Now my little guy who's now 12, got a light spanking last year as his mouth runs away from him, over and over. I told him he's way to old and should be embarrassed by getting this. You don't talk to me this way, plain and simple, non negotiable. Do I talk to you like this? ?? Yeah, I didn't think so, and I don't deserve it, and in turn, you will get what you deserve. @rayfunrelax We've had many conversations about this. They have many meatless meals at my house, so they know meat is not necessary all of the time. Then it goes on to the next battle: Vegetables! Then Sugar! So...I weave my way through this half assed, I guess. We manage. The best I can do is open their eyes. They may well see me as a flawed human instead of "Super Dad", and I treat them as regular kids, little people. My older boy, 15, was watching the Amazon burn on TV a few weeks ago. He brought a question up about it.....I answered: " It's the Hamburgers Joe". Joe LOVES hamburgers. But it was a moment for him to understand the true cost of that burger. That cow. I don't wanna lay a guilt trip on him. He's a good kid. No he's a GREAT Kid !. #1 thing he learns from me is cultural (religious) expectations are what rules most people's lives. We have some lively discussions.....And he gets it! Totally. I get on a rant, he laughs his ass off! I believe that mostly what we eat is a cultural thing. Hopefully my children will tie eating in with all of the other expectations they are expected to live up to, see it for what it is and then make their own good choices. First they have to know that there are indeed choices! Perhaps the easy thing is to call me a hypocrite. But I don't claim to be vegan or vegetarian, or any of the labels. I was in Boston Common a couple of weeks ago. There were four women, I thinks JW's, handing out pamphlets holding up a sign that read: 18 things you must tell your Children ( or something like that). My kids 15 & 12 are non-believers in a very believing community. They seem to be holding up well, but I fear the worse is yet to come. My eyes burnt a hole through her, no doubt. Even I was a little shocked at how immediately this pissed me off. My immediate thoughts were that children aren't the problem, maybe there are 18 things adults need to hear!

Which is OK, but don't badger me to talk, when it's actually YOU who refuses to open up. I should note that she was "unique". She played the depression card over and over. Until lo and behold, the depression was caused ....by Me! Big Question: Yes, I believe that they do. When I look back, what I couldn't overcome "romantically" (flowers, gifts, saying the "right' thing) was because the stress of the relationship was dumped on me.
