seattlepanda comments on May 25, 2019:
I can't view youtube where I am but I assume you've watched the local production, "Seattle is Dying". I can't equate this with the refugee situation. In the 70's we took in 1000's of Vietnamese(remember the boat people?)...these were people whose lives were endangered by our ultimately botched southeast Asia policies. We recognized a moral responsibility for innocent people whose lives we ruined. Somehow we disconnect the same situation in Central America today, where our "War on Drugs" has precipitated a militarization of the region with the resulting push-back of groups(gangs?) determined to supply Americans insatiable appetite for drug-induced escapism. So we have 1000's of good, hard-working innocents whose lives are endangered by cartels and their enforcers that our policies have produced. Vietnam and Central America are related consequences. Seattle vagrancy is unrelated.

I hear you Steven... I'm a person with no remarkable animosity toward religion; I just don't buy-in. I like this site as a place to socialize with similar-minded folk. I am interested to note differences in values and mores, between believers and non-believers. I have no particular desire to discuss theology, pro or anti and will scroll through (especially the more bitter-hysterical)posts and comments. btw...I perceive no discernible difference between social beliefs of most people here with that of the public at-large...(in a sense, "we are all "Christians" :D)...
Is it just me or are some posts (here and in other groups) just plain difficult to understand?

how do you define success?
seattlepanda comments on May 15, 2019:
My opinion, success is less about financial successes and elevated state of living. More about general satisfaction in life experiences to date and that we are comfortable in our life today. In this context, I feel much more "successful" than many with much more material possessions than me.

What is your opinion on Catholic schools? Are they forms of modern brainwashing?
seattlepanda comments on May 12, 2019:
I went to catholic schools 1st thru 12th grade. Got an excellent education. Learned a lot about the religion. In high school, we were taught to question(which my Dad supported). My questioning led ultimately to agnosticism. My 6 brothers and sisters also spent most of their pre-college years in parochial schools. None today are religious or particularly spiritual.
