused your shift away from religion?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 28, 2018:
Raised ELCA Lutheran, did the Confirmation thing. I questioned things ever since I was a little kid in Sunday School. My tolerance was pretty high and I kept going because singing in the choir was the only option for keeping my voice in training, and it was a small town, so this was expected of me. I didn't have the self-worth to refuse. But once I moved out of that town I scarcely ever set foot in a church again.

Am I the only one that thinks the world was better before smartphones, fb, social media etc ?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 27, 2018:
That's fine for you, but I remember a time before the internet and I vastly prefer being able to communicate with people far away without either a hefty long-distance bill or time wasted waiting for things to arrive in the post. I prefer up-to-date info for most of my research, and to be able to do said research at a moment's notice instead of having to work around the operating hours of a library or bookshop. And most of all, I prefer having a GPS to direct me while driving over getting lost, hesitating at intersections and ending up ticketed, or taking a wrong turning and ending up late. Social media sites have actually helped me to make more in-person contacts than before and to keep up with friendships that otherwise would have died. It's helped me gain perspectives from around the world instead of just my small physical space. This may sound like an ad or an inspiration piece but it's true. Social media hasn't created strife and division, it's simply revealed more of what people are like.
Can we forgive humans for being human?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 27, 2018:
Forgive them for being human? Yes. Forgive them for being Nazis or incels or similar? Thaaaaat's a mighty tall order. As to the second question, I don't think that'll be possible for a very long time.

Your thoughts on loud music in a restaurant?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 27, 2018:
I prefer it, but I have misophonia and literally cannot stand a lot of the sounds involved with eating: forks against plates, wet food squishing around, and especially open-mouthed chewing, which it seems almost everyone around me does. 'Loud' music covers that noise and spares everyone else my anger.
And how old are we?

INCEL - explanation please
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 26, 2018:
They are bitter, bitter people who don't accept that they need to make fundamental changes to their personality and, occasionally, hygiene in order to succeed in their aims. They can't get a date and blame women for that instead of taking stock of what they themselves may have done wrongly. This much is pretty well-known. There's also a lot of overlap on the ol Venn diagram between them and PUAs and MRAs. They're quite often hideous to look at because of their poor choices in grooming, but are convinced it's society that's wrong about that, not them.
Can you share your experience with stock market?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 26, 2018:
My dad and my uncle set up a hypercomplex network of stocks and mutual funds and all this other arcane stuff and then bequeathed it to my brother and me. Neither of us have even an inkling of how any of it works so, rather than try to touch it ourselves at all and end up investing badly and bankrupting ourselves, we have trained professionals at the bank handle it. That is the beginning and end of my knowledge of it. It's not, in my opinion, something amateurs should handle unless they're really got at not only the maths but at speculation.

What kind of driver are you?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 26, 2018:

What do you think of separate rooms for couples?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 26, 2018:
I'd probably do the same thing, or, at least seperate beds. I sleep much better alone, and I radiate so much heat when I sleep that my partner would most likely agree to it.
Captions!!
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 26, 2018:

I've seen it everywhere. Parking is insanely difficult, so whichever way is easiest, more power to ya. What annoys me is when I'm in a car with someone who insists on going back and forth, back and forth, in and out, trying to make it perfect. Are we inside the lines? Good enough. It's a parking space, not your S/O. You don't need to fuck it.
Would you date a person with a disability?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 23, 2018:
Depends on what it is. Having a narcoleptic for a caregiver simply isn't safe, so I don't think I'd get into any kind of serious relationship with anyone who would have to rely on me for that. As to invisible disabilities and mental health issues, i tread carefully around that, too. Nobody is 100 percent healthy, but I don't think it'd be a good idea to get into a serious relationship with someone whose disability would lock onto mine--or mine onto theirs--and drag us both down.
How much salary would make you happy?

I was too afraid of a homophobic reaction to tell him I wasn't interested because I'm a lesbian, so I made up some story about a boyfriend and the guy went away. I don't know if it's because of my Grumpy Cat neutral face, but people just don't approach me or look at me. They don't catcall, nothing. I have no hashtag me too stories. Yes, I know I should be grateful, and I'm not complaining, but I do wonder why I'm such an outlier.
