When a foreign hostile adversary overthrows the established government by an illegal coup, isn't the coup at least equivalent to a declared war? (If the US engaged in such tactics on a foreign country, they would rightly see that interference as an act of war, declared or otherwise. If a citizen of that country helped the US overthrow it, that citizen should still be regarded as a traitor to that country and guilty of treason.) I can go with espionage if it gets the job done.

racocn8 replies on Oct 11, 2020:
How can you prove anything? Given the vaporous nature of information, one necessarily seeks to connect the dots. The Mueller Report certainly documents major illegal activity within the Trump campaign and some of that has been prosecuted. The second (or third) in command of the Trump regime is still in command at the WH. The books on Trump are helpful. The sequence of actions involving Comey are a matter of record. John Durham's activity remains somewhat secretive, but most bets are that it was intended to reflect the GRU narrative fed to Sen. Johnson on behalf of Giuliani/Trump/Putin. That Durham would have anything to do with this material or otherwise follow Barr's unmistakably political motivation should be unfortunate. The FBI is supposed to be non-partisan, and this investigation appears to be a straight-up illegal deviation from that dictum. As the Trump Administration is a foreign subversion and criminal money-making scheme, RICO applies and Barr and Durham are part of it.

racocn8 replies on Oct 11, 2020:
@Jolanta You asked why it was reasonable to believe in the FBI. That question requires a two- or more sided answer. The FBI are a form of law enforcement, and subject to corruption, incompetence and illegal and even immoral behavior. On the good side, note the arrest of the militia members seeking to harm Governor Whitmer. On the bad side, it is certain that FBI agents violate the rights of citizens (by abuse or torture as you note) to further their investigation. John Durham's investigation appears to be politically motivated and is thus immoral, corrupt and possibly seditious. Similarly, Mueller's investigation refused to investigate Trump's financial status, and shelving the counterintelligence investigation. Here we're looking at incompetence as well as corruption and treason. Comey's publicizing the reopening of Clinton's email investigation was incompetent at least, and certainly political and immoral. Comey's silence on Trump's links to Russia ahead of the election was again, incompetent, political, immoral and seditious. It was seditious in that by depriving the electorate of an understanding of Trump's collusion with the Russians and his status as a foreign agent, he subverted the election and democracy. The FBI is part of the Deep State and I contend some or all of these anti-democratic FBI actions or inactions were coordinated by still deeper players, probably within the CIA secret government that works more directly with the real power brokers.

Osteopaths certainly have more training including some schooling in medicine. However, they both believe (with no scientific basis) manipulation can cure problems not related to musculoskeletal problems. I maintain that Dr. Conley is unfit to be the point man to discuss Trump's status. The absurd use of Dr. Conley It is very similar to Trump's appointment of Dr. Scott Atlas, a radiologist, to head the Coronavirus Task force. Hey, why not put a dentist or veterinarian in there? Don't get me wrong; those are both honorable professions, but for the President to appoint someone who is not expert on the issue is simply rank incompetence and more contempt for the American people and for scientists.

racocn8 replies on Oct 8, 2020:
@mcgeo52 @TheGreatShadow and Wordywalt , You are right and I stand corrected. However, the two disciplines come from common folk traditions of 'bone setting' and remain referenced by the term “manipulative therapy”. While it is true that Osteopaths go through 4 years of a 'medical school', they continue to be taught a non-scientific belief that manipulating a certain area can promote complete self-healing. Osteopaths deploy a wider range of techniques while Chiropractors perform spinal adjustments. There are differences, but they both stray significantly from science in their guiding semi-mystical beliefs, perhaps not unlike Chinese disciplines that use acupuncture. And they all over-reach in using their techniques to address problems that are better understood in the context of medical science. But then, quite a few religionists are doctors, so what the hell. The main point is that Trump is using a non-MD to represent a medical problem that has nothing to do with musculoskeletal manipulation.

I hope you are feeling a little better; I know it is devastating. Make sure your memories of the good times are uppermost. We can only hope to be as upbeat as we can. These are stressful times and I have found a few drugs that help. 5-HTP helps with anxiety, and L-methylfolate helps depression. I make my own hemp capsules, and those are very good. I believe better than CBD alone. Message me if you'd like more info.

