@Truthseeker1968 Yes and no. The idea that it was okay to seek intellectual pursuits. Whether it might be questioning, deliberating, or the choice in literature or reading material. Even something as dimple as an interest and love of art. My family wasn't very interested in these things so I had little prior exposure. Needless to say I found Rand an eye opener to say it's alright to use your brain, to be curious, etc. Does this answer your question?

@Ms_McSteven I concur. I think that most Republicans insisting that they were opposed to Obama due to policy differences are deluding themselves. Let alone everyone else.. Most do not understand the policies they claim to oppose. They fall back on false Republican talking points which were, are, oversimplified evaluations, out of context claims, and hollow drum beats without fact or veracity of truth.

t1nick replies on Sep 8, 2019:
@Ms_McSteven He wasn't given the opportunity. The days after taking off Moscow McConnell announced to the world that he would do anything his power to thwart anything Obama attempted. He was joined by the Republican Tea Perty and Freedom Caucas congressperson. Even when he had both parties, most votes take a super majority or tabled via a filibuster action (this is a Democratic generated debacle aka. Harry Reid). Once he lost the House and Senate it was a foregone conclusion that nothing would get accomplished. The "do nothing " Republican party made sure of that. Regardless, IMO, MOST opposition to Obama emanated from a racially-based core. White privilege and racism I really feel is the basis for MOST people who objected to Obama.

I spoke up for CB because I have interacted with her for the entire time shes been part of the site and have seen nothing akin to what she accused of. I talked her about personal things related to her pregnancy and I posted to her political posts(which arec tame compared to mine). Needless to say I am confused by a link to our profiles and what the reference is meant to imply or suggest. Maybe positive. maybe not I cannot tell from this post.

In the past politicians, by and large, generally followed a general level of civility and focused on policy. Occasional individuals stepped out line, but were shamed back into line. t1nick replies on Aug 24, 2019:
Republicans like Libertarians have one critical flaw (well more than one actually, but let's go with one for now). They believe that trickle down and Libertarinism can work because corporations and businesses will follow the rules, which contend that acquired profits will be "trickled" back to the employees. Thus giving employees increased buying power, and will use it accordingly by increased purchasing, stimulating the economy. As we saw under Reagan, it didn't work. Instead corporations instituted expensive stock by back strategies. Some money found its way back to employees via more reputable and ethical corporations, but by and large the corps used it for their share holders and CEO's with expensive bonus packages. Republicans and Libertarians continue to misread the nature of people. They assume that businesses are more altruistic (and it's not even true altruism, but good policy) than they turn out to be. They ignore history and historical precedence. They were warned this would happen going into the debate over the passage of Trump's tax cut in 2017. It's not that they are overly optimistic when it comes to what can be expected from human nature, it's just that they are just not that bright.

@itsmedammi The unfortunate problem is that most of Trump's hardcore supporters aren't well educated. I'm speculating here, but I fear most of them hated school, barely got through and just managed to graduated high school. They are the type that have difficulty understanding context, cause-effect relationships, facts, and recognizing the credibility of the sources they choose. They hate history and using precedent from history to argue their case. When confronted with using historical context, the generally over simplify, generalize, and typically use the facts they have incorrectly. Therefore, they are not about to abandon Trump while he remains in office. Within 6 months of leaving office they will claim that nothing was their fault. They were duped by conman and it's not their fault. How could they have possibly known? Yeah right.

But Giuliani earned one Pinocchio for the "exaggeration" of referring to Sharpton as an Obama White House "close adviser. https://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2018/feb/09/glenn-grothman/gop-wisconsin-house-member-sharpton-visits-obama-w/ As you can see 56 were large events, The remainder were meetings that necessarily required Sharpton's feedback, as Sharption wielded significant power in the east coast black cimmunity. Not even close, and we dont know if or how many black cops that the KKK has killed, as that statistic doesn't get recorded. Your white privilege blinders just doesn't allow you see how so totally wrong you are.

@Trajan61 The two are not anywhere the same. Black Lives came about as a response to institutional racism to bring attention to the two justice systems. One for white privileges and another forvthevpoor andvminorities. Their message is that their lives matter as much as any white. White nationalists and unresponsive, unethical police forces pushed them to take a more radical stance. All groups have their extreme outliers. But by and large, Black Lives was not meant to be violent. They are responsible for a handful of police deaths. No excuse for that. Do you know how many people the KKK has killed or maimed? Of course you dont. The KKK was formed during Reconstruction out of hate. It was formed to keep blacks and Jews down by ignorant white trash. The white supremacists are scum and their white privilege paradigm is pure evil. There is no way, except on the most general, fallacious way can Black Lives and the KKK be conflated.

