I grew up in a large Polish American Catholic family. I had a “born again” experience in college that led me into very conservative, patriarchal, cultish forms of christianity—family integrated church, quiverful, homeschooling, purity culture—the whole nine yards.

I reached my tipping point about 8 years ago and gradually came to atheism reading atheist blogs women who came out of a similar background as mine. I’ve lived in various parts of the country, following my ex-husband’s career. I gave up my own engineering career because I was convinced that women shouldn’t work outside the home because jeebus.