Only a modest portion of the population have the fortune to be retired. And among even those, a lot were in nursing homes, unable to protect themselves from infected staff. Many who died worked in 'essential' jobs, and in a poor position to quit, perhaps being the only source of income for a family. Again, the timeline: Trump produced numerous tweets criticizing Obama’s handling of the Ebola outbreak, so Trump had understanding and concern about pandemic outbreaks. He later took similar actions that he criticized Obama for. In 2015, Obama’s Susan Rice established the White House Global Health Security and Biodefense unit tasked with being responsible for pandemic preparedness. In 2017, the Obama administration walked incoming Trump administration officials through a pandemic scenario. Officials were told a pandemic would likely lead to shortages of ventilators. In May 2018, the GHSB pandemic preparedness team was disbanded and its head Timothy Ziemer, left the Trump administration. Also in 2018, Trump cut the CDC budget. On January 29, 2019, the DNI (Director of National Intelligence) issued an annual report that warns on page 29 that, “The United States will remain vulnerable to the next flu pandemic or large-scale outbreak of a contagious disease that could lead to massive rates of death and disability, severely affect the world economy, strain international resources, and increase calls on the United States for support.” In 2019, from January to August, the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services conducts a simulated exercise with 12 U.S. States to respond to a severe influenza pandemic originating in China. The study found confusion between HHS, FEMA, and the Department of Homeland Security on which federal agency would take the lead in the crisis and that the US lacked the production capacity to meet the demands for protective equipment and medical devices. The published findings were completely ignored by Trump and the White House staff. A few months later, symptoms from the first cluster of confirmed cases in Wuhan emerged and began to be documented between Dec. 8 and Jan. 2. WHO was notified on December 31. On Jan. 22, A reporter asks Trump if there are worries about a pandemic. Trump responds: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.” Although WHO had tests available, Trump saw a chance to line his pockets and sought to obtain tests domestically. Unfortunately, these companies could not work out the bugs in these tests. Between the escalating pressure to obtain tests and the dashing of hopes for kickbacks from the domestic tests, Trump threw a tantrum, saying that it was up to the individual states to find ...

The Bells Edgar Allan Poe - 1809-1849 https://poets.org/poem/bells (Skipping I and II) III. Hear the loud alarum bells— Brazen bells! What tale of terror, now, their turbulency tells! In the startled ear of night How they scream out their affright! Too much horrified to speak, They can only shriek, shriek, Out of tune, In a clamorous appealing to the mercy of the fire, In a mad expostulation with the deaf and frantic fire, Leaping higher, higher, higher, With a desperate desire, And a resolute endeavor Now—now to sit or never, By the side of the pale-faced moon. Oh, the bells, bells, bells! What a tale their terror tells Of Despair! How they clang, and clash, and roar! What a horror they outpour On the bosom of the palpitating air! Yet the ear it fully knows, By the twanging, And the clanging, How the danger ebbs and flows; Yet the ear distinctly tells, In the jangling, And the wrangling. How the danger sinks and swells, By the sinking or the swelling in the anger of the bells— Of the bells— Of the bells, bells, bells, bells, Bells, bells, bells— In the clamor and the clangor of the bells! IV. Hear the tolling of the bells— Iron bells! What a world of solemn thought their monody compels! In the silence of the night, How we shiver with affright At the melancholy menace of their tone! For every sound that floats From the rust within their throats Is a groan. And the people—ah, the people— They that dwell up in the steeple, All alone, And who tolling, tolling, tolling, In that muffled monotone, Feel a glory in so rolling On the human heart a stone— They are neither man nor woman— They are neither brute nor human— They are Ghouls: And their king it is who tolls; And he rolls, rolls, rolls, Rolls A pæan from the bells! And his merry bosom swells With the pæan of the bells! And he dances, and he yells; Keeping time, time, time, In a sort of Runic rhyme, To the pæan of the bells— Of the bells: Keeping time, time, time, In a sort of Runic rhyme, To the throbbing of the bells— Of the bells, bells, bells— To the sobbing of the bells; Keeping time, time, time, As he ...

Number 1 is that this species has a strong incidence of mental illness, whether in the form of religion or the politically correct labels of disorder, mania, depression, etc. Our crowding is making it worse. Our societal values are pathological more often than not. The interest in betterment, personal discipline, honor and integrity are minimal, and quickly discarded in favor of self-interest. We are very badly over-populated with almost zero interest in doing anything about it. Even with President Biden, the country is controlled by the real Deep State, and the world is dominated by oligarchies and dictatorships. Our time is almost over, and the writing is on the wall. It may be at a scale that no one has bothered to name them. I don't know what those are. I don't believe they are insect eggs. They are on all of the pollen sacs and I believe they are part of the sacs, purpose unknown. They are much bigger than the pollen. On the picture with the ruler, the pollen are quite tiny. @LucyLoohoo I want to express my appreciation for your reply. I hadn't heard of hyperemesis gravidarum. It sounds like we still need better forms of birth control, cheaper and more reliable. I salute you for your work and encourage you to stick with it. Your willingness to take on the emotional pain is extremely commendable.
Hearing the pandemic death toll mount day after day is gut-wrenching.

