Can a 2nd grader be unpatriotic?
tioteo comments on Nov 26, 2017:
I was in elementary school--fourth grade, I think--when "under God" was added. It was back when the communist threat was felt so much. The antidote to that was Christianity, or so the logic went. Separation of church and state was conveniently ignored. It reminds me a great deal of many people's logic nowadays.
Hello from Ireland, who needs a holiday ? ????
tioteo comments on Nov 16, 2017:
I'd love a holiday. I'll be having one in February when I head to the Outer Banks. Some day I'd like to visit your lovely country, but I'm doubtful that will transpire. Where is your home, if you don't mind telling?
Hello everyone. I'm new to this. Hoping to make a few friends.
tioteo comments on Nov 16, 2017:
Hello. May your sojourn here be productive.
Are religious people afraid of science because god lives in the gaps?
tioteo comments on Nov 16, 2017:
Man is superstitious by nature. The less he understood, the more he tried to explain with myth, and the myths became the heart of religion. As empirical knowledge progressed, the tenets of religion came more into question. People don't like to have their lifelong "truths" shown to be false, so they push back. Sad, but true.
A Christian sink. Amen or Hallelujah?
tioteo comments on Nov 16, 2017:
"It's a miracle!"
Hello everyone, I'm Dave, a former Christian turned agnostic with a father who's a pastor.
tioteo comments on Nov 15, 2017:
It is difficult to admit agnosticism when you're the only in your family with this outlook. It's best to be honest with yourself and true to yourself. You have to live with yourself all the time; the same is not true for others.
I’m just having a really quiet weekend. There ain’t nothing wrong with that.
tioteo comments on Nov 11, 2017:
Quiet is underappreciated. I'm glad you see that. Enjoy!
Do you ever think about how cruel evolution is?
tioteo comments on Nov 11, 2017:
I've had a similar thought before. Back when I was young and horny, I was in such a hurry to do everything, feel everything, get everything. Now, I realize that was impossible; life is a journey, not a destination.
What is the non-theist replacement for "I'll pray for you?"
tioteo comments on Nov 10, 2017:
I say something like "I'll be hoping for a good outcome" for you.
We are all part of a greater whole, but we are undeniably individuals. How do you balance the two?
tioteo comments on Nov 10, 2017:
We can't control the whole, only that part which we ourselves comprise, which, when we know how vast the universe is, constitutes not even a blip; therefore, we must not overestimate our importance to the grand scheme or even to the human scheme.
Should this girl's parents be prosecuted?
tioteo comments on Nov 10, 2017:
I've seen too many--and even one is too many--children die from lack of proper medical care denied to them by parents such as this young girl's.
How do you deal with Door-knockers?
tioteo comments on Nov 7, 2017:
My uncle was looking outside his front window a number of years ago. He saw 2 JWs going from door to door, heading his way. It was an older woman and younger girl, maybe 20 or so. They stepped on the porch and he opened the door with "Howdy, gals! Come on in. The old lady's gone and we can have a good time!" They took off as if someone were shooting at them.
General Profanity for Non-Believers
tioteo comments on Nov 6, 2017:
Not really. Reflexes are reflexes, whether verbal or bodily. Personally, I don't like to curse, but it does come out.
