I have never hated women but for a fact, women, a bigger percentage of them but not all do hate me, ...
webbew1 comments on May 15, 2018:
I read your bio and took a look at your pictures. You're clearly a very intense person who has fearlessly taken on some big and important issues in a country where doing so in the public square can easily get you killed. You're going to need to keep company with women who can match your wavelength. There's absolutely nothing wrong with you as a person as far as I can tell. In fact, if what you wrote in your bio is all true, you're pretty freaking awesome. But the average individual will not be able to match your intensity or your drive and will in fact be intimidated by it. You're just going to have to learn to live with that and become comfortable in your own skin.

What's worse? Misandrism or misogynism? They are both rampant in US!
webbew1 comments on May 14, 2018:
That's like asking whether it's worse to get kicked in the nuts or kneed in the nuts. As a guy, I really couldn't give less of a crap about misandrists. If you are a woman who hates men, you can pound sand in the other direction as far as I'm concerned. My life is better off without you anywhere near it. As for misogynists, any guy who believes that an adult woman does not have the right to equal pay and opportunity in the work place and the right to make her own decisions regarding her own body isn't worth my time either. Men like that are living in the past, and if they had their way we'd still be living in log cabins and tilling the ground with mules.
Mountains, Ocean or Desert? Ocean for me, I love the Beach..
webbew1 comments on May 14, 2018:
Ocean. I lived in San Francisco for three years and I miss it very much. Denver and it's mountain ranges are nice and all, but there's something about the sunset on a beach and watching the tide crash in to the rocks along the shore line (especially on a foggy day) that is really life affirming.
Which Star Trek series is your favorite?
webbew1 comments on May 14, 2018:
Deep Space Nine Star Trek reached its peak with this series. The exceptional writing, character development, social commentary and occasional humor which showed up only sporadically in TOS and Next Generation were present consistently in this show. There were very few throw away episodes of DS9.
Dating a sociopath: a common experience for women
webbew1 comments on May 13, 2018:
Unfortunately, most women don't even begin to entertain the thought of leaving a sociopath until children are involved. They ignore the red flags for years on end, and when they've finally had enough of the escalating violence, philandering and apathy, leaving the situation is very difficult and dangerous. Some advice on identifying a sociopath: At the beginning of the relationship, always observe how they treat others when they think that you're not looking. They will treat you well at the beginning because they have an agenda. But if they're nasty to service people or other strangers, cut and run before it's too late. That, or deal with the future consequences. It's up to you.

Pretty much everything Steven Wilson has ever written. Postcard, Drive Home, Heartattack In A Layby, The Raven That Refused To Sing, Routine, Lazarus, Stop Swimming, Happy Returns.... That's just the quieter numbers which will rip your heart out. Even some of his rockers like Arriving Somewhere But Not Here and Anesthitize can get the listener all misty eyed.

webbew1 comments on May 13, 2018:
I'm adopted and have never met my birth mom, so no personal thanks will be extended today for that particular endeavor on her part. Apparently, my biological father was an Air Force pilot who knocked up an opera singer. Given those genes, I have to wonder how I turned out so goddamn fat, ugly and dumb. I did get the singing voice from my biological mom though. So there's that. Alzheimers took my adopted mom from this mortal coil three years ago, so I'll just go ahead and wish all of you out there who are mothers a Happy Mothers Day in her stead.

Drive-in movies
webbew1 comments on May 13, 2018:
Sadly, no memories of amorous activities at the drive in, but I do have two that stand out. First one was a summer ending triple feature of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and When Worlds Collide back in 7th grade. By the time When Worlds Collide began rolling, everybody else was asleep and I felt like I was discovering a little gem that all my friends were missing out on. When Worlds Collide still remains my all time favorite B film to this day. Second one is from my junior year in college. Keystone Light had just been introduced on the market and they were running an introductory special of $1.00 per case. My friends and I decided that we were going to buy a bunch of Keystone Light, go the the drive in movies and get absolutely shit faced. Little did we realize that Keystone Light is yellow piss water. Not beer. We must have drank four cases of that crap between us and didn't even catch a buzz. All we did is piss twice an hour for the next 24 hours.

We'll be shunned as a rogue nation unfit for membership in the global community. And that's exactly what we will be.

webbew1 comments on May 9, 2018:
While I certainly think it is great to be realistic when talking to children about religion and belief, the approach of allowing them to speak openly with disdain and derision regarding the topic in the public square may not serve them well in future endeavors. Religious people of all creeds exist everywhere on the planet, and we all have to deal with them on a one on one basis every single day. Be it through our employer or as a part of our interactions with strangers in the street. You might as well be trying to teach your children to stop the flow of a fire hose with their face. When they grow up, they will need to interact with all sorts of people of varying beliefs, and they will need to do so cordially. Even if they do not share in thos beliefs. Making public statements such as, "we don't believe in Jewish zombies" may fly ok on a place like Agnostics.com. But that kind of statement could lead to unneccessary and avoidable trouble in the real world.

Why do you think some people have such an aversion to homosexualtiy, trans etc.
webbew1 comments on May 8, 2018:
Homophobia is the direct result of someone who is deeply in denial of their own homosexuality. It's the classic case of someone hating most what they can't stand in themselves. This is why you always see these anti-homosexuality preachers getting caught in a parked car by the police trying to pay some male prostitute for a blowjob.

