Ever been called ugly or some other mean spirited slur to your face?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I was called ugly to my face for pretty much the entirety of school.
Colon Hydrotherapy. Anyone know anything about it?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
Sounds like something out of the hydrotherapy craze in the 1800s.
Would you truly like to live on a sailboat and travel the world?

memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
My ex girlfriend.
Do you like opera?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I love it. I sing it, too. The only shows I can think of right now, though, are G&S operettas, two of which I've been in. (The chorus in these shows have more fun than the mains do!)
This is something I think about often. How did we go down this road?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I don't know, but I'm trying to stay off that road.
Where do you feel most comfortable going on Sundays mornings?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
Sunday /morning?/. I don't go anywhere.
What is one current piece of slang or an expression that you wish would never be used/spoken again?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
Just one? I guess I'd have to go with 'yaaaaaaaasssss'. I hate that noise.
Cursive is quickly dying, like shorthand. Are you okay with that?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I never liked cursive writing. Most of the time it's illegible anyway.

memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
This may sound dismissive, but I don't mean it to be when I say see a therapist. If I'm reading the post correctly, it sounds like you're experiencing caretaker burnout. A therapist can help figure out ways to make these things less frustrating.
I say oh hell yes.

What has happened to hitchhiking?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
Some money-humper probably started spreading false information about the dangers because he thought hitchhiker's were lazy bla bla handouts bla bla socialism dribble drool fart.
People constantly say millenials are the most entitled people, but I don't get it.
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
What they started by screwing over GenX is now coming to its fruition with millennials. The difference is millennials have the energy to do something about it. I will cheer them on as they do so.
What is a good reason to be happy?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I think if you analyse happiness too much it vanishes.
So you're invited to a masquerade party! What statement would your costume make about you?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 18, 2018:
That I'm a hopeless nerd, as I'd probably go as The Queen In Yellow (Instead of the King In Yellow, geddit?), a costume choice probably no-one would get.

What is your favorite paradox?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 18, 2018:
Unfounded causality loops. They fascinate and infuriates me in equal measure when I find them in stories.
Some of the posts here are serious in tone and beg a serious response.

Too long. ?
Is there a word or phrase that makes you say "ew"?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 17, 2018:
Another vote for 'moist.'. Bleccchh. Also, the sound of the word 'lunch' just grates on me. As well as almost anything with a short 'a' before an 'n' or 'm.'. 'Panties,' 'pamper,' 'pamphlet,' etc. Guh. Hate those sounds. Also, 'yaaaaaaaasssss'. Fuckin hate that noise.
Why does it seem that some people go out of their way to be unpleasant?

Why is everyone looking for love?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 16, 2018:
I don't think people are looking for love at first sight. I think they're looking for potential. It's human nature to want to streamline processes. Life is short and if we can start with some things already established, like common interests and philosophies and compatible sexualities, we don't end up barking up the wrong tree and possibly angering people.
If you could have any person, pet, or other creature cloned, what would it be and why?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 16, 2018:
I wouldn't clone a person. What we love about a person is their mind and in order to reproduce that, we'd either have to have mind-uploading technology, which we haven't achieved yet, or we'd have to re-create every event of their lives down to the smallest detail, which is unfeasible. An animal would be much easier and simpler, and there'd be more chance of the same personality reoccurring. In which case I'd clone my best friend's cat, Kiki, a sweet little black kitty who was full of love. I was cat-sitting for him and his family while they were out of the country when she got sick and I couldn't read the signs (I thought she was just getting clingy because she missed her regular humans) and had no transportation to take her to the vet anyway. By the time they got back to take her to the vet her hyperthyroidism had done too much damage. She got terribly such and we had to put her down. I still kind of blame myself, a bit.
How do you keep promises?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 16, 2018:
I try not to make any kind of promises in the first place. When one has a chronic illness, it's unfair to both parties to set too much stock in something that has every chance of not happening, through no-one's fault.

What's the most awkward situation you've been in?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 15, 2018:
My entire life is one big 43-year-long awkward moment. I never say the right thing, act the right way, even dress the right way. Never have. Probably never will. Sheer social ineptitude.

It seems that most outspoken anti-choice ("pro-life") people are in a religious community.

What movie marathons have you done?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 14, 2018:
A few of my friends and I once did a marathon of all three Lord of the Rings movies. The extended versions. It went all night and into the morning and we were loopy as fuck when it was done. We all just slept on the floor for several hours. It was fun, though.

memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 14, 2018:
When I was in my senior year of HS, our choir had 120 people (a sizeable chunk of the student body) and I remember the director was so excited because now we had enough people to sing Thompson's Alleluia. Despite its context, it's a beautiful and difficult piece to perform, but we went to state competition with that song and scored first plus, so we must have been doing something right. I remember my sheet music was a chaos of highlighted bits and arrows because, even with that many people, we needed a few folks with a wide range and a good ear to help with some parts. I bounced about from first soprano to tenor and points in between. It was challenging and fun, but I'm a vocal music nerd.
Driving. What is it to you?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 14, 2018:
I used to like road trips. Wyoming and it's suicidal cervids changed that for me right quick. My poor car ended up undriveable and in a looooonnnng queue of other cars wrecked by deer and other animals at the repair shop. After a week in a small Wyoming town with more churches than people, we had to leave and get the car later. The rest of the trip to Washington state was nothing short of harrowing. Especially having to drive a 25-foot U-Haul truck along a high, railless mountain pass the approximate width of David Tennant. I eventually managed to find the one vehicle shipping company that admits Wyoming even exists and had my car shipped to me once it was repaired. I'll probably go back to enjoying road trips, but even now, two and a half years later, that whole debacle is still fresh in my mind.

memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 13, 2018:
I dunno, when I see folks with fat hanging out of their clothes, I wonder how they aren't horribly physically uncomfortable. It would drive me nuts if I had bits of me hanging out of my clothes, squeezed by hems, dented in odd places by elastic, randomly getting cold. Sometimes it looks like it would be downright painful. I thought we'd moved past clothing being painful. ? As to seeing oneself differently, I wish I knew. I have Body Dysmorphic Disorder and my brain is always trying to tell me that I'm hideous, to the point where I literally see things differently than everyone else does. The only thing that seems to work for that is therapy.

Raising a decent human being
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 13, 2018:
My parents didn't do much right but one of the things they did do right was instil in me the habit of doing research when I wanted to know something. 'Go look it up' might sound dismissive to a kid asking the usual kid questions, but nowadays I'm glad they said it. So I'd recommend doing that. Granted, these days you have to be careful about the answers you get, so I'd teach them that, too. Always verify.
What, me worry?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 13, 2018:

Should we have intelligence thresholds for voting?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 12, 2018:
I don't think there should be one for voting--too easily abused. However, I do think there should be one for running for office, and the higher the office, the more stringent the requirements should be. This will in no way invalidate the uniquely American belief that 'anyone can become President,' because you still won't have to be born nobility or wealthy, just have a working mind and a connexion to reality. And if people think that's unfair, they should remember that all kinds of other jobs and careers have all kinds of prerequisites, so why shouldn't running a major superpower have them?

memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 12, 2018:
Nothing's really reminding me of age (43), I'm just out of shape. At least that's what I tell myself. And I go to the gym and sometimes it works. I am in better shape that I was in my 20s or even most of my 30s, though, so there's that.

How would you explain humanity to a visiting alien?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 12, 2018:
I'd tell them that humanity is young. It's only just got started, still hitting a lot of stumbling blocks and figuring out how to get over them and how to avoid future ones. I'd tell them that humanity is capable of terrible cruelty and amazing kindness. That it can destroy and create. That it hates and it loves. But with all that, it still isn't done growing. It deserves a chance to find out what it'll become, just like any sapient species. ...And I'd probably say all that with stirring, inspirational music playing in my phone because of course I fuckin would. ?

Does the term cis bother you?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 11, 2018:
I just don't like being called a prefix. It rubs my English major self the wrong way. Also, they're kind of mangling the Latin as 'transgender', from everything I've seen means 'gender transitioned/transitioning', rather than 'the other side of gender.' These are minor points that don't mean much to me at the end of the day. What bothers me is all the 'die, cis scum' I've been seeing out there.

Chronic Pain.
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 11, 2018:
CBD works really well for a lot of people. Neuropathy is a tricky one, though, as I've seen that not a lot of physical remedies (massage, TENS units, etc) seem to do anything for it. The folks I know who have neuropathy take gabapentin or, I think, Cymbalta, neither of which are opiates.
FB, Concordia, and the Oligarchy - What can we do?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 11, 2018:
I don't find boycotting to be a good idea. For the most part, it won't make any difference and if it does, the only people hurt by it will be the rank-and-file employees. I keep hearing 'vote them out,' and I can only hope that works, though I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't, what with the dirty tricks the GOP pull on a regular basis. A Constitutional amendment seems the most likely option but I can't get my hopes up for that, either.
Do you collect anything?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 11, 2018:
I collect interesting stones and Doctor Who memorabilia.
Piercings.
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 11, 2018:
I can't really say regarding piercings in interesting places, I only have three each in my earlobes. I prefer tattoos (I've got two and am planning more) because, frankly, I find tattoo aftercare easier than piecing aftercare. In my opinion, the body can be a wonderful canvas. One just has to be very choosy about what is put on it permanently.

Who's your favourite Doctor and why?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 11, 2018:
I started with Tom Baker, only just. I remember Peter Davison better, though. As to my favourite... hm. That's also a tough question. In some ways it depends on the kind of story I'm in the mood for. But my general go-to for just sitting down and watching some Who is usually either Peter Davison or David Tennant.

memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 10, 2018:
I've seen no difference between online and physical space regarding my luck with dating. I keep hoping that, at least, when online, a lady will have a chance to get to know my mind before my appearance turns her off to much. Then again I do realise she's being set up for disappointment this way.

Is “Objectivism” a legitimate philosophy?
memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 10, 2018:
I can't pretend to be able to join the debate as to whether it qualifies as a philosophy under the definition of such. In fact, I had to look it up in order to even know exactly what it was. However, I can say it's not a philosophy I can follow and be able to live with myself, as far as its ethics are concerned. I've seen said ethics being used to justify some pretty heinous things, and I've been bludgeoned with it, myself.

memorylikeasieve comments on Apr 9, 2018:
