t1nick replies on Nov 11, 2018:
I disagree. While the general definition contends that a species is an organism that is able to interbreed and produce viable offspring, nature is flexible enough to respond to environmental pressures creatively. This one way in which new species evolve. Nature does not limit itself to our definition or understanding of processes. Reptiles and amphibians can be gender fluid as environmental stresses dictate. who's to say an interbreedibg between similar species cannot end in the creation of a new species.

I grew up lower middle class. I know yours and their travails. I agree with a lot you espouse, but its more than just money. Money is power true. Access to resources has always been a delimiting and mitigating factor in people becoming successful. The privileges being argued harkened all the way back histrorically with the roots of colonialism. I also disagree with your contention that the middle class should be left alone. If the middle class is the backbone of our society, then we are the ones that should be calling for a positive change. It would benefit them to welcome in the new wave of immigrants, minorities, and women. The success of these groups would not only stimulate our economy, but add a level of intellectual input to tackle new unforseen challenges that will need new ways of percieving to address. Forever yours, a middle class white male, now and firever.

t1nick replies on Nov 4, 2018:
There was never any mention about having to apologize for being a white male in the original post. That was introduced somewhere along the line by someone else. Perhaps someone who was feeling guilty, who knows. The point is that white males don't need to go around apologizing. Just realize that their contention about being abandoned is a myth. Instead realize that things are changing due to a natural swing in population dynamics. Accept the change and learn how to carve your place in a changing dynamic.

t1nick replies on Nov 3, 2018:
@Wellspring. No it has to do with culture. Its not the politics so much as cultural values that are strict. While their students do well on the Pisa, they often lack creativity and out of the box thinking which is often the spring board for advances in all fields. Not only that, but the only students who take the Pisa in Malaysia are those students who have been culled as exceptional. Therefore Malaysias brightest and best end up taking the test. ONLY THEIR BEST AND BRIGHTEST. We on the other hand, being a democracy allow anyone who wants to get an advanced education take the test. This means that we average in the best and the brightest as well as the less adept in our test scores. Our scores represent a greater cross section of our population. So you are comparing apples and oranges.

t1nick replies on Nov 3, 2018:
Partially true but not completely. Whites have been in control since they first arrived. First through superior weaponry. Then in access to avenues and power through money and influence. In the last decade, changing demographics have shifted the power base somewhat. Increasing minority population have been able to wrench some of the conventional power from the white demographic, particularily middle class white males. This group had always been able lord themselves over the other minority groups with more or less impunity. As the power bases shifted and liberals responded by demanding greater political correctness, the white male contigency came under scrutiny and pressure to change their ways and manners. They responded by feeling disenfranchised and polarized. Not used to being called on their crap, and not the type given to deep introspection, they in turn rebelled. The important point is that they were not disenfranchised. what they were feeling was equality. Equality on the part of the real segments which had been disenfranchised. Minorities were claiming their rights and demanding equal treatment. Middle class white males who had never been called to a accountability suddenly were being held accountable. They didnt like having to play nice. They werent forgotten, neglected, or forsaken, they were just feeling what equality felt like when others demanded their share.

t1nick replies on Nov 1, 2018:
FOX and their Evangelical horde aren't pro-Isreal for Israel's sake. They have an alterior agenda. Evangelicals believe that the second coming is very near. That to realize the events necessary for setting the stage for this happening, according to the new testament, it is necessary to move the capital to Jerusalem. It necessary to foment unrest among the Palestinians, and to tear down the Muslim Temple on top of Temple Mount and replace with a Jewish Synagogue. So their motives are suspect and has little or nothing to do with helping Isreali Jews. After all the Jews won't be taken up when the Second Coming occurs according to Evangelicals.

t1nick replies on Oct 14, 2018:
Proof is relative. If proof to you is something tangible that you can hold in your hand, you're right there is nothing tangible that you can hold regarding the multiverse controversy. But to say there is no proof is to disregard a substantial body of work that began with the simple and tangible (Newton-apple falling from tree) and added layers building up to the present hypothetical understanfing. Each step along the way was laboriously checked and cross-checked for clarity and consistency with prevailing understanding of the known math and physics that exists. It is not a frivolous idea or a frivolous concept. It is backed up and supported by a substsntisl corpus of peer reviewed work. Yes faith does play a role. I cannot understand the complex mathematical iterations involved. But I trust the mathematicians and scientists who peer reviewed the foundational work all along the way. Therefore, I place my faith in the body of work, that they are following proper scientific procedures and their resesrch is sound.

