Objection! I have a 1'x3' planter for growing salad lettuce. I purchased 2 6-paks and planted into organic soil mix in the planter, forming a nice quick-growing blanket of leaf lettuce. I snip 1/2 the lot at a time, refrigerate in a ziplock bag, gives me about 3 dinner salads. Then the next 1/2 has fully regrown, ready to snip, a wonderful system for not buying salad greens all summer!

tinkercreek comments on Aug 5, 2020:
I agree, though I have sometimes found online contacts to be a bit concerning in terms of their mental health. Even if I haven't shared personal information (and know it can be found), I have sometimes opted for a "oh, sorry, just got busy/ill/met someone else" to play dumb and not offend or endanger myself. And yes, I've been there, too.

tinkercreek comments on Aug 1, 2020:
Finally, we seem to be on our way to a solution better than cremation! In my early 30's, I worked as office assistant for the Oregon Funeral Directors Association (state membership office, not a mortuary), quickly learning how that industry rakes in large sums of money for services requiring a very few hours of time and effort, and overpriced goods. I processed prepaid contracts, typically made for being seen as the only option, and grieving family members often added their own funds to complete a "respectable funeral service". Funeral Directors were very nice folks, often holding successful businesses passed down through wealthy generations like a well-kept secret, so who wouldn't be happy? I would bet the mortuary business will want to block this idea, but it sounds like those grad students are doing a great job of minding every detail and with luck, we will have the option!

tinkercreek comments on Jul 28, 2020:
This article is spot on! I'm still not sure why it's accompanied by this photo. Eyes always hidden by sunglasses, always scowling in photos , careless dressing and poor grooming, vehicles, exposed body parts, dead fish and animals - those are not just useless but most often disgusting. I have sometimes wondered if a buddy says "Older women are desperate, so just find a picture with you in it and say you're a romantic, it'll work".

What are your feelings about cologne.
tinkercreek comments on Jul 27, 2020:
I have never been fond of strong or sweet fragrances, but enjoyed more woods/spice/floral scents. After working decades in a scent-free setting I am so sensitive to artificial fragrance and those awful cotton-candy-sweet lines that I tag myself as 'allergic'. Most men's fragrances, used sparingly, are much nicer. When I feel like using scent these days, it's usually Paloma Picasso.

tinkercreek comments on Jul 24, 2020:
From someone who eats more vegetable-based than meat, I like the idea of meat alternatives (palatability aside), but can't stop wondering about possible long-term health implications from consuming lab-grown meat, possible contaminations, etc. There are several articles of research available online, and I am excited by things like "A 2011 study found that clean meat produces 78 to 96 percent lower greenhouse gas emissions, uses 99 percent less land and between 82 and 92 percent less water. Research at the Good Food Institute has concluded that a cell culture the size of one chicken egg can produce a million times more meat than a chicken barn stacked with 20,000 chickens". For those who really want meat-like foods, that is a huge win for all of us!

Let's get real about online dating.
tinkercreek comments on Jul 21, 2020:
I have several long-term platonic friends that I've met via online dating, which has been a very nice thing. I have also had 2 relationships of 6 and 7 yrs, one a marriage and one shared residence. As employed adults who don't hang out in bars or big social groups, it was a good way of meeting. One thing I don't see anyone else bringing forward is the number of men in their 50's-80's on the unpaid sites, who set search parameters several decades below their age. I had returned to the search at age 53 and was baffled by the lack of responses so, back when POF allowed it, I re-set my age to 48 - bingo! The hits came flooding in to the same profile and pics, though men seemed unconcerned when I told my real age. WTF? Paying for a dating site is something I will no longer do, but I did jump back in out of boredom and search by eliminating any xtian affiliations. Perhaps that puts me in a somewhat 'insincere' category, but it's good entertainment and I have connected with someone locally who will likely be a friend!
