I would certainly vote for culture over religion as the basis for what is and isn't acceptable. That's the point: Our culture has progressed significantly in recognizing the level of respect that should be afforded to those that are different. Religion mostly does the opposite, teaching to fear the other, and that outsiders must either be converted or shunned. Religious morality is still mostly a reflection of pre-Technology Europeans with acceptance of slavery and cruel patriarchy as standard. Religious morality mostly lags cultural morality by at least a couple of centuries. Holding to cruel and simplistic values of religion is now understood as degenerate and indicates underlying psychopathy.

It is entirely appropriate not to wish harm to others. It is the most basic ethic. And yet, after four years of unbridled hate-mongering, dog-whistles with a bull-horn, the most putrid defiling of our country, no sane person will fault you for wanting justice. As to it being a ploy, certainly, in the absence of more information, that is a strong possibility. It would be remarkable, though, considering how much he loves those rallies. If it is a ploy, it will just be another in a long line, and in keeping with his willingness to plumb the depths of dishonor.

That would assume said Gawd-dude had an interest in justice. Justice would certainly not be served by Trump dying in a matter of days. @Diagoras Totally agree. Given Trump's reckless behavior and insisting on irresponsibility among his followers, this was predicted (by me), although I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. It certainly was inevitable. Perhaps Trump's caisson will get the military parade he wanted so badly?

Lie, lie, lie, recite delusions, hate-monger, lie, lie, lie. Why would anyone wonder why those who respect truth and truth-telling be disgusted by a Christian specimen like this? Mental illness will always be deeply troubling; How far is this guy from being one of those self-flagellating self-arguing mumbling homeless persons? And by projection, he shows inclination to sexual predation. Scary. And probably severely schizophrenic. Best case, if we ever sought to become a sane society, we would be testing everyone for mental illness and doing what we can to help them. But to start, we should be able to get interventions on people like this who obviously need help. The other real issue is that religions specifically target mentally ill people for recruitment. And, where beliefs are specifically disproved by research/science, those beliefs should lose 1st Amendment protections, because espousing such beliefs is harm-generating disinformation.

My opinion is that Trump is following Putin's instructions. By screwing this up, the destruction of the economy is maximized. Both are psychopaths with no concern for the death toll. Trump's behavior in exploiting cultural flaws in the government reflects massive GRU-style scrutiny. Russia's security agencies have been working as hard as they can to figure out how their stooge can bring the country down. Covid has been a huge help in this effort. Other explanations of incompetence, arrogance, grifting opportunities are certainly there, but they are deployed as subterfuge to disguise Putin's guidance.

Believers form this question in their mind when they hear the denunciation of atheists from the pulpit. The priest claims atheists have no morals, saying or implying that they violate the morals Christians supposedly have. The priest's claim is pure hate-mongering. That a believer actually responds with the inferred insult is, in the best case, a clumsy response to the nagging suspicion that the priest is full of shit.

For an atheist, morality is the BS the believers pull out of their butt. If you look at behavior of Christians, it is apparent they behave worse or much worse than non-believers. Belief is the inculcation of immorality, but of a particular type: gross selfishness, extreme dishonesty, sexual perversions, white hot bigotry, and so much more. Atheists have ethics and reflect on their actions; they don't rely on a god to give them a pass in exchange for loyalty.