Serious thought-provoking question. Why are some tortillas sold as "taco size"?

You have standard burrito size (flour), you have extra large (flour) that are used for burros, chimichangas, etc.

@TheGreatShadow major fast food restaurants are poor imitations of real mexican food. One cannot judge Mexican food byTaco Bell, del Taco or any of the other cheap imitations out there. Find someplace that is family run and the family is 1st or wnd generation immigrant. Then you'll get real Mexican.

Im not sure you realize how polarized society become. Its even more polarized than it was from 1968-1973. during the Vietnam era, which I was a party to. Its worse now. You will get a lot of blow back as there are a lot of liberals (not all liberals are extremist as you propose, we just care about others being able to share in the bounties of this great society = fairness). So if you see it as your job to offend, do not be surprised when people get offended. Its not their fault, you are now aware of their sensitivities, so you bear the burden of your own actions. It is true the definition for species can be problamatical at times. It is not a complete definition by any means. However, given the number is"species" that exist today, have existed in the past, what you refer are primarily exceptions to the rule. And exceptions do not define the rule. Just the other day, I listened to a report about a cockroach that does not reproduce by laying eggs which is part of the definition for an insect. Instead it has live birth and produces milk crystal to feed its young. This indeed an exception. But do we throughout the classification for all insects due to this one exception? I think not.

t1nick replies on Jul 26, 2018:
@AmelieMatisse Here you Amelie, as you requested. I hope you like it. Kipling's appeal is a guy thing, and this was written in a Kinplingesque fashion. here goes; I Fear the Coming of the Sirocco Wind by Terrill Nickerson March 2002 A prisoner of the Barchan dunes, trudging through the sucking sands. My life well spent, to end so soon, in this hot and stinking land. With each succeeding step my fate unfolds, captive of this oubliette . Truth be known, my regrets remain untold, no other comrades have I met. Memories blur, actual reasons fade, why we ventured on this hell’s campaign. Redress for a rebellious Satrap made, in reprisal for a treaty feigned. The papers cried a patriotic, “Call to Arms.” “All young men, your glory seek, In foreign lands our interests harmed, Join the Legion, don’t be weak.” I heard the call, the desert Chasseurs joined, a proud elite, and famous force. Hopes and dreams of gems and gold purloined, off Bedouins of manners coarse. We started out that clear and fateful day, Arrogant and resplendent dressed. All in-line, we left the fort, our fears at bay, so self-assured, an easy quest. A half mile long our retinue ran, guns and infantry to the front. Past Roman forts trekked our intrepid van, intent upon our vengeful hunt. Three days out we met our gathered host, near a wadi , dry and bleak. They had the high ground, we set our post, preparing for the horde to peak. We hid ourselves among the scraggy trees, as enemy ordinance whistled near. Soon it was apparent for all to see, all would lose their life so dear. As the day wore on, and into night, amid the wails and cries of dying men. I sought refuge from this hellish nightmare rid, among the rocks in some warren. Nightfall came and none too soon, I crawled amongst my fallen comrades all. Into the depth of night I crept, appalled, to save my life my senses called. I can not say how long I crawled, my only thought, to be far away. Seas of sand, within which I’m walled, Will claim my bones upon this day. My strength ebbs forth, as I breach the dune, I fear the coming of the Sirocco wind. A zephyr breeze whispers death too soon, And I curse the lowly Bedouin.
