He escaped to the US on a freighter when he was 17, working the coal mines in West Virginia up to a Beverly Hillbilly's dream (another story). I agree with Allamanda regarding the storage time and issues, along with my overall discomfort that people are so dependent on having someone else prepare and serve their food, on a very regular basis. The shuttered restaurants, bars, cafes and food carts are such a blaring reminder that people are now preparing more of their own meals as they shelter in place. I am distraught over others losing their income source, even temporarily, but it seems so bourgeois, selfish and unhealthy that society has moved to such a structure. Is there some contemporary shame in cooking your own food?

It's true! My little neighborhood has been gathering for 'distanced' Happy Hours on a common lawn every Friday. They start an hour or so before I get home from work so everyone waves, calls out, and raises their glass as I drive in. I park and take my things inside, give Chelsea her dinner, and as I let her out back I'll spy a couple weeds to pull, then something that needs trimming, some mulch to smooth over . . . and have no interest in leaving the plants for those nice folks out front.

What a cute girl! Mine has osteoarthritis in several joints, and I recently was reading on remedies on my own aches, followed an online rabbit trail to pet remedies. Green-lipped mussels, grown in clean waters, are now being processed & sold in capsule, said ti be a great help (I also do glucosamine/chondroitin tabs). Within a couple weeks I found myself noticing how much more active she was, and remembered the time frame in starting these. Hard to tell if that's the key for her, but I'll continue as long as she shows improvement!

Love this stuff! I had a friend a couple years ago who was a serious artifact hunter, scouring riverbanks in Oregon and Washington. He had a practiced eye in spotting things most folks would not notice and it was fun to learn a few things. I was able to find a few small points and other items, and purchased some things from a friend of his, serious collector with several small rooms of native artifacts and displays.

Dede, I was also slender and tall, 5'10.5", and my mother at almost 5'9" had married my dad of MAYBE 5'7". She would coach me to "just bend your knees as you walk" to appear shorter, and thus I lived with constant shame of my height. She was also quite heavy, and I viewed myself through the lens of her obesity, thinking I was the same. With no encouragement to exercise or maintain health I gained weight through high school and college, making it so. I somehow began to educate myself in nutrition and fitness, changed habits and lost the weight. I was able to pass along to my daughter and son appreciation of being tall and healthy, now valued in their young familes. Natural changes of this life stage are challenging with the slowed metabolism, but I also remain haunted by those early messages. It seems to create an anxiety and helplessness over body image that will likely never leave entirely. Staying true to my ongoing health and managing new changes as best I can is a constant victory, and sounds like you do the same - we can do this!
