@Biosteelman In the context of American constitutional law, the definition of republic refers specifically to a form of government in which elected individuals represent the citizen body[2][better source needed] and exercise power according to the rule of law under a constitution, including separation of powers with an elected head of state, referred to as a constitutional republic[4][5][6][7] or representative democracy.[8] If the head of state of a republic is also the head of government, this is called a presidential system. There are a number of forms of presidential government. A full-presidential system has a president with substantial authority and a central political role. In liberal democracies presidents are elected, either directly by the people or indirectly by a parliament or council. Typically in presidential and semi-presidential systems the president is directly elected by the people, or is indirectly elected as done in the United States. In that country the president is officially elected by an electoral college, chosen by the States, all of which do so by direct election of the electors. The indirect election of the president through the electoral college conforms to the concept of republic as one with a system of indirect election. In the opinion of some, direct election confers legitimacy upon the president and gives the office much of its political power.[56] However, this concept of legitimacy differs from that expressed in the United States Constitution which established the legitimacy of the United States president as resulting from the signing of the Constitution by nine states.[57] The idea that direct election is required for legitimacy also contradicts the spirit of the Great Compromise, whose actual result was manifest in the clause[58] that provides voters in smaller states with more representation in presidential selection than those in large states; for example citizens of Wyoming in 2016 had 3.6 times as much electoral vote representation as citizens of California.[59]. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic The segment of article above describes the structure and the initial reason why the Electoral collrge was established. It doesn't say that the Electoral College is necessary to define a government as a Republic. In fact, It explains within the article that some Republics are direct election, some are Parlimentary Republics as well. There are several more types as well. The circumstances exant in 1776 are not necessarily relevant or appropriate for the make up of our modern society. To say the Constitution is inviolate is to disavow the Amendments. It is also to take away the rights of women and minorities. When the Constitution said "All men are created equal", it really meant that only white men ...

t1nick replies on Apr 2, 2019:
@Biosteelman It presumes that maling a choice agaisnt the electoral college, its impossible to have a Republic. Totally untrue. The Electoral college can be tweeked or eliminated and not lose the definition as a Republic. You gave people a false choice. No document inviolate, not the Constitution or the Bible, or the Koran. Things get added (amendments), things get adjusted to account for changing times, and can be eliminated. The Electoral College was added because the slave states wanted more presentation. They had a rural population and could not ompete with Industrial North. Much of thd population is spread put now, so we are not looking at the same dynamics.

t1nick replies on Mar 30, 2019:
@Piratefish. I agree that black fanatacism should not have a platform to spew their hatred any more than white nationalists should. But I definitely believe that blacks have a lot more to be mad about than white nationalists. White nationalist and whites have been in charge for over 500 years in this country. They held off Native, Black, Hispanic, and Asian peoples with superior weaponry for the first couple of centuries. Then through economic strangulation the last couple of centuries. As demographics change, the balance of power and access to economic opportunity is swinging towards equality. White supremicists think they are being unduly discriminsted against, but this is a myth. Its just equality finally looking like the actual demographics. I suspect the reason that media does not cover the type of hatred you point out is that it is mostly done in private and on the sly. Blacks, albeit making advances know that if they came out like the white nationalists did in Charlotte, they would be dealt with with a lot more severity than the white nationslists were. After Ferguson, Houston, and similar reactive protests, the BLM and Black Panthers were quite visible and outspoken. The media covered it and the backlash was loud, threatening, and fierce. So the media did cover it. P.S. The oldest video you show is 2015. White supremicists are pumping out their vile diatribeca much more prolific rate than the black nationalists. I agree with most people that the rise of Trump and his own vile racism has emboldened these white racists to become more visible and brazen. (certainly can't use brave and white supremicists in the same sentence).

I've been an atheist for 42 to years, so your ownership of atheism rings a little pompous. I concur, correlation does not prove causation, and yes it is ageist. However, we Boomers have ample causation for the present fuckups. Begin with Vietnam. to Iraq, to Libya and Syria, and culminating with this despotic president and corrupt Adminstration. Boomers were the greatest generation, "were". We rebounded after WWII and Korea. We made it to the moon. But as Boomers we tend to be backward looking. In general, we've lost the ability to look beyond the understandings we formed in the 70's and 80's. Our paradigms are worn and tired. We hold onto the status quo and resist necessary change. Even when the consequences of the status quo seeks to condemn our grandchildren to a quality of life less than what we had. Already our children, in general, find it more difficult to make a standard of living equivalent to what we had. Their children will have even less opportunity. Yes Boomers lead the world in innovation and progress. But time to step down and let new ideas have a chance going forward.

t1nick replies on Mar 25, 2019:
@Renickulous Wrong. It means Mueller realized that process and procedural problems would make indictment difficult. Part of why he punted it to the DOJ. Trumps guilt is undeniable. Only thing in question is whether the political climate, constitutional arguments concerning a sitting president, or the biased AG would allow for a confirmed guilty felony finding.

Open and shut cases are difficult to put together. Mueller realized that this case posed process problems on pursuing an indictment. Anyone with two eyes, two ears could watch the lies and inconsistencies by D. Trump over the last 2 1/2 years, but these form only circumstantial evidence. It takes more than his public guffaws to put together a case. Trumps guilt is without question by any reasonable person who values integrity, honesty, and character. I guess thats why its not important to Republicans.

@Trajan61. you have no way on knowing that. Mueller was a by the book investigator. He would not indict based upon the DOJ memo. That doesn't mean he hasn't paved the way for Congress and others to pursue. Trump and family are ate so guilty that its blatantly obvious to all but the most pigheaded among the population. The question is not so much as to their guilt, which really cannot be questioned, but rather is their substantial enough evidence to bring forward a case without tearing the country apart. Mueller is enough of a patriot as to have asked himself that.
