I grew up in a Catholic family, but I knew by age 13 that my parents' religion was deeply flawed. Jesus seemed okay; at least he was kind, merciful, and respectful (mostly) of women. The bureaucracy of the Church I could not abide, though. It wasn't until my 20's that I discovered psychedelics, and with them, the realization that were many things still beyond my ken. At that age, I had neither the vocabulary nor the insight to understand I was grappling with spiritual questions, but my experience propelled me into studying medicine. For at least 10 years, I had no spiritual life or community to speak of, until I found paganism in my 30's