Do you have fear or peace about yourself dying someday?
webbew1 comments on May 7, 2018:
I often find myself contemplating my own mortality. I'm 52 years old now, and it seems like just yesterday I was standing outside on the lawn with my friends after graduating from college. I think about how quickly those 30 years have passed and I wonder if I'll just wake up tomorrow and find myself 85 years old, waiting to kick the bucket. I think about how I've fallen spectacularly flat on my face in achieving every single one of the life goals I set for myself when I was younger and wonder if there's even enough time or resources remaining to get back up off the mat and try again. So it's less the fear of mortality that haunts me. It's more the fear of leaving the world worse off when it comes my time to check out. It's also the fear of growing old and having to keep on working even as tasks become harder and harder to complete. I've always said that I'll probably never be able to retire. I'll be working until the day I keel over, and then they'll piss on my grave for having the audacity to die while on the clock.
Has anyone rested successfully on a red eye?
webbew1 comments on May 7, 2018:
When flying coach for long haul flights of 10 - 15 hours, I try to get as comfortable as possible. I have the best travel pillow available on the market and some excellent eye shades that I bought at Brookstone. Both were expensive, but well worth it. I also have a pair of really comfortable slippers that I put on prior to boarding the aircraft. There is no such thing as "getting comfortable" in coach on long haul flights. All one can do is minimize the misery. As for sleep, in order to minimize jet lag I get as much as I can on the plane. Without the use of drugs or alcohol. I try to arrive at my travel location as close to the local time where I would be going to bed if I was at home. I get a good nights sleep and wake up in the morning just like it's a regular day. Not thinking about the fact that if I was at home I'd be winding down for the day instead of having breakfast.

How do people within this group define "liberal"?
webbew1 comments on May 3, 2018:
A liberal is one who believes that a society functions best when tasks related to the common good are shared by all members of that society. A conservative is one who believes that a society functions best when the individual is allowed to serve their own best interest.

That's how a free and open society works. I don't like organized religion either. I also don't like boy bands. They negatively effect my life every single day and contribute to the dumbing down of society as a whole. But much as I can't stand boy bands and will always encourage others to develop more refined tastes, I will never call for the outlaw of boy bands at the point of a gun. You'll be happy to know that there is indeed a place where religion is outlawed at the point of a gun. It's called North Korea. I wouldn't suggest moving there.

Gave up after the first episode. It's as incompetently written as Star Trek Discovery. Can somebody please explain to me how it can be raining on a planet where it is supposedly so cold that approximately 24 ounces of water freezes solid in mere seconds? Or how people who are walking around on said planet can be dressed like its a somewhat chipper early fall morning without freezing to death in less than an hour? That's about as incompetent as klingons with warp drive technology who apparently don't know what a light bulb is or sound waves which somehow travel in space. I'm talking to you, STD writers. For anybody who is looking for competently written scjence fiction, I recommend The Expanse on SyFy. If you can make it through the first four episodes, which are a bit slow and dry as characters and situations are introduced, you'll be rewarded with a riveting space opera.

I no longer believe in the institution of marriage.
webbew1 comments on Apr 30, 2018:
Your mileage may vary. The thing about marriage is, as a couple you have to be pretty damn sure you're both in it for the long haul. Especially when kids enter into the equation. That's why I think couples should wait at least five years after tying the knot to have their first child. If you're not absolutely certain that you're cut out for marriage, it's better just to play the field and have fun living the single life and wait to see if something permanent eventually clicks.

webbew1 comments on Apr 29, 2018:
I did see a really interesting documentary on how science has used modern technology to reveal the face and body of the person who was wrapped in the shroud of Turin. Amazing what forensic science can accomplish these days. Was this person Jesus Christ? Who knows? But it is clear that the person who was wrapped in the shroud of Turin was tortured to death, and the wounds on the body match those described in the Bible. That's not really defining evidence one way or the other. Torture techniques used during that time period were probably pretty consistent.

A research project: What caused your shift away from religion?
webbew1 comments on Apr 27, 2018:
I grew up in a catholic family, and somewhere around the the 7th or 8th grade, they have this "voluntary" activity (voluntary meaning your parents voluntell you you'll be doing it) called a search weekend (actually four days), which amounts to an extended brainwashing session. You arrive at a designated location on a Friday afternoon. A building (usually a catholic school) with all of the clocks removed and all of the windows blacked out so you can't tell what time of day it is. Over the next four days, you are bombarded with catholic doctrine constantly and allowed very little food or sleep. Now... even at this age I knew damn well what the hell brainwashing was. Yet, they kept on telling us, "it's not brainwashing because the Pope approves it". I remember thinking to myself, let me get this straight: Does this mean that if there is a turd on my plate during dinner, if the Pope says it's not a turd then I should go ahead and eat it? I survived that four day crazy fest, and it wound up having the exact opposite of the intended effect on me. It turned me off of organized religion completely.

Get a second opinion. I always feel that an honest evaluation is best when it comes to my customers, but garage doors can be very dangerous, so I always encourage them to pursue a second opinion but to do so as quickly as possible.

Of course, I'm in favor of support programs for those who are unable to work due to debilatating injury or loss of mental faculties. However, for those who are capable, I'm more in favor of public work programs. Well... public work programs is what the socialists call them anyway. Conservatives call them work for welfare programs. Just saw a movie called The Cure For Wellness last month. There was an extremely graphic scene in which a moose runs out in to the road and gets hit by a car. Completely unneccesary to the forward motion of the story.
