phxbillcee replies on Jan 13, 2018:
Feel the same way. & I don't care what the apologists & re-writers of history want to claim, slavery was the cornerstone of the Secession, State's Rights was their right to keep slaves, primarily. Granted, there were other reasons, but they were secondary at best, & they not only brought their "real" guns to fight the issue, but their religious guns, too! So many bible passages promote or at least accept slavery.

GreenAtheist comments on Jan 4, 2018:
I refuse to debate irrationalism. ...the sounds gawd gott gods are gibberish non-words void of meaning accordingly one cannot debate non-existence existing. ..I walk in and out doors needing zero door beliefs. ..."believe in" is a non-sequitur. ...Agnosticism means we CANNOT KNOW while it is the ...
phxbillcee replies on Jan 4, 2018:
Have to quibble a bit here. Agnosticism is we don't know or don't yet know, not that we cannot know or never will. Atheism is the lack of belief in a god or gods, usually, but not always, because of a lack of evidence, or a lack of sufficient evidence. (Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.) Now, individuals may vary on that scale, I consider myself an agnostic atheist. Others may differ or have different qualifiers.

I will not identify as anything but as an atheist. Pagan, agnostic, non believers etc.. all of these terms aren’t quite descriptive enough as to the fact that I do not believe in a god and or gods. Atheism has such a negative connotation. Growing up Catholic, I thought that atheists were really scary people. In the US, Muslims are more highly regarded than atheists. Trapezoid comments on Dec 27, 2017:
Not that comfortable - conjures up images of that dreadful Dawkins fellow and his followers' ironically dogmatic approach generally.
phxbillcee replies on Jan 2, 2018:
Obviously, you are not an atheist, so I can see why you wouldn't be comfortable. & Dawkins doesn't have "followers". He's a science writer, primarily on evolution, (& a damn good one!) that also happens to speak on subjects regarding religion, atheism & belief in general, & is damn good at that, too! Nothing he states is "dogma", & I disagree with him on occaision, just as I have my differences with Dennett, Harris, Hitchens, Krauss, et al. Atheism has no dogma, it is a simple statement on non-belief, usually on the grounds of lack of proof. Just out of curiosity, are you here just to troll? Fine with me if you can bring actual evidence or arguments with you.

I'm comfortable with it and it's meaning. Against Theism, aka Atheism.

Actually, atheist is without belief. Anti-theist is against theism. I'm both, but tho an anti-theist is most likely an atheist, the obverse is not necessarily the case.

We don't know everything. This scientific theory that energy cannot be created or destroyed only transformed comes to mind.
phxbillcee replies on Jan 2, 2018:
Sure, & we know most of those transformations at death. The breakdown of your cells, the biota present in your body being "set loose", outside buggies looking for a new food source. But, without a brain, how does the "energy" of your "personality" cohere? I don't subscribe to dualism or the concept of a "soul". & the amount of energy involved in the brain/mind is minimal, very easy to just dissapate.

Or, honestly, between multiple partners of whatever sex. Tho I have little tolerance for the FLDS church & lifestyle, it is more the way they treat children & women as property, & the way it is such a pyramidal hierarchy that turns me off, (let alone the church teachings, but that's another matter!) rather than polygamy. Again, my bottom line has to be "consenting adults".

Human sexuality, & all that implies; psychology, emotion, culture, sex, etc., etc., is incredibly complex. I'm an old fart, so I don't know if I totally buy into the notion of all these different "sexes" that seem to be sprouting up, but I have always realized that there is no one definition for either male or female behavior or sexuality. I'm a "straight" male, with many cultural "biases" from the '60's & '70's (& even earlier imprinted on me by my parents & culture), but that time of "sexual revolution" also helped open my eyes to the variety that exists. Bottom line, for me, at any rate, is "consenting adults". Anything else is repressive.
