So the Dostrict decided that if they could not provide services equitably to every student that it was better to offer none until this pandemic is over. I'm not sure if I agree. Teachers spent a furious weekend learning a new online platform. I learned how to use EDMOODO.com. Our students a furious week trying to figure how get connected, how to do the assignment and send it. I had about 75% successfully connected in some form or fashion,. @WilliamFleming I disagree. The Defense Production Act allows prices to be fixed to get necessary and needed items (masks, swabs, gowns, ventlators) to the places where they are needed. It allows the President to demand that companies involved in the production of these items to ramp up their production. It was used effectively in WWII. This is not normal times, so normal market theories do not necessarily apply. Companies are promised large bailouts, so if the productivity does not come up normal profit margin, the stimulus should help. In the words of Spock, " The needs of the many out ways the needs of the few". Screw Ayn Rand.

Not true. Price gouging is real. If you are in desparate need and insufficient supply exists, you will potentially hurt yourself in order to get what you need. It's the reason states are instituting anti-gouging laws

@AnTwanSr This is partially true. But the weather was anything but perfect. Our early erectus ancestors were driven into the Horn of Africa - Eritrea because of the climate. They survived along the coast and adapted to harvesting the sea which was a new strategy in their survival arsenal. When the climate eased, they migrated up into the Middle East following the coast until they reached the area around Kiev. At which time the broke apart, some went to the East onto Asia, some went West into Europe. This took thousands of years of step by step migration The group the reached Europe ran into the glacial ice sheets of the Pleistocene. By now the are becoming Homo sapien sapien through evolution and adaptation. It is probably in central Europe they encountered the Neanderthals. Neanderthals were adapted to the colder climate closer to the ice sheets edge, but less adaptable as the ice retreated. All organism respond to the environment. If major climatic shifts occur the organism must adapt, migrate or go extinct. Evolution is about a species being evolutionarily "fit" to survive and successfully propagate itself. When they become "unfit" they perish as a species.

@LimitedLight Why are we still talking skin color. This is a superfluous conversation. If a group lives in specific geographic location over multiple generations, melanin production come about naturally and accordlingly. If it doesn't and the population remains on this location, they become evolutionarily unfit and go extinct. If they live near the equator they will produce more melanin to protect against excessive UV Ray's from increased sunlight. If they are in the northern or southern latitudes, they will produce less melanin to increase access to UV in producing Vitamin D. This will occur through Natural selection, adaptation, and sexual selection. Given the article, skin color is superflous

@Beowulfsfriend Misleading. There is more to evolutionary success than size. Our so-called intelligence has allowed us to modify our environment to shelter us from the effects of the things necessary for evolutionary fitness. That's only temporary, it will catch up with us. Remember evolution can act in a very short period of time (eg. virus mutstion), Or it can take millions of years. Our species will only be a minor blip on the geologic record. Impactful, but ultimately short-lived.

Part of our evolution was the development of societies for the reasons mentioned above by Novelty. Our prey was bigger than us, our predators that preyed upon us were bigger than us. We evolved abstract thought to envision tools out of raw materials, we developed a complex language system to communicate on hunts for the reasons mentioned aboce. In order for survival, groups needed a way to keep the group together, keep them evolutionarily "fit". This was accomplished by exacting rules and understandings that kept abberant and unbeneficial behavior in check. In other words culture and society (the bane of Libertarians) This worked well while human groups traveled and lived in extended families or tribal size. Once the numbers exceeded this size the check and balances of culture and society was no longer effective in checking abberant behavior. This occurred about 4000 years ago with the advent of agriculture and permanent villages. We have been "unfit" as a species since then and will ultimately go the way of all species unfit for their environment.

@AnTwanSr I take your editorial meaning and as a matter of non-scientific argument, I get it. But just for an FYI: I take you mean lack of intelligence as an editorial on human actions, especially recently. No human group on the planet has demonstrated any more or any less intelligence than any other group. Development is more a matter of necessity and access to resources than ability. Dkin color is a matter of sexual selection and geographic adaptation. There is no such thing as a biological/genetic marker for race in humans. Everybody carries gemes from almost every group on the planet in our genome. Human migration throughout our history, mixed intermarriage and inter-breeding has spread every groups genes around. There is no such thing as a pure group or race. Even Native Americans brought genetic material from all over Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe when they emigrated.

Capitalism is not the panacea the present practioners want to claim. Capitalism can many faces. The present version is similar to the social darwinism of the early 1900's and it led to the Great Depression. The present version is a predatory version. Businesses actively work to cannibalize their own market, just to gain the slightest of margin and market share. Capitalism does not need to be this short sighted. There is room in the market for multiple companies, that is if extreme, obscene greed wasn't the driving factor.

Both Darwin and Wallace presented to the Royal Society of London on the same night. Darwin presented first and is given the credit for evolutionary theory. He deserved it has he had been compiling and working on it considerably longer than Wallace.

t1nick replies on Mar 19, 2020:
"Race" has a very specific meaning in biology. An example of biological race is the Tanzania chimpanzee and the Gambian chimpanzee. At one time both groups were the same population. But at some point in the past one group broke off from the original group and migrated. Over time due to geographic isolation, both groups continued to evolve separately, adding independent changes to their individual gene pools, such that today, both groups genetically appear almost identical but with minor genetic changes that distinguish each population from one another. Enough different that they would not naturally mate in the wild under normal conditions. In humans there is no genetic marker for individual races. The distinct features that we see among human populations are more a matter of sexual selection and geographic adaptation. If your population lives closer to the equator where UV Ray's are more pervasive you adapt by producing more melanin giving a darker complexion. So naturally, the more melanin you produce to protect you from the sun, the more "evolutionarily "fit" you are. So sexual selection contends that you look for a mate which with better"fitness", thus darker in skin color. This holds true for other attributes that individual populations deemed sexually attractive. The reverse is true for the very northern and southern latitudes. Less sunlight, so in order to produce more vitamin D, your need less melanin blocking the UV Ray's. So you look for a mate that is very fair. Now humans are not bounded by geographic isolation. Because humans are so mobile and have traveled so extensively from early on in our history, we have intermarried and interbred around the globe. We possess genes from every human group, no matter how isolated in our gene pool. Even if a trait isnt expressed in our phenotype, we still carry a remnants in our gene pool. That is why we do not have a genetic distinction in our gene pools that would distinguish groups as "racially" different, because we are not.

@WilliamFleming True I was hyperbolic when I said millenia. Sorry about the exaggeration. But I worked in the oil patch in Loiusianna and Mississippi in the 80's. I saw white privilege and racism first hand. It's true what the whites and US Calvary did to the Navajo. I live on the Navajo Reservation so I am quite aware. Kit Carson, the mechanic behind the Long Walk was born in the South (Kentucky). He was a scoundrel , a liar, and a repugnant individual. Many calvary recruits were exiles from the Southern states following the Civil War. The history of the South is checkered at best. It is true that the North has more than its share of racism. I studied that while in graduate school at the University of Illinois. And the Southwest has its share of racial injustice against the hispanics. It comes down to the same thing. White privilege. A left over from the Colonial Era and remnants of European Imperialism. However, I do not believe that it is as institutionalized as what I saw when I worked in the Gulf Coast.

Picking apart Tuckers diatribe, spurious conclusion by spurious conclusion would entail an extensive expenditure of time an energy. If I thought there were a chance that I could engage you in a truly intellectual debate on the issues, that would be different. So take my opinion for what it is, my opinion and realize that you and other Tucker followers aren't worth my time.
