I think "trickle down theory" is the biggest, and mo successful, "con job" ever played.
webbew1 comments on Dec 1, 2017:
Excellent evaluation. Trickle down is the biggest load of horse shit ever shoveled. The sad thing is, people keep falling for it. Supporters of trickle down are able to get away with selling this bill of goods because they keep promising tax cuts to the middle and lower classes. Sounds good, right? The ruse is up once one realizes that their tax cut amounts to about forty bucks a year while a billionaires tax cut amounts to hudreds of thousands. How exactly does that provide the lower and middle class with more money to help stimulate the economy?

Welcome to the fold, Sister in Christ! Services are held every Wednesday and Sunday and are mandatory unless you have been granted direct consent from myself to abstain. Common acceptable excuses for abstention include those instances in which I have determined that you have a severe illness which requires you to be bed ridden or if I have chosen you as a member of the inner circle and sent you out in to the heathen world to spread the good news. Please remit all of your earthly posessions to myself immediately. Also, have you wired all funds from your personal and business bank accounts to the account number in the Cayman Islands which I have provided you? Please make sure ALL funds are emptied from your accounts IMMEDIATELY. Money is the mark of satan, and posession of so much as the smallest denomination shall lead to eternal damnation in the fires of hell. Again.... welcome! The sisters of the inner circle will provide you with the cloth worn by all members of the commune during your welcoming ceremony this evening. You may now commence to go forth in to yonder grove of trees to pick the initiation switch which will be utilized this evening to cleans the sins of your previous life.

webbew1 comments on Dec 1, 2017:
I've had friends who are both racist and homophobic, but I make it very clear early on that they can keep their views on those topics to themselves. Any attempt to bring up that kind of bullshit in a manner which is demeaning or threatening to persons of a specific race or sexual orientation will end the conversation immediately, and they know very well that this is non-negotiable. I've always believed that one can do no good in the world by refusing to be friends with people who dislike others due to their race or sexual orientation. The best way to change a persons viewpoint is to lead by example. One cannot lead by example if they refuse to interact with those whom they wish to change.

webbew1 comments on Dec 1, 2017:
Interesting article. Might explain why people who have had NDE's describe moving towards a great light. Of course, nay sayers always pass this experience off as the last dying embers of the lower functioning parts of the brain, but they can never explain why the individual who has had the NDE can describe or oven recollect the experience in the first place, given that in their view all higher thinking functions have ceased. This might offer some insight in to an explanation. The Tibetan Book Of The Dead says that our life experience is meant to prepare us for the journey we will take once we leave our bodies and temporarily reintigrate with the light. It also says that the next physical body we inhabit will depend upon how well we have prepared ourselves in our current life. Did we make a concerted effort to strengthen the light which makes up our life force? Or did we weaken it through greedy, selfish and malevolent behavior? Hence, if true, someone like Adolf Hitler is scurrying around in the dark corners of somebody's kitchen today while somebody who did good in their previous incarnation has ascended to a higher existence than they lived in their former life.

They claimed that this task would be completed within a years time. What a joke! Here we are one year later, and not only are we still deeply embroiled in the middle east, but we're also on the brink of war on the Korean Peninsula as well. Could this situation possibly suck any worse?

I'm more apt to believe that most supernatural events will eventually have a logical explanation. Let's take EVP's for example. These are likely not ghosts. More probably, they are simply events somehow imprinted on the space/ time continuum much as a voice is imprinted on a tape recorder. How? This is something we have yet to figure out, but one day will. And I highly doubt that ghosts will have anything to do with it.

Chemo and/ or surgery first to hit the cancer hard, and then natural methods to stabilize body chemistry and allow my immune system to begin operating normally again.

Gene Roddenberry was definitely a socialist. No, I don't think we'll ever move away from some form of currency. We're likely to continue to move away from paper currency as technology advances, but most likely all transactions will be done over the information super highway by then. Should there be some kind of apocalypse where all technology is destroyed, there by sending us back to the middle ages, we'll simply go back to the barter system.

