Tips for moving out of state
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
I would not recommend driving, but that's only because my drive from MN to WA was fraught with unnecessary difficulty after we hit a deer in WY. If I have to move a long distance ever again, I will have my car shipped. Also, look into PODS, which is a service that moves and stores your things for you. As to finding friends in a new location, it all depends on the location. I don't even really have any general advice.
How do u politely tell a religious person they have their head wrapped around a fairy tale?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
I don't think there is a way to do so politely.
Did someone break your heart badly that you're afraid to trust anyone else as far as love?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
Yes. It's why I'm not inclined to trust bisexual women.
What are your deal breakers?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
Cigarette smoking, having or wanting children, actively disliking Doctor Who (mainly because it's absolutely everywhere in my home and they'd be miserable/infuriated/etc), not being at least somewhat active.
How important is sexual chemistry in a relationship?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
Very important, if it's a romantic relationship.
Would you support bringing back the original United States motto “E Pluribus unum (Out of many, ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
Yes. Yes, I would.
Do you cry when you have to put your suffering pet to sleep.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
I am an absolute ugly-sobbing mess when I have to do that and pretty much ruined for days after.
Atheist that admire Churches and other religious architecture?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 7, 2018:
I think they're beautiful and I can easily separate myself from the religious intentions and just admire the artistry.
What's 5÷0?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 7, 2018:
The end of the universe. Knock it off.
What is one truth you have learned that you wish you had never found out?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 7, 2018:
[insert Lovecraft reference here]
How much sleep do you get?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 7, 2018:
It's entirely random and determined by my neurochemistry, which means I don't have a circadian rhythm, I have a circadian drum solo. Narcolepsy sucks.
How do you feel about spiritual music?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 7, 2018:
I love classical music despite the religious lyrics it often has.
Preferences in dating
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 7, 2018:
Personally, I'm open to dating a lady of any race, but I will only date lesbians, as I've had enough with bi women leaving me to marry some dude. It's happened repeatedly and I'd rather spare myself the pain and just not go down that road again. The question about race being part of one's preferences brings up something I've been wondering about, though. If someone said they found people not of their own race especially attractive they'd be accused of fetishizing or exotifying.
Cancer cure(s)
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 6, 2018:
Nope. 'Cancer' is way too general a designation for way too many illnesses that respond differently to treatments.
Do you as an individual feel that you make a difference in politics?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 6, 2018:
I vote, for whatever that's worth. Otherwise, no. Not really. No money, no influence, no connexions, no charisma. I'm so easily ignored, I should change my name to 'Terms And Conditions.'
Would you accept a job or position within a company that was built around religious beliefs?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 6, 2018:
I would not.
Are snakes with apples always up to no good?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 6, 2018:
Snakes are adorable and if there are snakes with apples, they will be photographed.
Why do atheists and agnostics have to hide their beliefs in the work setting.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 6, 2018:
I don't hide it at all.
How do I stop my negative self-talk?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 6, 2018:
Look into Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. It's pretty much designed to defeat negative self talk and is something one can do oneself once one learns how.
Would you date someone who was overweight?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
I would if they're active. I find sedentary people very frustrating.
If anger could be converted into physical form, what should it become?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Lightning. It could be a wee spark or full-on thunderbolt.
How'd "just being yourself" work out for you?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Yeah, myself is awkward and socially inept. Nobody wants to be that.
Ok so I’m new to this site sooooo I hope this doesn’t get me flagged.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Naw, it's just a forum thing.
If someone made a movie about your life, who would you want to play you and why?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
I dunno, man, who ever they got to play me they'd have to ugly up, something powerful. It'd win awards for makeup, at least.
A new world
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Does Menshara mean M Class planet? G Class star? If so, it sounds good, save for one thing. How would we get there? Generational ship? Cryosleep? FTL travel? (Naw, I'm not a SF writer, whatever gave you that idea?)
Ladies, what is a pickup line that would "have you" first time it's used?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Don't care what the exact words are, as long as she gets across that she's a childfree lesbian Doctor Who fan.
Are you able to recognize your own accent when someone else speaks it, or do you swear you and your ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
I'm told my accent is unplaceable. Some people think I'm from Scotland or Ireland when, in actuality, I'm from Northern Illinois, spent 15 years in Northern Minnesota, and now live in the PNW. I've no idea what I sound like to other folks.
Stephen King fans?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
I've read The Stand, Firestarter, The Tommyknockers, The Dark Half, The Shining, and a bunch of short story collections, but my favourite is IT.