@Trajan61 Obama is not responsible for the Black Lives Matter movement ( which is a good movemrnt by the way). White privilege is responsible for its formation. Response to Travon Martin, Ferguson, Chicago and police institutionalized murders. It's a natural response to what police killings have been doing. The movement is just trying to point out the injustice of the institutionalized racism being practiced by many white cops and police departments. Obama did not bring that about. White cops did. I don't know about the number of visits Sharpton has had with Obama. I kind of doubt your claim as you are generally known to be unreliable when it comes to facts. I will research. Obama has to meet with Sharptin, as he is recognized as a prominent leader in the black community, whether you like him or not. He has every right to be radical given the racism his people gave endured. In his community he is considered just a voice that isnt afraid to speak out about injustices. He is fighting white privilege and I suppose its hitting too close to home for you to feel comfortable.

@Trajan6 You don't know facts, you think because a person of color speaks up they are racist. I told you once before a year ago that you suffer from "uppity bigger compkex". If a black man or womens sounds educated or erudite (look it up), you immediately classify them as an uppity bigger and dismiss then out of hand as acting beyond their station. You are a racist and do not even realize it. The reason that race relations worsened under Obama is that minorities finally had enough of the white privilege bullshit and because of changing demographics felt safe in standing up and speaking out. It didnt worsen, it just came out in the open because of Travon Martin and Ferguson. It always existed, but minorities didn't feel safe in bringing attention because of people like you. You bristle because you know its hitting too close to home. Obama spent the first 5 years actively denying the race problems. He didnt want it to appear that he. being the first black president, that he was taking sides and bringing his race into the Office of President. You are so misinformed and biased with your own white privilege, you'll never see the truth.

@zesty Zest, Zest. When I was growing up, "To serve and protect" was not a cliche. It was real. Bush militarized the police by selling police spare military ordinance and equipment after Iraq began to wind down. As a consequence, a paradigm shift occurred in this country. Once they obtained the military equipment upgrade, feeling their new power, they went from community protectors, to a confrontational force . This also resulted in the uglier side of the white dominated policing force to openly exercise their racism and biases, almost unimpeded. That is until Travon Martin's death and Ferguson brought into the light of day.

It is an irritant for mammals, including humans, and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes into contact. Formula: C18H27NO3 Solubility in water: 0.0013 g/100 mL https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsaicin

@avron Maybe the mistake is focusing on Trump too much and not putting an emphasis upon his supporters instead. Charlottesville and its aftermath resembles the descriptions of Germany and the rise of Nazism in the years prior to WWII. Albeit we havent had a Krystalnacht, but attacks feel very similar to the descriptions. Trumps followers do not wear brown shirts, en masse, but do have a rallying symbol, the MAGA hat. The raids and separations in Mississippi and the separations at the border of immigrants again feels a lot like Naxism. Hitler changed laws to make Jews, gypsy's, intellectuals, and gays, at first undesirables, then outlawed them altogether. Trump changed the laws surrounding immigrants at the border, from civil to criminal. In other words, he made southern immigrants criminal outlaws. Our border detention camps are beginning to feel like concentration camps. Perhaps no furnaces, but a separation of families, detention by gender, disregard for welfare, and a wonton abuse by the guards have been reported. There has even been recommendations by some Trump supporters that immigrants be required to wear identifiable clothing to immediately distinguish them as immigrants. Trump's hardcore following are made up of blue collar working class who have seen their jobs and livelihood move out of the country. They tend to be less educated and white. They feel left behind and effectively make up a class that 20 years ago prospered but have been slipping backwards the last couple of decades. They remember what better times looked like when manufacturing and non-corporate agriculture was strong. They were a form of white privilege that allowed them to be overtly racist and misogynistic without repercussions. We may not be in a world depression (yet) but his followers do not see it that way. To them they are living in depressed economic times.

@Matias I'm not sure there is such a thing as, "run of the mill racism". I agree that some racist are more virulent in their exercise of their hatred, but racism is racism. Trump's is just as dangerous as it steeped in what appears to conservatives as "reasonable" policy. Unfortunately, his policy actions have potentially long lasting effects and hidden affects that are not identified right away, but manifest down the line. Evangelical preachers and seeking to back Trump because of their desire to have conservative judges, and white supremicists are his army. Even if they do not like him as a person, he is furthering their cultural agenda. The rise in hate crimes against people of color, Jews, and the LGBTQ community is very much akin to the rise of brown shirts in 1933 through 1935. Trump's Nepolianic obsession with the military and the industrial-military complex. and growing of our weapons stockpile is not too dissimilar to your past. The dismantling of the foundations of our representative democracy and complete ignoring of the Legislative Branch's authority is leading him to a gathering of power no Presidrnt before has obtained or striven for. His actions are not identical to pre-WWII Germany, but similarities can be drawn. Outcomes may differ somewhat, but the overall feeling is similar.