I was standing there thinking to myself, if I walk up to one of the store employees and ask them if they have Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Mint and they tell me that Ghirardelli has never made a Dark Chocolate Mint flavor, I'm going to crap my pants right here in the candy aisle. Fortunately, I saw the Dark Chocolate Mint ones in Walgreens later, so my close brush with the Mandela Effect was averted.

I've been a bit off balance myself of late, but my situation is due more to being cooped up than it is for clinical reasons. Unfortunately, it's just been too damn warm outside. The work I do relies on extreme cold and extreme heat. Garage doors don't break when the weather is nice. Hence, the last three weeks have been bad. Consequently, I'm broke and I can't go anywhere or do anything except sit around and surf the net. It's not at all healthy. Mentally or physically. It's supposed to snow here in Colorado tonight though, so maybe there will be work tomorrow.

I have yet to find a work out routine that doesn't bore me so much by the third month that I simply can't stomach doing it anymore. The last thing I tried was a spin class. By the third month I was so sick and tired of the music they played that I couldn't even walk in the studio anymore. All they played was that "thud... thud... thud" crap and it was starting to drive me out of my damn mind. It sure as hell wasn't getting me pumped up to work out.
How Did You Become Athiest?
webbew1 comments on Nov 27, 2017:
I grew up catholic. The catholics have this thing that they call a search weekend, which basically amounts to a four day long brainwashing session for kids in middle school. It's not "required", but a lot of parents ship their kids off to these things. While you're there, they cover the windows, lock all the doors, and take all clocks and watches away. They tell you that they do it because you're on "god's time", but what it really amounts to is a psychological ploy to confuse your mind. Throughout the four days you are there going through this lunacy, you are literally bombarded almost the whole time with catholic doctrine and massive guilt trips. The only time this is not going on is when they actually allow you to sleep, which is, of course, rare and sporadic. They keep telling you throughout the whole ordeal that what you are going through is not brainwashing because.... get this.... "the Pope approves it". I think that was really the turning point for me. I kept thinking to myself, if it smells like shit, looks like shit and tastes like shit, is it not still shit even if the Pope says it isn't? Needless to say, I walked out of that four day weird fest unbrainwashed and far less of a catholic than I was when I walked in. That's when I learned how to put on a good show, because I was always afraid that if I didn't my parents would send me to another one of those damn things.

Monogamy vs poligamy.
webbew1 comments on Nov 27, 2017:
As a male, I personally have no interest in becoming involved in an LTR with a woman who claims to want to be a virgin on her wedding night. Not that I really want to be with someone who has pulled a train on a whole football team, but if she's had a few lovers in her life before me, it tells me a couple of very important things about her: 1) She enjoys the company of men and likes sex. Nothing would suck more than being tied down to someone who seems to have a headache every freaking night. 2) She's likely sure of her sexual orientation. Chances are very high that she's not gay. It would be very difficult down the line to be with someone who suddenly leaves the relationship because they discover that they prefer same sex partners. Especially if there are children involved.

How do atheist parents raise their kids in a super society?
webbew1 comments on Nov 27, 2017:
Why would you not expose your kids to religion? It's a part of society, and they're going to have to deal with religious people in their work places as well as their personal lives. Failure to expose your kids to religion is a recipe for allowing them to fail when they get out in to the real world. The key is to teach and emphasize critical thinking skills, so when they are exposed to religion and religious people, they are able to ask deeper more probing questions rather than simply taking at face value what ever comes out of some charasmatic religious figures mouth.

Monogamy and evolution
webbew1 comments on Nov 26, 2017:
Monogamy has never been neccessary for propagation of the species. In fact, we'd probably still be swinging from the trees if we had developed as monogomous beings. If you think about it, in the early days of human development there were likely very few bipeds who demonatrated those characteristics which would eventually grow in to higher thinking skills. If they had not frequently shared genetic material, the odds of their survival would have basically been non-existent.