America was (mostly) founded and populated by religious groups escaping persecution in their home ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
To be more accurate, America was colonised by religious extremists 'escaping' what they said was persecution because their home countries thought they, the extremists, were persecuting other people too much and too harshly. They were too dour and severe for 1600's Britain. That's saying something.
Sexism
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Yes. Women absolutely can be sexist. I've seen women make hiring decisions for general office jobs based on gender (literally stating they don't hire men), I've seen women deliberately refuse to believe statements made by men solely because they were men, I've seen women refuse service by men, etc.
What are some social etiquette rules everyone should know and follow?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Chew with your mouth closed. Cover your cough. Sneeze into your elbow. Don't wear backpacks in crowded areas. Chew with your mouth closed. CHEW WITH YOUR GODDAMN MOUTH CLOSED. (Can you tell this drives me absolutely bonkers?)
Did you grow up with religion?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Raised Lutheran, did Sunday School and Confirmation and all that. When I was a kid I went along with it gamely enough, but sometime in high school I stopped going. My parents thought it was just because I didn't want to get up early on a Sunday morning and I let them think that rather than argue with them about my lack of faith.
I hear a lot of people on this site saying how lonely they are how they wish they could find ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
I'm new here, so I haven't seen many folks' posts/replies yet. I'd have to agree that distance is a factor for me, as well, as well as the fact that I'm only looking for women if it comes to dating.
I was told there is no more middle class in America now. Your opinion?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
It's pretty much gone, yeah.
To my beautiful girlfriend who I haven't met yet.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
You're not alone in this. My family were abusive and even now, decades after I escaped, I'm still terribly uncomfortable around other people's relatives.
Dressing Pets, really?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 5, 2018:
I think I'd only ever put clothing on a cat if it was a Sphinx. I imagine they get cold.
Being polite when confronted by the religious
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I don't engage. If I have to engage, I have to admit I fail at being polite a lot of the time. Especially if they're homophobic.
Because of a varied schedue, does anyone else find it difficult to meet people?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I have an open schedule, but I also hate going to bars and clubs and such. I can't help but think anyone finding me attractive there only does so because they're drunk.
Have you ever been on a strict diet?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I tried a few times. Every time, I was miserable--even more fatigued and sleep-prone and irritable. Nowadays I just try to cram as much veg into my face as I can and call it done.
Do you believe in karma? reincarnation??
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 4, 2018:
Like a lot of things that can't be demonstrably proved or disproved, I really don't know what I think about it. I can't really divorce myself from the idea of souls and of some kind of continuing energy, though.
I've started watching Neil deGrasse Tyson's "Cosmos" on Netflix.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I've seen both and love both. Science doesn't have to exist without wonder, and I think both versions get that across beautifully.
Acupuncture. Any thoughts about it?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I think that, like chiropractics, it can work for certain kinds of pain. Pinched nerves, blocked lymph, and misaligned bones all benefit from physical manipulation. Beyond that, though, no.
There are days when I feel like I'll never find love again.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I hear ya. I've been unhappily single for about five years, now, and nothing seems to work. Yeah, yeah, work on myself, I don't need an SO to be a complete person, bla bla bla. All that philosophising doesn't make it suck any less when you're surrounded by couples, being acutely reminded of how alone you are. Hang in, there, though. It's rough, but we'll live. :)
Anyone spent their lives believing they are cis hetero, and that everyone else is just like them, ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 4, 2018:
I used to think I was straight. I just kind of ignored my feelings for girls until I moved out of my home state entirely in order to get away from abusive family and had the complete mental collapse that'd been looming for a long time. While putting myself back together I realised I was in love with my roommate, and she with me, and that I was much more attracted to women than to men. I've accepted being a lesbian and look back on all that time dating guys as yet another symptom of my real self being repressed.
What’s one of your most annoying things a person can do to really get on your nerves?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Loud chewing, wearing backpacks, wearing flip-flops.
Whould you date a woman UFC fighter?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
I probably would, unless she's neurotic about eating. Food is more than numbers.
What's better: renting or owning a home?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Depends on if you're any good at maintenance, because if you own a home, you have to either do all that shit yourself or pay a lot to have a professional do it. However, I'll agree that renting is frustrating, depressing, and occasionally dangerous. Still, I'd rather rent because I am too clumsy to properly carry out maintenance.
Addicts. Let me ask you guys about addicts. Drug addicts in particular. How do you view them?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
I'm... not sure yet what I think. On the one hand, I recognise that it's an illness that needs treatment, but at the same time I have too many memories of abuse from my mother to feel any sympathy for alcoholics or, especially, cigarette smokers. I realise it's a very uncharitable view, though.
