Hi!

Software Engineer, home owner, and father of two amazing kids with me 50% of the time. I'm 5'10, for those that need to know such things.

I am honest and laid back. I value open communication. I enjoy going out, being active, or quiet time at home. I love music (mostly alt/indie/punk/rock/metal). I enjoy Sci Fi and comic stuff (Love Walking Dead, Dr.Who). I am liberal, atheist, agnostic, humanist, and open minded.

Where are all the 48-54 yo atheist liberal divorced men with kids within 30 miles hiding?

I know we've discussed the idea of soul mates before; however, this is my reality:
mikecagain comments on Sep 7, 2018:
I don't believe in souls or soul mates. I believe relationships take work. And you try to find someone that makes the work worthwhile. And I know it's just a meme, but I'd love to see the scientific definition of "soul mate" to allow for the actual study of such a thing.

mikecagain comments on Sep 5, 2018:
Any group of anything anywhere that includes Star Wars, the choice is Star Wars. After that, the next obvious choice is the Matrix.
Here is one that I haven't heard in quite a while.
mikecagain comments on Sep 5, 2018:
Great choice. I was a big fan of theirs as well. Mountain Song, Ocean Size, and Had a Dad were the ones that initially jumped out at me when I first lsitened to Nothing's Shocking. The whole album was great though.
An observation… I grew up in a family where feelings were always suspect.
mikecagain comments on Sep 5, 2018:
Commmunicating through the Internet isn't easy. Emotions can be difficult to convey in plain text. More often than not, the emotion conveyed is what the reader reads into it, and not what the writer intended. And then there are all the online trolls who just enjoy being anonymously mean. Rereading a post is a good idea. Asking questions or asking for clarification when a post seems off to you is also helpful. On the flip side, communicating while hiding behind a computer screen is perfect for the socially shy. It can make it easier for people to express things they might otherwise be uncomfortable expressing. But it is easy to be misunderstood in this forum.
Usually see this type of thing at Walmart.

So, I feel that it's update time: I am now in the third weekend in a row with my child.
mikecagain comments on Sep 2, 2018:
You're entitled to your fair time with your daughter. Even if you're just hanging gout and don't have anything specific planned, you aren't obligated to give up your time with her just because her mother has decided that she wants to do something with her. It is still your time. She certainly can plan these things on her days with your daughter. On the other hand, it is good to try to be flexible and accomodating, for your daughter's sake. But that's on the understanding that if you give up time one day, she'll be willing to do the same for you another day.
It's worth it. Go on now! [youtube.com]

mikecagain comments on Aug 30, 2018:
I know this isn't really the same thing. But on the note of trying to regulate or blame how a woman dresses. My 11 year old daughter is starting middle school. She was going through the list of rules and regulations, and of course the dress code. I forget the exact wording, but it was something about not being able to wear sleeveless or strapless shirts, or shirts that come off the shoulder. The reason given was because it is too distracting. To which my daughter replies "Seriously? My shoulders are distracting? Dad, are my shoulders distracting? That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard".
This is one of my favorite albums.

I called to wish my grandma a happy birthday, she's 90, devout Catholic.
mikecagain comments on Aug 30, 2018:
I don't talk about treligion with my parents and they don't know how I really feel. In their mind they see me as a non practicing catholic who doesn't go to church. And they bug me about it sometimes, but for the most part they let it be. If I told them my true beliefs as a non believer, they would feel like failures as parents, and based on their own religious beliefs would have to accept that I am doomed for some eternal punishment. I see know reason to burden them with that. I let them believe what they want to believe. They can believe in their religious myths. And they can believe that I still hold onto a part of that. It doesn't bother me or affect me.
Another one i haven't heard of in a long time.