Sexual harassment seems to be dominating the news, but what exactly is sexual harassment?
webbew1 comments on Nov 26, 2017:
Here's my view on this subject: So long as what goes on involves two consenting adults, it's nobody elses business. Let's say for example you're someone who happens to like picking up midget hookers from a go-go bar somewhere in Bangkok. Nobody else's business. Converseley, let's say you're someone who likes to sneak up uninvited on the street behind people who are under five feet tall and slap them in the ass to get your sexual jollies. Then we have an issue.

webbew1 comments on Nov 26, 2017:
There's some really great religious based music out there. It's been rough sledding of late though. Most of that christian rock stuff is just awful.
Do you think there needs to be a creator to explain the universe ?
webbew1 comments on Nov 26, 2017:
St. Thomas Aquinas applied Aristotle's Unmoved Mover Theory as his basis for explaining his beliefs regarding this matter. Put in terms pertaining to a god, only a being which is powerful enough to create itself could have had the ability to create the universe and everything in it. The truth of the matter is, we don't really know the answer to this question, and until we can jump in a time machine and observe and study the exact moment of creation with our very own eyes, all we can do is speculate and try to connect the dots based upon residual information which we presume to be left overs from the big bang.

Actually, I think it's brilliant. The format allows relationships to bloom more naturally, if they're going to happen. There's no personal pressure here to meet someone to date. Just great conversations. If something happens to develop out of that with a person from your area, then all the better.
Free speech
webbew1 comments on Nov 24, 2017:
Here's how the right to free speech works in the United States: Freedom of speech protects your right to say any damn fool thing that comes out of your mouth. It does not protect you from being ridiculed or ostricised for saying it.
Thanksgiving was horrible for me.

Just smile and nod and say all the right things in all the right places. It's what I always did. Religion isn't worth creating a rift in the family over.
How did you tell your family that you don't believe in their religion?
webbew1 comments on Nov 24, 2017:
I didn't. I really didn't deem it to be all that important. And certainly not worth creating a rift within the family over. When I came home from college, I would go to church with my parents and say all the right things in all the right places. After I graduated from college and they came to visit me, I would take them to the local church and play out the same puppet show. Now both of my parents have passed away and I haven't stepped in to a place where organized christian religious services are held for years. I think the last time I stepped into a catholic church was over 10 years ago. The only exception would be the buddhist temples I've visited in SE Asia as a tourist.
The Halo Effect: Do you have a bias towards beautiful people?
webbew1 comments on Nov 24, 2017:
To some extent, yes, but the facade melts away pretty quickly. I can usually tell within five minutes of talking to someone if there's any substance to go with the looks. For example, all I have to do is listen to a Brittney Spears record for two seconds to know that she's a pretty dim bulb. However, listening to the work of someone like Tarja Turenen from Nightwish or Simone Simmons from Epica, it becomes clear very quickly that they are not just physically beautiful women. They are musical geniuses as well.
I hope I'm not being redundant in that I haven't searched to see if this topic has come up before, ...
webbew1 comments on Nov 24, 2017:
I would be more likely to call these things traditions rsther than religions. Religion implies the existence of universal higher power of some sort. While some people can certainly approach these types of activities with a religious like fervor, to call them religion just doesn't fit the definition.
If Jesus came back today, what would you do?

See if he wanted to grab a couple of beers.
So I was woken up today to someone pounding on the front door and the dogs barking.

Should have said, sure you can have a minute of my families time! But you'll have to talk to our dog. The rest of us are kind of busy.
Do you think that science teachers should teach alternatives to evolution in public schools?
webbew1 comments on Nov 24, 2017:
I don't have a problem with it, so long as ALL current viewpoints pertaining to the topic of the development of the universe are covered. Every single one.

