The people we help survive will die with us when we go, whether it's WW III or ecological collapse. If it makes you feel better to help the destitute, please proceed. However, do not imagine that you are doing anything more that putting off the inevitable. (I recently hosted a pair of homeless in my house for more than a year. While they were wonderful people, they became problematic. I've done my goodwill for a while.) Religious beliefs functionally endorse the inverted morality of "more power-less responsibility." You're right as far as equating religions to parasites. However, you should realize that evolution works on much greater time scales than a few millenia of human history, especially with such a long-lived species. Russia is positioning itself to re-take Ukraine. Russia benefits by weakening the West and has been successful in sowing division almost everywhere. If I were to guess, I'd say 45% of GOP are bought off and the rest have comprimat by the Enquirer or other GOP 'allies'. The percent of Dems could be 10%, but a lot on both sides are also paid by Saudi Arabia or other countries. Our government has been corrupted because it's been corrupt for a long time and it's built up an assembly-line of corporate and international bribery and influence peddling. Those that would plug up the holes have to get their proposals past a corrupt majority, so nothing gets done.