Interviews are stressful, what are some of the best (worst?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Q: 'Where do you see yourself in [X] years?' A: 'Same place I see myself now. In the mirror.' or 'Causality itself insures that nobody can answer that question with any degree of certainty.' I know they want to know plans and goals and ambitions and all that happy horseshit, but I haven't got any. One day after the next is enough for me. Q: 'Tell me about a time you defused a situation/created a solution/etc.' A: 'It literally never came up.' How often do they think this comes up for the average person in a retail or medical environment? We don't live in a television show. A rank-and-file employee is not going to run in with the answer.
I keep hearing that praying is a wonderful thing.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Praying is like masturbating--it only benefits the person who's doing it, and it really should not be done in public.
When looking for a significant other, there are lots of easy to detect deal-breakers like smoking, ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Psychological land mines, social anxiety, and introversion. Sorry, but I like to share experiences with people who are important to me and it's often more trouble than it's worth if getting one out of one's house is like pulling teeth every time.
If you could describe yourself and your ideal partner as any fictional character (books, movies, tv,...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
My ideal partner would be The Doctor (especially now). Someone eccentric, adventurous, compassionate, and intelligent. I've no idea what I'd be.
Anyone enjoy listening to podcasts?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
The F Plus, The Dollop, No Such Thing As A Fish, System/Movie Mastery, Expounded Universe. Probably others that I'm forgetting.
Do you make your bed every day? Why or why not?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Nope. I overheat at night and sweat, so I actually pull the covers back to air everything out--otherwise I'd be changing my sheets every day. Ain't nobody got time for that.
What is the most uplifting thing happening in the world right now? What is the most tragic thing?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
The most uplifting? I heard the UK have a fusion reactor. I hope it's true.
What would be the most memorable travel adventure you have experienced?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
My most memorable is not a good kind of memorable. My housemates and I drove from northern Minnesota to the Puget Sound area. Halfway through Wyoming, after being held up by a violent storm, on a moonless night on a rural highway with no lights, we hit a deer. Nobody was injured and the airbags didn't deploy, but we were stuck in Buffalo, Wyoming for a week, surrounded by the kind of people you'd expect to find in such an area, and ended up having to rent a 25-foot U-Haul truck to get the rest of the way here... but not before we (three lesbians) had to spend several hours in a truck with a homophobic Fox News fan with several firearms in said truck just to get to Billings, Montana to get said U-Haul. The drive in what amounted to a sail on wheels was nothing short of harrowing, especially when I had to drive it through a mountain pass the approximate width of David Tennant. Then we sat around in an area called Snoqualmie waiting for blasting to finish before we finally came out the other side of the Cascades. We spent three days in a stupidly expensive hotel in SeaTac, just recovering. TL;DR:. Fuck Wyoming and it's suicidal cervids.
To the happily childfree: What were your reasons?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
I dislike children intensely. Their voices are piercingly shrill and they don't speak English, the same way I don't speak Child. You can't reason with them at all. Babies are even worse. Even beyond that, I'm a narcoleptic--I have sleep attacks, and just don't have the energy to chase after something that needs monitored 24/7. Furthermore, I'm tocophobic. Just the thought of pregnancy makes me panic. Even if I weren't, I'd have to d/c most of my medications for nine months and nothing is worth that.
Why is it that life breaks some people down, and makes others more resilient?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Brain chemistry.
What's the worst food in the world?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Brussels sprouts. To me they taste the way dead things smell. Blech.
Can physical attraction truly be unnecessary in finding a potential relationship?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 3, 2018:
I don't buy it, either. It's human nature to factor in the appearance of other humans. In my experience, people who say looks don't matter are either high enough on the looks scale to never need to worry about it, or are saying it because they think it's what they're supposed to say.
What is something you have tried, but will never do again?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 2, 2018:
Zero or low-carb dieting. If keeping my sanity means staying fat, so be it.
What's something that has never (or will never) changed about you?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 2, 2018:
My sense of humour, my nulliparity, my refusal to smoke cigarettes.
OK so it's been fun so far but let's try and shake things up.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 2, 2018:
Our understanding of physics constantly changes. Who's to say they don't invent it later? However, who's to say they /do?/. I agree that I'll need much more substantial proof before I believe any of these claims. As to warnings about the future... eh. I follow the Many Worlds Hypothesis. It's the only one that makes sense to me.
Which religion in your opinion is the worst? Islam or Christianity?
memorylikeasieve comments on Feb 25, 2018:
I think they're both terrible.
Dating (this site and others)
memorylikeasieve comments on Feb 25, 2018:
For dating, I check age, gender, and location, first, then whether they smoke cigarettes and whether they have/want children. Then I look at pictures which, while not as important as the abovementioned, are still a factor.