DOUGNOSTIC WROTE..... I think that there's a danger in cybernetic humanoids developing intimate relationships with humans, because the continuation of the human species depends on *real* relationships between humans. I posted on this topic on Facebook recently, and an article on Breitbart was pretty relevant:  WEBBEW 1 REPLIED..... Well, the dynamics of procreation and child rearing would certainly change in that type of society. Insemination would be more likely to occur in a lab while child rearing would be far less commonly done by both biological parents. This, of course, assuming that an organic human and an inorganic life form will never be able to procreate together, given the vast differences in make up. As for the Breitbart article, it presumes that only men would be interested in this type of dichotomy, and I don't agree with that. The market for sex toys for women is considerably larger then it is for men. I believe that if most women had the opportunity to have their favorite romance novel character in their bed every night while still being able to have children of their own outside of the traditional means, they'd jump at the chance.

RAITLIN WROTE.... We humans have very good imaginations. We pretend that cats and dogs have levels of emotions that they probably don't. We personify nearly anything that shows any sign of autonomy. Although there will be early adopters, all technology will gradually advance until we are talking with machines, eating with machines, working side by side. We created all of the gods, so what is to stop us from being creators? Self Aware... That is where all the ethics change. We were "made" by our parents but are not owned property, because we are self aware.  WEBBEW1 REPLIED..... That would seem to imply that humans will never have the technology to develop an autonomous creation which is really self aware, but only mimics self-awareness. Given the recent massive leaps in the development of quantum computers, I can't say that I agree with you. After all, our brains are really nothing more than highly complex organic quantum computers. Our first self aware creations are likely to be inorganic. Made from microscopic silicone chips capable of carrying and sharing huge amounts of information back and forth at incredible speeds. Just like our organic brains, only with a different catalyst. As for humans creating other organic, self-aware beings (other than through traditional means), that technology appears to still be far off in the future.
as an atheist what do you prefer living in socialist state or capitalist state ??
webbew1 comments on Nov 24, 2017:
Neither is good at their extremes. I would not wish to live in either a pure socialist state OR a pure capitalist state. A representative republic with a system of checks and balances seems to function best and offers the closest option available to a level playing field for all.
Do you ever get goosebumps when you listen to a good song?
webbew1 comments on Nov 24, 2017:
Absolutely. Steven Wilson's, The Raven That Refused To Sing, Leonard Cohen's, Hallellujia, Tom Waites', Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis, Johnny Cash's version of NIN's, Hurt, Marillion's, Sugar Mice, Dream Theater's, The Spirit Carries On.... Just to name a few.
Have you ever performed in front of a crowd? If so, what did you do?
webbew1 comments on Nov 24, 2017:
Many times. I've sung in amateur and semi-professional choirs as well as acted and sung in community and regional musical theater.

Do looks really matter?
webbew1 comments on Nov 23, 2017:
Men tend to be more visual creatures, so physical attractiveness does play a more important role for them than it does for women. Not that it isn't important for women as well, but it's easier for a man to make up for a few flaws with a good sense of humor and an outgoing personality. That being said, take a good looking guy and an average joe with equal senses of humor and similar outgoing personalities and the good looking guy will go home with the girl every single time.

webbew1 comments on Nov 23, 2017:
I've always thought of homosexuality as one of nature's (or God's?) methods of population control.
There are many people who say that race doesn't matter.

No, I have not. Leave that kind of behavior for those who choose to dwell at the bottom of the human cesspool.
Why do Americans celebrate Thanksgiving when they know full well that after the first 'Thanksgiving'...
webbew1 comments on Nov 23, 2017:
Force of habit. It's the same reason black people continue generation to generation to attend the religious institutions of the people who enslaved them.
Do you agree with the Castle Doctrine?
webbew1 comments on Nov 23, 2017:
If someone enters your home uninvited and it is clear that their intentions ae malevolent, then you most certainly do have the right to protect yourself and your family with deadly force if neccessary. Too bad that in some states this only seems to apply if you are white.
Tired of our government being run by radical Evangelicals.

webbew1 comments on Nov 23, 2017:
Of course, the same could be applied to the theory of evolution, which is why science calls it a theory and not a fact. Until we can jump in a time machine and observe the exact moment of creation with our own eyes, every argument from either side of the fence is mere speculation.
Oh my gosh This is funny as anything!! The Mormon religion explained in cartoon.
