I'm curious how much money changed hands in this transaction, because make no mistake, this was a transaction. Why earn it if you can buy it? Why buy it if you can scam for it? Defining the field is important, eh? How about the field of complicit silence in the face of constitutional high crimes and felony graft and theft? I'd call her outstandingly complicit in that field of endeavor. Oh, and what great empathy for those who design the clothes she puts her label on, but not necessarily for the sweatshops where they are produced.
My sister is getting married in October in a catholic wedding(I know, Blah).
zeuser comments on Jun 23, 2018:
Is it an ethnic Catholic wedding? I'd willingly sneak into an Irish wedding. Italian weddings are a hoot too, not to mention Polish weddings. Don't worry about your feet catching on fire, that's what the holy water is for. Congratulations and good luck to your sister. B-)
I just viewed what was you greatest skill.

Going back to school at 35 to get the credential that landed me the job that became a 28 year career. Quitting the job I had (crappy, but it paid the bills) for an uncertain outcome, and then re-learning how to take notes and do homework, wasn't easy. Hard work can, sometimes at least, pay off.
I had a "First" happen in my life today.

zeuser comments on Jun 22, 2018:
I saw footage yesterday of an interview with one of his brain-washed followers. She was actually crying. "He tries so hard, and all they do is criticize him." Yes, this is a cult. Very dangerous. Voltaire said this, "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." Some things never change.
I may have just ended a 45 year friendship.
zeuser comments on Jun 22, 2018:

zeuser comments on Jun 18, 2018:
I'm still visiting NEPA. Got up to 90, which is real hot for these folks. It's a reasonable 77 right now, as I listen to the phillies game on the radio on the front porch.

zeuser comments on Jun 17, 2018:
What other people assume doesn't bother me at all. When people treat me badly due to their erroneous assumptions, that does aggravate me. How often does that happen? Not much for this particular reason. Mainly because it rarely comes up in ordinary conversation, and if it does, I usually set the record straight in vigorous terms, and then it isn't a problem anymore. ?

Openness with kids
zeuser comments on Jun 15, 2018:

Flirting. If you are single, how far do you go?
zeuser comments on Jun 15, 2018:
I like to flirt. I've never been an overly aggressive flirter. It's always a good idea to tell your female bartender that she looks great, and I favor nuanced and clever double entendres and suggestive wordplay, as long as it's cute and funny, with attractive women. In a relationship, I don't think it's a good idea, and a gentleman shouldn't flirt, at the very least when in the company of your squeeze. I often see other much cruder guys getting away with things I would never stoop to, but everyone has their own path .

How close are you to your Ex?
zeuser comments on Jun 14, 2018:
If you start picking and choosing friends for your lover, that's controlling and ultimately self defeating. If you can't handle it, maybe you should confront your own insecurity and sense of self worth instead of wallowing in pointless jealousy. Just imo.

Or I need one of something and I can only buy a package of 20. Or a 12 dollar glass of wine with a pour that's only half a glass. Those are all great books! You will LOVE Catcher! Any book Cormac McCarthy writes is wonderful, one of the few authors where I have to look up maybe 2 or 3 words each chapter, then go back and re-read. It is very rich and compelling prose by a master wordsmith. Good on you! You'l LOVE talking to your daughter about them too. 8-)

Could all morality really be arbitrary?
zeuser comments on Jun 11, 2018:
That's a lot of hypotheticals. I don't know how you would design an experiment to test the hypotheses, because I don't have that expertise. I've struggled with the issue of objective morality m'self. When you start talking in absolute terms, like "always make that decision" or "full knowledge", I can't come up with anything that would clarify, prove, or disprove that in every case.

The Tipping Point When Minority Views Take Over - The Atlantic
zeuser comments on Jun 10, 2018:
Social media makes this kind of "sentiment manipulation" depressingly easy and formulaic. It explains a LOT about how voter sentiment was targeted and changed last election, where a state by state effort produces outsized results when paired with an archaic electoral college model. This is scary, but at least someone is trying to understand how it works.
Loss of American Jobs?
zeuser comments on Jun 10, 2018:
By making certain items more expensive, prices rise, manufacturers have to cut cost elsewhere, because higher prices are passed on to consumers, and that means less demand. Most businesses sink most of their money into personnel, which is the obvious place to cut to both save money and reduce output. Yeah, American jobs will go away. If stable genius had attended Econ 101 at Penn and paid attention, he would have learned that back then.

zeuser comments on Jun 10, 2018:
But humans are reeeally good at making up stories, and they don't like admitting they don't know. The story answers a lot of questions for non-critical thinkers, and it's easy to remember and embellish. Claiming an unprovable connection to the creator of the universe is a path to power for a lot of humans, and that is hard to turn your back on.
What was your favorite place to go when you were a kid?
zeuser comments on Jun 10, 2018:
In my town, in the heart of anthracite country, the coal mines piled the mine tailings, called culm, into huge mounds by the breakers and surrounding areas. The mines had shut down by the time I was growing up. There were birch tree woods all around, cuz birch trees grow in anything. We'd set up forts in the woods, hang out, climb up the shale and slate piles, get filthy-ass dirty, then dial it up again the next day. One of the two playgrounds in town was right next to where the culm banks were, with a corner store that had popsicles and ice cold coke. Carefree times.

zeuser comments on Jun 9, 2018:
There are two parts, well three really. Supply, distribution, and of course demand. For so many people, the pharmaceutical end of this provides effective pain relief, so it's not a crisis for those guys, it's a really good thing. I don't know why heroin should be blamed on medical professionals and the pharmaceutical corps either. To the extent that pain relief generates revenue for those folks, there is probably an overprescription issue, but someone has to get hooked too, and a lot of times that is not a conscious decision. I voted no.

I've always thought that we make our own luck, but I have come to realize that this sort of simplistic view contains a fair amount of cultural, white privilege. Nonetheless, I believe Mr. Tyson has a valid point here. You do need to actively look for your opportunities. Things rarely just drop into your lap, you don't wait for your ship to come in, you row out and meet it. This is a worthy sentiment, and a good thing to be. And a steady dedication to lifelong learning predicates all of it.
Its sad to live in a part of this country where questioning a belif system is frowned upon so much.
zeuser comments on Jun 7, 2018:
Oh man, you list your age as 18. When I was 18, and that was a looong time ago, I stopped shaving to protest the vietnam war and grew a ponytail. Talk about being shunned by the community, I was openly insulted and called a traitor to my face. This was a couple of years before I figured out that religion was bullshit, and by that time, in my early 20's, I had a LOT more experience dealing with the fuckstick jackwagons with closed minds and a tribal prediliction to distrust and attack the unfamiliar. I suggest that you should persist, find your own way, do NOT give up your values or your voice, and grow stronger. And Kansas? Look for an escape hatch, but don't expect that a physical move will solve these problems, they are yours to confront wherever you find them, and they will find you, trust me. Stay strong, good luck, and I hope this helps just a little.
