wordywalt comments on Jul 22, 2019:
All that is required for a good moral code are two sets of beliefs. First is the belief that all human as and our environment should be treated with full dignity and respect, and we can judge morality by adherence to or the failure to adhere to that principle. Second, is the belief that we are always responsible for our choices and actions, as in all cases we could have chosen otherwise. Religion has nothing to do with it.

How do you motivate yourself to exercise?
wordywalt comments on Jul 22, 2019:
Health has been my motivator. I began walking several miles a day in 1988 after my diabetes got worse, and continued that on a daily basis. After a heart attack and insertion of a pacemaker, I added weight lifting two to three times a week, adding additional weights and repitio9ns over time. At first, that was hard, but I forced myself to do it. After 13 years , it is habit.

A world without religion?
wordywalt comments on Jul 20, 2019:
There will likely never be a world without some people committed to the total ideology of a religion or (in its place) total commitment to some political ideology. Simply put, there are simply some people who feel so weak, poweeless and lacking in knowledge that they will give up their freedom to think for themselves to have a false csense of certainty, power, and destination. Rrich Fromm describes it well in his ESCAPE FROM FREEDOM.

What Is Patriotism? How Is It Different to Nationalism?
wordywalt comments on Jul 12, 2019:
There is a huge difference between nationalism and patriotism. I consider myself a patriot, but I am NOT an aggressive nationalist, and definitely not a white nationalist. My view of patriotism says that "my country, right or wrong" is a destructive point of view. To me, if you are a patriot, you work to make clear your country's errors and failures so that they can be corrected. Thereby, we make our country better.

Forgiveness is a form of letting go, but they are not the same thing.
wordywalt comments on Jul 6, 2019:
There are degrees of forgiveness. The utmost form of forgiveness is to not hold grudges -- not even against people who have hurt you or betrayed your trust -- and to continue the relati9onship without anger or permanent damage to the relationship. The second form is conditional forgiveness -- forgiving the person if they state their regret over hurting or betraying you, and act in such a manner as to show that they mean it. The utmost form is foolishness. The next level down is continuing the relationship down without attempting to punish the offender, but constantly acting with caution and watchfulness, but not attempting the punish. it is difficult to main such a relationship. The third downward step is not forgiving, but simply trying to expunge the offending person from ones life and mind, without attempting punishment or revenge. Achieving this avoids obsession with the person and the offense(s), and building new relationships to replace the expunged one. The worst level is absolute obsession with the offense and offender and seeking to exact revenge in any and every way possible. This destroys a person. I forgive most offenses and offenders easily. Some, however, leave me with such mistrust that I interact with caution and watchfulness. A few, however, leave me with so many deep wounds deliberately inflicted and never acknowledged , that I simply want nothing to with him or her. My first wife is my primary example. I have simply removed her totally from my life and have gone on to build a new life. I will never forgive her, but I do not wish to punish or hurt her.