Why didn't Trump stop the pandemic? Because it initially began in blue states...
racocn8 replies on Sep 28, 2020:
Very good point. Still, wouldn't he have been briefed that it wouldn't stay there? It will be interesting to see the effect on the election in that the pandemic appears to be gearing up to totally hammer the red states. The MAGA could be limping to the polls. Trump's encouragement should bestow herd immunity on those morons in record time. And, chances are they'll have a maximal fatality rate given their macho arrogance. I just hope the non-whites reduce their losses by being safe, when they can.

So Putin just takes over, Checkmate? What happened to American Exceptionalism? No one but no one will ever be able to use that term with a straight face ever again. What a fucking joke. Half the country will vote for a proven traitor and asset for a hostile foreign power? This has to be a twilight zone episode. Hell, it's not even good TV. We don't need fucking aliens to have Monsters on a Maple Street, just Trump's secret police. Where's the goddamn Military Industrial Complex when you need them? If Putin takes over, where ya gonna sell all those weapon systems? As far as their stupidity, they embrace being deplorable which is a good bookend for their delusions. I'd like to see their religion in tatters, and them having nowhere to go. For a start...

All of your choices seem to assume he had a plan. I think the closest thing he had to a plan was "sacrifice some elderly and already sick for the economy/reelection". Since then, he's just too narcissistic to admit he was wrong.
racocn8 replies on Sep 28, 2020:
Plainly Trump has made a large number of very strategic moves. The moves are so strategic that they appear far outside the competence of Trump's team. Given that Trump is a proven stooge for Putin, these moves are best understood as having come from Putin. It boggles one's credulity that Trump would slow-walk the pandemic response on Putin's instructions. Apparently he is utterly devoid of patriotism even as he wraps himself in the flag. It is a level of hypocrisy that is breathtaking in its extremity. I am inclined to agree with your inference, Trump has the attitude that those dying are expendable. If wounded and killed soldiers are losers and suckers, where does that leave seniors?

C'mon, they have their fingers securely planted in their ears, and there's no digging them out. Can't Planned Parenthood do a failure analysis and reduce abortions by addressing the causes? Is the problem logistics? Cost? Competence? There are so many forms of contraception to pick from. it seems potentially ugly as to why abortions still take place at all.

Your last thought is very interesting. Something else, what pretense issue would they motivate the Evangelicals with after that?
racocn8 replies on Sep 27, 2020:
Contraception is next. Creationism is also waiting in the wings. What is critical is that states still set the law, so abortion will only be illegal in the red states. As people leave the churches, and non-white populations expand, red states will shift purple and even anti-abortion laws will be eliminated. It will be a short, if obnoxious revolution. Christianity will revert to the weirdo cult it really is.

@BirdMan1 I'm sure you're familiar with the term "Future-Shock.' I remember it was William Proxmire who awarded researchers with a waste award after their findings of Future Shock among Iranians essentially predicted the Shah's overthrow. The researchers correlated the rise of religious conservatives. Very much the same as we are now seeing here.
I thought it would be useful to put these three videos together.

racocn8 replies on Sep 23, 2020:
It reminds me of my refinery days when we were tasked to find every possible fault and how to deal with it. One of the rules was to forego double jeopardy where two elements failed at the same time, because that created an exponentially large set of failure modes to address. The problem here is that we are dealing with human agency (Putin) intent on exploiting multiple faults simultaneously. Again, the better analogy is the Stuxnet attack on Iran's nuclear processing. The virus exploited multiple zero-day defects, meaning they had never been deployed before and thus no countermeasures were present to stop them.
I thought it would be useful to put these three videos together.

## Is India still number one?
racocn8 replies on Sep 22, 2020:
That depends on how you look at it. Per the website, India is at 88K dead, less than half the US number. The US also led the number of cases at 6.8M, followed by India, Brazil and Russia having 5.5M, 4.5M, and 1.1M respectively. San Marino, a tiny microcountry inside Italy had the highest death rate of 124/100K. The US took 11th place with 61/100K. You can click on the headings to resort the data: https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality
