tinkercreek comments on Jul 29, 2019:
I wrote a paper in college that in essence, and in retrospect, described our boomer generation as a living transition of post-war era family structure. Most family farms and home groupings had been divided and dissolved, while industrialization, electronics and women in the workforce changed the earnings base and home structure as never before, and married couples were just expected to carry on in the same way? We had no model or counsel on navigating the expectations of one another and changes in married life that were born of all those changes in an historically short period of time. Without intent to fail or betray, the needs and securities of married life that our parents and grandparents knew was pulled from underneath us as we so desperately tried to live up to those standards. So here we are, navigating unknown waters to fill the void of being without partner. Organic means of meeting suitable partners through friends and common interests are nearly non-existant in a striated society of individuals. Even still, we persist. To find a new partner in sync, each with several decades of experience, preferences, and interests? Don't get me started.

30-some-odd years ago when I was a young adult, I had a healthy body but a mind that was a wreck.
tinkercreek comments on Jul 28, 2019:
I'm with you, sister! Took time to get to know and appreciate my later-life self, taking care of life and home, welcoming grandkids and minding my health. A few random aches and pains, then suddenly I am facing a hip replacement and/or back issues. Who knew?!
Almost vegan dinner.
tinkercreek comments on Jul 27, 2019:
Wouldn't some nice cumin be good with all those veges? I only discovered and incorporated into my cooking a few years ago, and found that it lends such a warm richness to so many ingredients.

That is a great read, Deiter. Remembering and considering those feelings took me back to a good space, an appreciation for how we viewed the world decades ago. Perhaps from the viewpoint of being single now, I've realized there cannot be a love like my first, regardless of being an unsuitable relationship. Feeling buoyed and looking forward with innocent promise was a gift of the times, and I agree the boyfriend/girlfriend labels are a comforting reminder of that, appropriateness be damned. Congrats on the job, though it may be transient. Working under someone you like and respect, regardless of generation, is a fantastic experience. Oh, and thanks for the pic of Sam . . . oh my!
Beautiful hike today to Lanham Lake, WA. A vicious dog was worrisome.
tinkercreek comments on Jul 27, 2019:
Perfectly beautiful photos, thank you! Glad there was no harmful interaction, but I'm always saddened that irresponsible dog owners create anxious and hostile attitudes that impact an otherwise lovely experience.

tinkercreek comments on Jul 17, 2019:
l am the middle of 3 girls, all just a couple yrs apart. It wasn't until college dorm chat that I realized how odd my home life had been, then learning over years and counseling that much of that was due to my dad's PTSD from Korea. A home with 3 little girls, and a demand for quiet?? Resultant of that, at least in part, was not forming good relationships, furthered by my mom's well-intentioned but ill-crafted meddling as we became adults. Our parents died young, years ago. My younger sister found salvation to a volatile marriage by embracing/demanding evangelical christianity, forever after judging all others as inferior. Yep. So interesting, for two people who had never engaged in any religion! I had maintained good communication with her, but she reached a point of being visibly uncomfortable with anyone outside that cult, which was sad. I still reach out from time to time, then she drifts off. Fortunately, her sons are consistently caring and welcoming of me, which is very dear. My older sister had a rather volatile run of marriages and choices, and was diagnosed with MS at age 60, with a steep decline physically and cognitively. We had always connected with something more akin to solidarity than closeness, and I keep good contact with her brilliant daughter. She now has a rather comical way of trying to express as matriarch, offering advice and direction with no anchor in reality, but in good humor. Future yrs are a bit uncertain, but my niece and I have a bond of looking out for her. Researching ancestry has been an amazing source of family love for me, finding cousins I never knew of and learning history no one had cared about!
