As most of that money comes from the government, if the government has a policy where UAP research is classified above Top Secret (as was disclosed to the Canadian Minister, Paul Hellyer), that makes the subject off-limits.

You don't have to bomb a nuclear reactor to create horrific devastation with all the toxic chemicals stored. Putin assisted Assad with his chemical weapon attacks; will he use those on Ukraine? Along with all their other lunatic values, Republicans are falling in line with Fox/Putin talking points, claiming the dictator is the slighted party in this. Ukraine already has to deal with Chernobyl, and let's not forget how Russia accidentally downed the commercial airliner, Malasia 17. The devastation of war simply can't be conveyed.

racocn8 replies on Jan 17, 2022:
@FearlessFly You are wrong about Molten Salt Reactors not producing nuclear waste (long-lived radioactive daughter products). No known fission process can avoid producing highly radioactive daughter atoms. If you can describe such a process, I'd be interested to know, but Wikipedia agrees with me (see below). Fission is a random splitting of heavy nuclei. These nuclei are stable by virtue of the ratio of neutrons to protons. When they split, the smaller nuclei have ratios of neutrons to protons that are unstable, usually very unstable. The nuclei must radiate negative beta particles in order to recover a stable ratio, usually several times (Emitting betas changes the neutrons to protons). Because the splitting is random, the daughter nuclei can be almost anywhere in the lower half of the periodic table. Per Wikipedia: "The discharged wastes are mostly fission products (nuclear ashes) with shorter half-lives. This reduces the needed geologic containment to 300 years rather than the tens of thousands of years needed by a light-water reactor's spent nuclear fuel. It also permits the use of alternate nuclear fuels, such as thorium." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molten_salt_reactor As this information is generated in a politicized environment, it is suspect, even in Wikipedia. The point is that highly radioactive materials are generated, and the worst waste requires significant reprocessing to separate it from what can be recycled. The highly radioactive waste still needs to be sequestered, and our political processes have been unable to agree on a disposal mechanism.

racocn8 replies on Jan 16, 2022:
@azzow2 Carcinogenicity is a complex subject. In the 90's, I had a search done on black pepper which was known to fail the Ames Test for mutagenicity, what was thought to be a stand-in for carcinogenicity. It turned out the Ames repudiated the test he developed, saying that numerous molecules are mutagenic, but that DNA repair enzymes fixed the damage. It may be that cancer develops when these defenses are lost. I'd be very surprised if perfumes cause breast cancer. Skin cancer is far more likely, especially on the upper chest which is exposed to sunlight and UV radiation.

Repubs might try to impeach Biden, but for what? And they still need 67 votes. Now if Biden violates the law and is impeached, Kamala takes his place. Not good, but it could be so much worse.

"The second component to Anslinger’s strategy was racial. He claimed that black people and Latinos were the primary users of marijuana, and it made them forget their place in the fabric of American society.
