phxbillcee replies on Feb 10, 2018:
@Taijiguy I'm glad you find this funny. Are there other worries out there? Indubitably, but the steady infiltration of religion into the secular sphere is surely one of them. & tho the "Right" says they love the Constitution they tend to misrepresent it, & it's history. The folk who say they are for less government are the ones who think that women should not rule their own bodies, that only they, & their religion, should decide who can marry. That it's ok for them to raise the National Debt, for dishonest wars & corporate tax cuts, but if the Left does it for social betterment, well, that's treasonous & they're not "real" Americans. & you may like money, hell, I bet you even worship it, but it is not the only thing in life for many of us & with currency manipulation, inflation, etc., I surely will not put my trust in it. So, maybe you are naive!

I have found on the 'whole,' Christians do not like to think deeply. One of my daughter's has told me for most of her adult life (40yr), that I 'put to much into everything!' And so far as I can see, not one thing I have said or done has changed her Evangelical mind!
phxbillcee replies on Feb 8, 2018:
A study was done, about early 2000's I believe, that showed that people who primarily watch FoxNews for their information on current events are consistently incorrect about said current events. In other words, watch Fox & become misled. What is truly amazing, & it is being shown so much today with our late-night tv hosts, is that folks who watched "The Daily Show" had a better grasp on the world & current events than not only Fox viewers but even most of the other networks news!

One of the things that allowed us to become who we are as a species is that we retain into adulthood the innate sense of curiosity that most mammals lose on becoming adults. That should be celebrated, not denigrated, as in Martin Luther & other xtian writers' hate of reason. Never stop learning, never stop growing!

I still want to explore as much as we can, tho, even if most of it ends up being by robot.

phxbillcee replies on Feb 6, 2018:
@Lancer You make reference to Heinlein's "Starship Troopers", child soldiers are neither used or discussed in that novel. I wonder where else you get your morality here, some seems harsh but somewhat understandable if a situation, such as WWII, happens, but then you make a quote like, "If a nation breeds weak vermin & mongrels, they must accept their fate, be it death or slavery." What eugenics tomes from WWII Germany are you reading to give you a slant like that??? A nation should surely defend itself at need, but one would hope, especially with International Courts & the United Nations, * even NATO, weak tho they may be, that we are moving away from a world in which might is the only right & that a country like Denmark should have to worry about a stronger nation attacking them. Appreciating strength is one thing, appreciating naked aggression is quite another. "Globalism" has taught us at least one thing, usually co-operation & trade work better in most cases vs war. Are you a proponent of Social Darwinism? Something even Darwin did not espouse. Do you believe war is the only way forward for our species? If so, I foresee a very dim future "strength" or no. We have moved ahead more by the open sharing of knowledge & ideas than by wars. True strength is in not abusing it.

Hopefully a last hurrah for the reactionaries. This may be a fight that the next generation has to see to its conclusion, or, it may take longer, & believe me, I hoped & worked for it to come sooner, as I am a true child of the '60's & '70's, but "We SHALL overcome!"
